Well, I'm terribly depressed. Last night, I was playing Dawn of Sorrow, after having not played in a few weeks, and I was in Julius mode. I had just killed Death and Abbadon, and I headed into the final battle. However, I ran into an unexpected surprise. As I entered the room, expecting to fight the same final boss as in normal and hard mode, I found myself in a large fancy room with a throne on the end. Who sat in the throne? None other than Soma Cruz. After a long and annoying battle against him, I was victorious. I had just killed Soma! Soma was awesome! Possibly my favorite Castlevania character of all time! It's awful.
-
Jeez..your reaction to that is worst then a kid finding out that Santa Claus isn't real.
But look on the bright side..Julius mode is not necessarily canon to the CV timeline.
-
Aria of sorrow's bad ending is actually the best ending that could happen to castlevania.

That should have been the games true story. Julius Belmont must destroy Dracula in his new appearance: an angsty Japanese teenager!!

I agree :)

Glad to have your support.

I also agree.
And perhaps Soma will start the regeneration cycle just like Drac did...
and eventually change his name to Dracula..
:P

And since it's in the future, they could use light sabers against him too!

No. Hector already did that. Been there done that.
Okay... but the sight of Soma's head being cauterized off with a light saber IS tempting...

I think you mean Isaac. Oh dear... Castlevania... with lightsabers.
Oh wait, Star Wars happened a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.
-
or as family guy described it, a long time ago, but somehow in the future...
-
In Reply To #14
Ah yes, that was a very good special, yes very good indeed.
-
I was hoping Dawn would end with Soma going nuts and either killing everyone or being killed by Alucard. The lame regular ending was disappointing, but at least it happened in an alternate reality.
-
In Reply To #16
Basically the "bad ending"?
-
In Reply To #1
Don't feel bad, Gimph, I loved Soma too. ;_;
-
Well, at least the good news is that that ending really had nothing to do with the game's ACTUAL storyline and was just an extra feature! Still, it made me very sad to see him die. His 2nd form was very fun!
-
I like Soma too. He's one of the coolest CV-characters in my opinion.
@all who hated the good ending: Yeah it was really crappy. They all went outside and the castle collapsed... wait. Somehow this sounds familiar. :o
-
and then they were all lol happy end, soma loves mina, hammer behaves like 12 year old etc. :o
-
I love how Soma's evil portrait looks.
-
Yeah, Soma is awesome. However, Alucard and Juste Belmont are both right behind him on my favorites list! Castlevania has some great characters, which is why I'm against Serio's hanging thing, especially with Juste.
-
Fuck lightsabers! Fuck Family Guy! Fuck the Sorrow games! Fuck Hector! Fuck Isaac! And fuck everybody now that I think of it.
Don't mind me here. - I happen to agree with you guys. Just sometimes need to vent my vexations with a little fucking now and then. And this always seems like a good place for that, you know?
-

I know that too good.

i didn't hang juste though. just the failures from portrait and oos. the hod people were hanged by antraxx himself.
-
I would've hung Soma for the sheer agony his dialogue put my eyes through alone. As for Juste, well his only realm crimes were sorry animation and the most uninspired design of any CV character to date. But it's hardly his fault. The creative team deseres to hang for that one.
...Speaking of creative team, shouldn't IGA have at least gotten the rack for CoD?

Juiced had funky clothing, atleast he meant business ._.

You can't hang Juste! That's an outrage! Just because of some cruddy character designing?! LET HIM FREE! >:(

Yes. Maxim as well.

Umm... I didn't hang Maxim. His sprite deserves it, though.
-
In Reply To #34
I would have hung Maxim, but... Well, I tried, but then I got tired. :/
I hate that ninja-beachboy with his supersexy chicken breast. Also his weapon looks weird. Well, at least he can screw attack across gaps. Or just screw attack on the ground. And stuff. Btw; you complain about Justes clothing? Then what about Maxim?
-
In Reply To #35
I never complained about Juste's clothing, just his in-game art/sprites and boring personality and dialogue.
Maxim didn't fair much better with persona, and his sexually ambiguous costume is a little scary. But he was pretty fun to play as a secondary character goes, with all the moves he has.
Too bad he's just another over-powered side character that makes little sense for being there.
-
juste is practically the shame of the belmont legacy. belmonts don't need no stinking level ups, that's part of their great power. even leon doesn't level up.
-
Juste? JUSTE?! How the hell is he the worst?? Have you forgotten Sonia, nad Christopher??
-
Gosh. The levelling is only relevant for the gameplay. What has this to do with the character?
Also: Why does Juste have grey hair? That always scared me a little... Maybe sum Belmont chick got involved with Alu- ...nevermind.
-
Juste? JUSTE?! How the hell is he the worst?? Have you forgotten Sonia, nad Christopher??
Hey, Christopher is manly enough to make it through snake pits, falling cielings and constant rope climbimg. That takes brute strength, you know.
And Sonia....was...
was kewt :3
-

