WHAT? WHAT? WHAT? WHAT? WHAT???
*inhales......*
AAAAHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*Goes insane like a teenage girl at a concert*
Wow..Megaman 9... O_O Awesomeness..
-
Yeah, the original Mega Man series is where it's at.
-
This isn't really confirmation.. need more info.
*waits till E3*
-
oh FUCK YEAH!, finally another REAL Rockman!!!! ;D ;D
-
This seems to be very good news.
I still remember HATING those damn skiing sections in Megaman 8.
Ah..back in 1998.

"JUMP JUMP!"
All I know is, I hope this is the game that ties the series to Megaman X. I want to see X being constructed, Wily go into hiding, Zero going berserk, etc.

Now that you bring this up, that WOULD be cool! But it would be even more poignant if they saved that for Mega Man 10 ;D

Oooo...I always found it interesting that the name of the series after it is Megaman "X"..I mean..because X is roman numeral 10, of course..
I know that isn't why it is titled that, but its still interesting to think about..
Also..I hope, that if this game is in fact true, it is still 2d. Even if it is cel shaded or 3d graphics, we all know that a 2d Megaman series going to 3d is a bad idea...
(Megaman X7 anyone?)
But yeah..I hope this game becomes a reality.

Don't forget Mega Man Legends XD
While kinda interesting and even fun, it played nothing like Mega Man at all.
-
In Reply To #10
Well that wasn't originally 2d though. It was an entirely new series on it's own! ;D
-
It's awesome they they're doing this, but with almost every Megaman game sucking for the past 5+ years, I wou;dn't be surprised if this did too

X6-8 I can understand anyone not liking...
but the Zero series was definately great..and although the story + characters of the ZX series aren't anything amazing, the gameplay is still solid.
Megaman is best when it is 2d and traditional, and as long as it stays on the original timeline. (Unlike the Battle Network series)

Megaman Powered Up and Maverick Hunter X were both very well done. Especially the stage designer feature in the former. As a matter of fact... I was working on a Castlevania theme stage about 9 months ago... I never did finish it...

ROCKMAN!! HELL YES!!!

I just hope it will be as epic as Rockman II was on the NES. Good times :D
I am hoping for a Wii/PSP or DS port.

Way to copy me. :P
and this game better be on PS3 or 360...I wanna see Megaman in high res damnit.
-
Also..I hope, that if this game is in fact true, it is still 2d. .
Well word on the street is that the game might be 8-bit. however, I've heard its up for digital distribution a'la XBL and PSN. I'm sure the 8 bit news is on some news site...try hitting up kotaku...i think i read it there.
Also...lets not speak of MMX7....such a waste of money on my part.
-

I don't know about that. People already mentioned Megaman Powered Up and Maverick Hunter X, as well as the Zero titles, but I'm going to go ahead and add the MegaManZX series in there, because it's Freaking Sweet!
I'm excited for this title. If it makes it to WiiWare I'll be very happy. Any downloadable medium if it in fact ends up 8-bit. I know Capcom Downmixed their "MegaMan Collection" so that while it looks and plays exactly like its NES counterpart, there's an underlying difference in the Pause Menu and other things (I guess they kept their source code, lolz).
-
Oh hell yes it was. Awesome level designer and awesome remake.
Hmm... I wonder how you went about this when all the sets were much too cute to do this.
Capcom released 4 stage themes strictly by internet. 2 of these can be reasonably adopted for castlevania stages. The Halloween stage pack and the Ghosts and Ghouls stage pack.
A few fans simply recreated stages from the original Castlevania, but I was trying to make a more abmitious Castleroid design. Where Megaman starts out the stage stripped of all his powers including his megasuit (essentially he gets downgraded to become Rock). By exploring the Castle, he can reclaim his megasuit, slide, powershot and boss weaponsob to clear the obstacles throughout...
Strictly speaking the stage design rules wouldn't allow such a concept (multiple bosses, upgrading rock, etc..) but I figured out a way around that by breaking the stage down to multiple sections. The complete "master" stage only exists on paper, but each each section would appear as a self contained "stage" on Capcom's network.
For example... When a player downloads the first "stage" of my Castleroid...
Rock enters the castle and begins fighting his way toward a partyball boss. Along the way the player notices obstacles that can't possibly be cleared without boss weapons (that Rock can't use without his Megasuit). So a player that doesn't know that my "stage" is part of a larger design thinks.. WTF?
But what if that partyball boss actually held the megasuit inside --like a piniata? So when you kick it open it looks like you clear the stage --but what if that boss chamber actually represented a "save point" --and thus a starting point for the next "stage". And this time the player starts with the Megasuit...
Again I never finished my Castleroid design, as it proved very very difficult to implement all these ideas... If I can get some time off before the OoE arrives maybe I'll take another shot at it....
BTW --I actually DID finish another stage that I'm very proud of(spent 6 months on it) Seeing as how this is a thread for megafans I can post the download info for anyone that has Megaman Powered Up.

