Choose your weapon, but choose wisely.

I'd choose the Hunter's Whip, despite it being a hindrance early on with a lack of power.
The powers it unlocks as it is used and you progress through the adventure make it adaptable to almost any situation.

Make your choice.

The OG VK of course. If you're good all you need to compensate for its lack of adaptability are subweapons.
It is precisely because it never cared, that people do care.  It's something which it's lacking, because that which it has, it has lackluster of.

The Vampirekiller. I essentially view CotM's hunter whip as the vampierkiller from an alternate universe sequel game and that Nathan graves is the grandson of Richter. So in this case I vote the Vampirekiller over the combat cross. The combat cross looks awesome, but it is weak as hell (not just because of the sponge enemies).

I feel the Vampire Killer can't be rivaled.

In terms of combat, it can hurt pretty much any foe for huge damage, can block projecticles and can evolve to become even stronger and longer.

In terms of adaptability it can cling to things to allow for swinging, even unclingable surfaces if we consider Bloodlines and take the gameplay mechanic at face value. It can be used to light dark places if we consider it can produce fire (Rondo), or lightning (Bloodlines). Though if these are qualities of the wielder channeled through the whip or from the whip itself is debatable. But I assume these are qualities from the whip, seeing as it is made from alchemy and can supposedly change forms due to this. Furthermore, in Portrait, Jonathan can use the "Critical Art" which specifies that it unlocks the weapon's hidden power - and the Vampire Killer's is producing fire.

Sure, the Hunter Whip is powerful, but I ask you: What did you see the Hunter Whip do that it was something it could do by itself? Extend? Burn? Nope. These are the powers of the cards. The Hunter Whip alone is long and can block projecticles, but that's it. Without the cards, the Hunter Whip is reduced to nothing more than a standard whip. The Vampire Killer does what the Hunter Whip can only dream of doing and more.

The Combat Cross is a LOT more versatile, but I really don't feel like whipping skeletons one billion times to destroy them. The VK has these bases covered.

I view the DSS cards as just a gameplay element-- they represent the powers that a given wielder has available to them acquired through mastery of the weapon. There's nothing to suggest that they actually exist as physical objects in-game (nothing in the way of dialog, for instance).

And no one can deny that once the full power of the Hunter Whip is unlocked, it can pretty much destroy EVERYTHING with very little effort.

Damage sponge or not, everything falls in short order to the full power of the Hunter Whip. You don't NEED subweapons as this thing grows in power.

It was tempting to go with the classic vampire killer, but I was recalling images of either leather material or chain-linked with a spiked ball at the end. I'd rather fight the beasties with something more wicked like the combat cross. (Lords of Shadow though, <shudder>)

It also depends, are we slaying monsters or our own personal desires?
I don't recommend the CX for personal use ;/

Hunter whip definitely, it can do so much more than the Vampire Killer such as become many types of swords,a hammer, a Katana, even a freaken gun.

I'd give the base power to the vampire killer though, the Hunter whip without its powerup through cards pales in comparison, but with the cards? The Hunter whip pwns.

I don't know jack about the Hunter's Whip.  I was a 14 year old when I first was introduced to the original Vampire Killer whip.

When I was just 14 I beat CV with such ease. I used a very good whip killing deadly foes such as these. Bats, ghouls, knights and owls up in trees. You could even whip from your knees and beat Dracula with such ease. :'( :'( :'(

I was so young. sigh

Of course now I would have to go with the new Vampire Killer on the Combat Cross as there is more functionality.

Still I will never forget the classic.

Remember my name and know this. I have Suffolk Down Syndrome.

Stop me if you've heard this one.
A Belmont falls through a trap door into a square prison with no exits. After hitting three sides he smashes through the last one. Relieved and low on health he looks at the camera, smiles and says......"Pork chop?"

Id Choose the all Power Vampire Killer the Sorcery Whip. I do feel that some parts of its story that do bother me, but to me I just think of the story I gave it, that always does the trick.

It's a great weapon The best ever made, there is non more powerful, and it can adapt too, it can be swung on or used as a shield, by spinning it, or  can shoot fire balls, and it can be  transformed from leather to chain growing in power and hight, and by attaching things to it can be transformed even more. so id say the Vampire Killer is beyond  any weapon in AD and any real hunter can make it work for him by becoming one with it, And using it Unmatched power.

The Hunter whip is like its weaker Brother, a great weapon but no  Vampire Killer. Combat cross is great but lacks any real power so... yeah.
the Vampire Killer is the winner here.

also there is the undead killer and Langs holy whip, But they never get a mention.

I can't remember were I saw it but was the vampire killer going to be a sword at first, but they couldn't make it look good so they went for a whip instead.
