I noticed that the front page of the Dungeon has been updated for the first time in almost ten years. I listened to the recent episode of Retronauts in which Kurt mentioned updating the site as they discussed the topic of the episode, ranking the 2D Castlevanias:

I'm glad Kurt finally was clear on why he wasn't really updating the site at all.
As I've gotten older, I've found myself missing certain aspects of the Olde Internet. Fan sites like this one were prolific back when I began The Castlevania Dungeon back in 1997 - heck, it's not even the only large Castlevania site still around - but nowadays they're a bygone relic, replaced by wikis that are able to remain more current and comprehensive, despite being navigational nightmares and lacking editorial oversight. So, I'd rather keep the site as it was back in 2010, as a sort of museum to what things were like ten years ago, even if much of the writing is dated, silly, or downright embarrassing. Remember, I started this when I was fifteen years old, and I'm now forty - there's a reason so much of it had to be redone for the HG101 book!
Like, I know a lot of folks could have maybe guessed at that, but at the same time, it's nice to hear it officially.
I also share his misgivings about the proliferation of wikis (particularly now that they're basically all owned by the Fandom company) and how they've essentially removed control of the actual fandom from the actual FANS. Like, I don't mind the wikis and they ARE quick and convenient, but I really miss the more personal touch and less "official" style of writing that fansites like the Dungeon and the old Chapel of Resonance brought to the table, and I keep hoping that folks will collectively realize they miss it too and start trying to bring that all back.
After all, I still REALLY miss the old 1.0 Internet where everything seemed possible and it still belonged to all of us. (https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/index.php?topic=8920.msg195813#msg195813)

He started this site when he was *15*? Man, I never knew that, though I should have figured. Kurt oughta be proud, it's an astonishing accomplishment for something begun when he was so young to have lasted for so long. Things may be quiet these days, but the CVD community at least is still around.

Yeah, I remember hitting the site when I was in my mom's basement. I'm about the same age as the dude so that tracks -- I was reading it as he put it up apparently, hahaha.

Dude the nostalgia was getting me. I never realized they had an archive of how the page use to look like. Ah yes remember web rings… 8)

Awesome update. Thank you so much Kurt <3
I actually laughed out loud from the nostalgia of the early design with the glorious red text and blood dripping titles. I haven't seen this view since I was probably 14 years old. I loved checking the site out after school and reading up on all the SotN Weirdness & references. I also finally found the fan fiction I was looking for after returning all these years. For some reason it just stuck with me and I always wanted to read it again. It was "Rondo" by Sung.
Thank you for preserving history. Now everyone can recall the most important question of the day...

Kurt's still alive?
Well damn!