Wow I didn't know at all about the extra stage sets. :o

If the rumors are true and the game is 8-bit, I hope they go the full mile and have that quasi-shitty box art American Mega Man games used to have. Not to mention an old fashioned title screen complete with roman numeral IX.

Yeah 2 is still the best one overall and had the most impact. The whole feel was great and I loved the revenge aspect of it. The game itself and the overall music also felt more mature. My personal fav. is always gonna be 3 though cuz I love Snakeman, his level and theme kicks uber ass. I hope they do this right and keep it crazy hard but fun at the same time. Some of the insanely superhuman hard parts in x6-8 just weren't fun, at all and were more like torture.
-
I don't think I could pick between 2 or 3. Both cancel eachother out with amazing level and boss design, music and gameplay.
They are the pinnacle of Megaman; it would never get as good as this again.

I'm just curious, do you guys (you guys meaning anyone who this applies to) just like the old Megaman games including part 2 simply because they are retro, and you remember growing up with them? I mean..its not as if Megaman X1-3 or the Zero series are actually worse then part 2 or 3.
Just wondering what your say on that is.

oooh x2 and 3, man what wastes of money. And they're still going for 50-80 bucks for the cart online. X2 was way to easy bored me to death and the plot was not so good. X3 was better than 2 but the stages could have been more varied and the powers were just okay they weren't anything spectacular. X1 is still my fav. Primarily because of the kickass soundtrack and opening level it was so epic and I love how it has a depressing feel to it as sigma is killing everything around X until it finally comes down to the final battle between titans, and what a battle it was, sigma was like fighting a god in that one. X4 captured some of that epic feel as well. I love all the megaman/rockman serie except battle network cuz that' not really rockman just an attempt by capcom to make more money.

Best news ever.

Rankings? OK then.. Let's see...
Megaman Powered Up > Megaman 3 > the rest of Megaman Classic
Maverick Hunter X > Megaman X3 > the rest of the X series.
Classic/X > greater than Battle Network/MM Zero
I haven't really given the newer DS Megamans a chance at all yet, so we'll forget about them for now...
IMO Megaman Powered Up > All the rest. Even with all the cutesy design, none can match the options presented by this game. 3 playable versions of Megaman, 8 Playable Bosses, Playable Rock, Roll, and Protoman. Classic and remixed versions of MM1. A "chuck the PSP across the room" challenge mode --AND a stage creator program with downloadable fan stages now numbering in the thousands... (you can easily fill your memory card with the good ones)
BTW. http://www.plutolighthouse.net/MMPU/index.php?page=ViewStage&stageID=51597277-001
Anyway --If MM9 even comes close to Powered Up's production values, we'll have plenty to celebrate.
-
My take on this is simple:
The Rockman Classic (Rockman 1-7) were great, I don't have any idea why X and Zero had to be created. Not to mention, ZX and the royal crap that Battle Network is. I'm still wondering what happened to Rock and Roll too... I want my platforming, damn it, the Rock Paper Scissors battle model, I wanna be creamed by stage bosses, I want Yuuichi-chan's Papa quality music. On my opinion, Rockman 2 was pinnacle. Rockman 3 was also great but not as good as 2, it didn't feel right. The Robot Masters just started to become stupid after that.
-