Sonia. X___________________X
I like Juste well enough.
-
who is sonia? ;D
j/k
juste had grey hair, but so what. soma has grey hair, but he's not centuries old like drac. hector also has grey hair, is he alucard's son too? :o
alucard's blonde not grey btw.
-
In Reply To #42
I always figured these guyz suffered from stress-inducing sorrow, and so greyed early.
In Soma's case, it's cuz it's the hip look in his time. But he only got it half right: powdered wigs are back in style, (as is rampant lice).
-
In Reply To #42
Lol. XD No, but Alucard's sprite had gray/silver hair, if I'm not mistaken. >.< I always liked Alucard's blonde though.
I'm perfectly fine with gray (I prefer to call it silver) hair. XD
-
In Reply To #44
He's a platinum blonde; you can see streaks of it in his pic on the back of the official OST:
(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwiimedia.ign.com%2Fwii%2Fimage%2Farticle%2F756%2F756624%2Fcastlevania-the-retrospective-20070118051956915.jpg&hash=75cc5afaf4706b72ed2fdd8833af78c0847a9128)
While still hard to tell, if you compare to Drac's hair, you get the idea.
-
Out of curiosity, was the guy from OoS a bad character in his own right, or was he just unfortunate enough to be in that crappy game? :o
-
In Reply To #46
probably the second part, combined with the "lol imma elf" design.
-
Maybe it indeed is the stress thing. Sounds cool. I bet Soma's travel to Japan was very stressing. It's all like stop and go, y'know? Sometimes you have to wait for hours, sometimes you really have to hurry to catch your bus/train/plane/whatever. That can really turn one's hair grey.
-
In Reply To #48
Especially if you're emo.
-
In Reply To #49
You got it all wrong. Emos have to be all black and red/pink. Somas style wouldn't really fit at all.
-
In Reply To #50
No, mostly black and gray. A few emo girls I guess throw in the pink/red, but it's mostly black. Also, I don't think looks alone justify emo. Wrist-slicing, depression, lonliness, hatred towards humanity, etc., stuff like that.
-
Which is somewhat ironic considering "Depressed" is the name of this topic! ;D
-
Talking about Emo makes Erimocard a sad panda. :'(
-
Such a good point, Gimph.
Well, it doesn't make me sad, Erimocard, just happy that you're sad. :) Sadism rules...

Yep. Platinum blonde is so wonderful to look at, at least in the art imo. <3 [Yes, Alucard is still my favorite character, if only because he's the first one I played. ;D]
I still argue that the hair in his sprite looks silver.

Definitely from Europe.

and he was hired by a poltergeist king to revive the ancient belmont warrior chromosomes guarded by an evil goblin called graveyard duck.

soma was pure japanese, it's been proven + that's the case in the original japanese story.

First of all, dispite what the english version of AoS says, Soma is Japanese. I don't know why he is called an exchange student. Especially, because he and Mina are "childhood friends". I heard that in the Japanese version of AoS, there is no mention of him being an exchange student. In that version he is just a Japanese high school student.
Anyway, back on topic, the ending in Julius mode in DoS is just an alternate ending. From what I know, the real ending is the good one in which Soma destroys Menace (spelling?). What's truly depressing is that if there is another sorrow game made, I predict that either Soma or Alucard will die. I've always interpreted the prophecy from AoS in a way that either Soma or Alucard are the ones referred to. Think about it. The prophecy never said that the knew master would take power immediately. It only said that a new master would come to the castle and both Soma and Alucard were there. Also, those two are the only ones who have a legitimate right to the throne. Soma is Dracula's reincarnation and Alucard is Dracula's son. My prediction is that for one reason or another those two will end up fighting each other and only one will survive. The surviver will probably end up losing his humanity and become the new dark lord. Then again, this is only a theory.
-
I don't think IGA will kill off Alucard. He's been living for centuries, a little Japanese kid with soul power won't be able to take out Ol' Adrian.
Maybe when Soma dies of old age, disembowlment, etc. his soul (well, Dracula's soul) will enter a new body. That's the way I see it, anyway.
-
In Reply To #78
No way, you're right. Alucard CAN'T die. If there is a final sorrow game, it should feature Alucard as the main character, and he should kick the crap out of Soma.
-
Alucard's freakin' old. Why the hell isn't he aging yet by the time of the Sorrow games?
He looks younger than he did in SOTN!
-
In Reply To #80
Plastic surgeons can work miracles.
-
Maybe he got himself some blood. In most tales vampires/dhampires rejuvenate by drinking blood. But I don't think anything about the whole blood drinking thing is ever mentioned in CV. Was just an idea though.
-
And i have another question!! How is he able to transform into a whole different person? I mean he's wandering with other people as Jenya Aricado, a totally different person from the original Alucard. Alucard has blond hairs and Jenya balck hairs. I never heard of vampires that they can change their shape and appearance. Anyone else has ever wonder this one?
-

