They forgot to mention the other 3D installments of the series: CV64/LoD (being the first attempt), LoI, and finally, CoD. If this guy wants to get the IP license so he can make his dream game then he needs to separate himself from the GoW mindset that he's been doing. And I hope he steers well clear of the LoS games influence as well. To me those weren't Castlevania. They were GoW with SotC segments and sponge enemies that took too long to kill off. No thanks.

Well, he took the GoW series to a whole new step from the old trilogy, so i want to believe that, since his favorite Castlevania game was Simon's Quest, he could take the 3d games in a way, like Iga did with the 2d games, when he got to make SoN.

I loved the GoW formula reboot, but I'll be fine without another sad dad simulator.

Long as one can’t spam ‘Plume of Prometheus’ to ensure victory… ???? ⛓

If the man does get his wish to make his own CV game then I hope he's carefully monitored by Konami, by people who know what CV is, and are long time fans like us. In that way he won't be tempted to do his own thing with the IP like Cox and MercurySteam did.
-
MercurySteam was monitored by Nintendo when was making Samus Return and Metroid Dread and yet they still managed to do their own thing, which is sad.
On the other hand if the only changes are on game play and not aesthetic, i believe that they will do a very decent job.

Dread in an awesome game, as a longtime Metroid fan who acknowledges that specific elements of it may not be for everyone. (As per Samus Returns, but truthfully, Dread is a much better game)
The reality is that a new Castlevania by a third party dev would be drastically different and if that dev was GoW’s, guaranteed the game would be similar to LoS, being more/ primarily focused on combat and graphics, as GoW tend to be blockbuster AAA titles.

As gameplay Dread is a fine game, my only gripe is that you have to play with the analogue stick and games of this genre are not favorite with that. As for the story it's nice but not something mind blowing, but the biggest flaw is the music. It's almost non existend, the only track that is a little worthy is the one that plays on the water level.
All previous metroid games had awesome music and tunes than i can still play on my mind.

The funny thing is when Ms released the LoS games, nobody complained about how mediocre the music was and how it paled in comparison to the original CV.
Dread’s music wasn’t memorable, it wasn’t inherently bad. It was ballsy to compose everything from scratch and the most iconic musical theme (Lower Norfair from Super Metroid) was thrown in when Samus exchanges words with the Chozo Elder… Samus returns got flack for reusing the Lower Norfair theme and recycling others, so it’s likely they didn’t want a repeat.

Personally I wouldn't care. I'd rather want Castlevania to stay remain in the slumber for all eternity.
It seems Castlevania as an IP, only fits the golden time it originally belongs to.
-
Personally i believe that if Konami gave it to the right hands, the franchise could be revived. One capable studio is Inti Creates.

“…. But if we can resurrect it, then the battle for a decent Castlevania game will last for eternity!!” ;D