I agree: Mega Man Powered up is one of the best things to happen to the series and old-school-porting-to-new-eras in general.
If you're at all a Mega Man fan, you HAVE to play this. The lasting value is just incredible.
It sucks SOOOOOOOO much that it didn't sell better.
-
It is truly great to see the return of Megaman. :)

The extra story of MHX did not help. The anime cutscene, while cool to see X in anime, was lousy.
So far for me, its X1-6 and Z1-4, though I never beat Z3 and 4.
-
I hope they do that thing where you fight someone else the whole game, then it turns out Dr Wily's in control of them, or it's just Dr Wily.
-
"- A popular belief is that RM9 will act as the 'link' to the events of the X Series. This is not so, The storyline DOES NOT lead into the X Series, rather it's a 'traditional' plot."
I have lost ALL interest.
-
Eh. I never play Megaman for the story anyway. I play it to blow up eight vaguely elemental based robots, and then four or so more bosses including Dr. Wily.
Apparently, that Shadow dude was just making things up. The only true confirmation is that Megaman 9 is indeed being made.

why? it's still gonna be rockman. I think what they are probably gonna do is make a game separate from both serie to explain the events and call it X's creation or something. They'd probably set it way after RM9 if it comes out soon to give them room for more titles if this is the case.
-
Megaman 9? Isn't that just Rockman and Forte? Im pretty sure it is. If thats the case, that was already released as a GBA port. Although I wouldn't mind it getting re-done.
-

Megaman and Bass is not Megaman 9...fans simply call it that.
-
I believe Dr. Wily made Zero after he made Forte and Gospel. Also, in the X games, if I recall correctly, nothing is mentioned about them. So, something must have happened (maybe Zero destroyed them?).
It'd be nice though if Rockman 9 gave way to the events of Rockman X. E3 is almost .5months away. We shall see soon.

Yeah thats what the majority of the current fans (including myself) speculate. Bass's ending in Megaman 2 the arcade game is the only real connection to the X series. :\

There is also some speculation that Bass stole the technical schematics for X when he raided Dr. Light's Lab in Megaman 7. His objective at the time was to steal the schematics for the Rush Adaptor (which was later used for himself and Trebble).
And according to theory, Wily used these specs to assist him in creating Zero. This also explains away the technical similarities between X and Zero even though Zero wasn't a true reploid --he was discovered independently as depicted in X4. It's also worth noting that Megaman 7 was released after X2 --where Zero's connection to Wily was first made.

*rubs chin*
Theres a lotttttttt of theories out there, and although most of them are based on educated guesses, I'd say they're pretty good ones.
I agree with the theory that Dr.Wily kept his "Soul" alive through machines. Which explains his presence in Megaman X5 as well as him (possibly) being Isoc in Megaman X6. I mean..Zero was in a room alone with Isoc's corpse when he heard a voice say that "You are the strongest robot".
And I mean Hell, nobody uses the term "robot" in the X series, so I find that too coincidental. I really hope they explain all this one day. I wouldn't even care if it was in an anime or a graphic novel. I just want it explained by Capcom.

This still looks awesome, though. Day 1 purchase. Plug Man FTW.
-
This is a sure buy....on one condition. It's scares me a bit that the director equates it to a new NES game. This game better have no flicker and sprite respawning. Thinking realistically, this should not happen.
-

It won't have that.
I don't know if you know, but the "MegaMan Anniversary Collection" only masquerades as a NES compilation. In reality it's built from the ground up and only resembles the NES games in appearance. You can tell because when you play the games in Navi mode, the menu is all 32-bit.
Also the music was not NSF Nintendo format, but rather looping versions of the 8bit tunes.
I think this'll be faked out the same way.
-
God-fucking-damnit it IS 8-bit...
Fabulous...just..fabulous...

Pardon if I may, but that is NOT the first female Robot Master. Roll is. Check the ending of Rockman 3, where they describe that Blues (Protoman) is DRN-000, Rock is DRN-001 and Roll is DRN-002, making her the first female Robot Master.

