Amusing how this was openly admitted at first, then the government changed it's story; Thus permanently imprinting a black mark on their otherwise "clean" reputation. And funnily enough there was actually another UFO crash much, much earlier in US history. It happened back in 1897 (had nothing to do with Dracula, lol). A UFO crashed in the small town of Aurora, Texas. The local population was not fearful of this but very interested and intrigued. A far cry of today's societal behaviors. Anyways they found the wreckage and a body that was somewhat mangled due to the crash. They gave this humanoid funeral rites and buried 'it' beside a tree. The humanoid's grave marker was a large piece of stone with the engraving of a UFO on it. Fast-forward to now when the team from MUFON wanted to check it out. They were denied since it was on church land. So they got the permission a day later and went back to exhume the grave. The grave marker and body were already gone. Big surprise there.

That's pretty neat. My guess is Roswell was just the crash of some experimental aircraft, who knows what they were experimenting with and didn't want the Russians to find out about back then.

Well Roswell was only two years after WWII so I doubt that America was seeing Russia as much a threat at the time. It wouldn't be till the launch of Sputnik that the cold war really started to heat up. I definitely feel however that there was an actual UFO craft that impacted in Roswell considering the eyewitness accounts and some of the relics recovered from the debris (like the infamous memory metal the you can crumple up like tinfoil and it would revert back as if untouched).