Maybe the old gent's been hanging out with Vampire Hunter D (who by all accounts has been alive a long long time). That is, if he was any inspiration for Alucard/Adrien Tepes to begin with.
I'd always felt the Julius mode ending was most appropriate. But enough talk.
-
In Reply To #84
I doubt that IGA has thought something like this one!!
-
I always thought Alucard just dyed his hair black, so as not to be too obvious. Unless dhampirs have some sort of dye-repelling agent in their hair, it's perfectly plausible. Also, I am in favor of Soma dying, not Alucard. Alucard is too good to die. :P
-
In Reply To #86
I always thought he pulled off a magical illusion similar to the Zelda/Sheik thing from Ocarina of Time.
-
Agreed. Also, if he can shoot fireballs, if he can even change into bat/wolf/mist, then why not into a different person? Who knows what magic he possesses?
-
I guess that's possible. :P It's either
a) He can change his appearance at will (or his hair, at least)
b) Simple, he dyed it.
Either way, have you seen Alu-.. Genya? He's lovable. :P
-
In Reply To #87
I also thought that's what it wa. But have you ever looked at a picture of Arikado next to Alucard? The only different is the hair and clothes. Otherwise they look exactly the same, and that's not just Kojima's style playing tricks on your eyes It's possible, while unlikely that he cut his hair and dyed it then got some new clothes. The only thing that makes this a bit unlikely is how he was able to change from Arikado to Alucard in DoS so easily, then right back to Arikado for the conclusion. Then again, that Julius mode isn't even canon.
-
Yeah I just figured the fashion police finally got to him, and he grew annoyed and gave in.
Gots to look good for daddy :P
-
Alucard looks awesome, but the way he moves during gameplay kinda bothers me.

Probably the same way Dracula looks different in every game.
Also, Francis Ford Coppola's adaption of Dracula had Drac going from aged old guy to sleek ladies man, so...not a new concept.
-
I've heard of a vampire that can change their shape and appearance: Dracula from Castlevania 64, with the whole Malus/Dracula thing. Considering Alucard is Dracula's son, wouldn't it make sense for him to inherit some of his father's powers?
-
malus is just his kid form while the actual young drac his adult form/adult malus. it's more of age manipulation in his case.
-
True, but you never know. Alucard may have inherited this and it just changed, like an adaptation or something.
Otherwise, maybe Yoko uses her magic to forge Alucard a disguise. After all, she knew who he was in Aria of Sorrow, when she met Soma and asked if he had met "Aluc-I mean, Genya. Arikado, right?" Plus, in Dawn of Sorrow, she could've easily changed him back as soon as they left the castle considering she was with him. That's probably more likely.
-
look all i'm saying, Gimph, is i'm sorry for your state, you poor underprivledged lad, but please go outside!

That would be Soma or Jonathan, but in these cases, it didn't work well. They both look like they're fake-walking in slo-mo.
Maybe they are silly. I will give them the benefit of the doubt.
-
soma pretends to be an animu character, even making his coat tail float in the wind by throwing it back with his hand. jonatham runs like yoko. like a girl.
-
Yeah, but Soma can get away with acting like an anime character in Aria of Sorrow, just because he's cool like that. However, in Dawn of Sorrow, he IS an anime character, so he shouldn't act like that anymore. It just makes him look stupid.
-
I dunno... Soma's not so cool...
:-\
-
To me, Soma is a perfectly okay protagonist in AoS. .. I haven't played DoS, but I must say he looks terrible.
-
Castlevania Aria of Sorrow was awesome, exactly the kind of game I could play over and over again! Dawn of Sorrow was okay, but the only thing I really enjoyed was using Alucard in Julius mode! It's on the same level as Por. Both terrible in my opinion!