Yeah she's not a Robot Master. A Robot Master is a boss. She's never been a boss as far as I know. Yes she's a playable character in MMPU, but she's not a Robot Master by my sense of the definition.
I never said she was the first woman. I know about Roll, lolz.

Roll is also a boss in MMPU --when you fight her copy robot in the 3rd stage of Wily's Castle. It's really too bad you couldn't set Roll, Rock, Megaman, or Protoman as boss characters in the custom stages --considering all the AIs exist as copy robot.
I had a female Robot Master Idea when I was a kid. Mer-der Maid --An underwater villian with a siren like singing voice that put her victims in a stupor, while she slits their throats with a razor sharp tail! When Megaman gets equipped with Mermaid tail he can swim underwater and use the tail for melee attacks --he can also put on-screen enemies to sleep by charging up and unleashing siren song.

Robot Masters are NOT bosses. Robot Masters are robots with a higher Artificial Intelligence than the other robots. Like I said, check the ending in Rockman (Megaman) 3, and you will see Roll listed as one Robot Master, with serial number DRN-002.
Some people don't consider Blues, Rock and Roll as robot masters due to their standing as main characters, nevertheless, facts are facts, and stated by Capcom (as per ending of Rockman 3), they are the first three Robot Master.

"Murmaider" -Dethklok
There are no fingerprints
Deep under water
Nothing to tie one to a crime
And if you seek vengeance
All you need are instruments of pain
You need your
Knives? Check.
Rope? Check.
Dagger? Check.
Chains? Check.
Locks? Check.
Laser Beams? Check.
Acid? Check.
Body Bag? Check.
Murmaider [x16]
But beware
For when you quench your blood thirst
Others will seek their vengeance on you
And they won't rest
Until you're dead
They'll have their:
Shiv? Check.
Pipe? Check.
Hammer? Check.
Axe? Check.
Subject? Check.
Location? Check.

Vengeance? Check.
Hold your breath, swim and strain
The smell of death, can't escape
Blood will could and drift away
Attract the murders of Murmaids
It's so cold they all know
What you've done, you can't run
Vengeance is the law for thee
A thousand leagues below the sea
You've been tracked, you've been seen
Murdering the next kin
Ate their hearts drank their blood
Washed your fins in blackened mud
Now you swim try to hide
Heart beats faster from inside
Thought it was a big charade
Your life was ended by Murmaids.

I just got my new Nintendo Power in the mail and there is a full thing about Mega Man 9 with screen shots and an interview with Keiji Inafune about the game. Apparently he said that with WiiWare out they can make any game they want and not need a high budget. He said they had about 20 designers create this game and for an 8-bit game thats a lot of designers. Nobody from the original team except for Inafune is working on it and he is just in a producer role but he did say that he has worked very close on the project and has fixed numerous things he didn't feel the team got right with the art but he has guided them throughout.
He said he isn't even nervous about making a new 8-bit Mega Man that he is just excited. They are going off Mega Man 2 for the most part and he said they are trying to surpass Mega Man 2 with Mega Man 9. Its a big and bold goal but he wants this to be the best Mega Man game. He also said they are using purely 8-bit graphics but they have pushed 8-bit to its very limits and this is about all that 8-bit can do with graphics so they are supposed to be the best 8-bit Mega Man graphics ever.
There is a good chance there might be more playable characters cause he said that is classified info and he can't reveal that. I am so excited about this. I wish I had a scanner so I could scan the pages but I don't. They have some NES style cutscenes in the game, pure 8-bit music and the difficulty level they did not hold back on at all. Also you will control the game just like an original 8-bit game with the Wii Remote turned sideways like an NES controller. This game I am so excited over its not funny. Its a great time to own a Wii thats all I got to say.

Most of the Mega Man games on MMAC also were PSX titles at one time in Japan, the games were retitled Rockman Complete Works 1-6, apparently RMCW had more options in the option menu, but not all options carried over to the MMAC collection.

yup and I hate how it never got a release outside of Japan with as big as rockman is in the rest of the world as well. Seeing the old games rereleased for the PS1 when it was at it's peak would have been tight. No reason to make us wait another 8 years.

