I think the major difference from the Nov contest with this one is that the entries for Nov were submitted early while the Dec entries were submitted on the last possible moment.

Anyway, I have a suggestion for the January contest onward, why not we decide the winners by poll instead of having a tribunal? People are still free to comment on the sprites on the poll thread. And the winners get to be notified in time.

No more judges. Just a plain old poll where everyone can give votes.

That could be interesting. But what if the polls are open during a period where there isn't much forum activity, and only two or three votes get cast? The variable nature of an open vote can backfire by its very nature. Having a judging panel might be a bit of a scheduling pain, but at least it's a guaranteed number of votes.

The poll voting will be first tested on the December music contest. If it works then I'll request an implementation of such method for the January sprite contest since there are already judges for the December sprite contest.