Just the other day I managed to clear Hard mode with 17 lives in tow, and with only one death to speak of. (one of the projectiles from the fish boss miraculously managed to get through my upgraded Spread Shot...)

THAT is one KICKASS trailier!!!!!, and this game looks like it has everything that made the other ones so epic including it's own unique superbly konami level of quality soundtrack!!!! It reminds me of being six againa nd popping in megaman 2. And I'm so glad it's not just coming out for WII as I'd probably have to resort to an online purchase at this point if I could even find one close to it's retail price. I've been thinking about getting a PS3 and this clenches it, I HAVE to have this game.

This so fucking awesome, to make a retro game in the year of 2008. My respect for Capcom goes sky high now! It's hard to believe anyone would really go for this.
This truly lifts my spirits, because I do miss the old days of the retro games. And here Capcom comes, making an old 8-bit videogame. I really hope Konami can make something similair with Castlevania.

Here's some news about bonus features/downloads etc... Good to munch on but nothing official yet...

That person sounds like a foaming at the mouth Wiitard. "XBL Achievements aren't worth your time" and "felt like rushed ports" non sense. Cuz it's so hard to port a game that even toaster ovens can run these days right?
-
I bet this game has an epic plot filled with TWISTS and TURNS!
-
Did anyone listen to the soundtrack yet? Hornet Man, Tornado Man and Magma Man are my favourite tunes :D

Woah this is my next game to look forward to.
Im definitely buying this for the Wii .
only 3 more hours central time. :D

Yeah! It's finally here!
Lets see...so far i think Galaxy Man's weapon is the coolest. Its been crazy useful. My favorite song so far is splash woman's theme...i could listen to that for a while.
Also...Jewel man is a dick...
-
Must.... get.... this game....
-
I find that Jewel Man's weapon is more useful than GalaxyMan's, only 'cuz there are so many annoying enemies hanging out juuuuust off-screen right by important jumps.
The thing reminds me of one of those "I wanna be the guy" stages, at times. Seriously, at times it seems that they've purposefully put it so that you'd have to memorize the game completely in order to do even marginally well.
And the achievements sound so wrong "Finish the game without getting hit" LOLOL
Maybe in 7 years when I'm finally awesome at the game.
Anyway, two more Robot Masters to go...

Thats true...i got Jewel Man's weapon late so i didn't get a chance to use it like that. Even so...Black Hole Bomb is just too awesome.
For those who haven't played yet...just you wait.
Im at the wily stages now...im stopping for the day so i can savor the 10 bucks i spent on it. Anyway..concrete man was lame. It was like guts man but with projectiles...eh at least every one else makes up for it...even Galaxy Man.
After playing all the stages i have this to say...
Best Stage: Tornado Man: -Had me on the edge of my seat the whole way.
Best Music: Splash Woman...Second Place: Tornado Man...Third Place...the Stage Select screen.
Coolest Boss: Splash Woman...i thought it was done very well...although Tornado Man gets a mention because the fight is fun with the Mega Buster as well as Galaxy Man because he looks cool.
Also Ive heard rumors of harder difficulties as DLC for a bout 200-300 bucks as well as a new time trial level with a new boss.
Noteable Challenge compleated: Speed Metal: get to boss room without stopping.
-
I loved how I died in later levels. Once you think everything is alright, something comes out and carries you to your death. I also liked the room with 3 lives in it.
-
Ah, the little details in life. So I was playing Magma Man's stage and got really close to one of those lava death rays, and noticed some flying orange pixels near Mega Man's boots, like they were getting singed.

Yeah, there will be difficulty modes. You can look at a list of downloadable content on the manual of the game. Also, Proto Man dlc is coming out October 6.
-
Downloadable content, eh? If only Nintendo's storage capacity weren't so tiny. I've only got like 50 blocks left. No way I'll be able to free room for Ys anytime soon...

Yeah i saw that as well...pretty interesting.
Also, the Wily stages are awesome...i love how they make you use your special weapons.

Yeah. Using Concrete to freeze the Killer Beams... would've been nice to be able to do that in QuickMan stage back in part 2 (without killing your entire TimeStopper ability).
-
Well i beat the game and i can't wait till the DLC drops...im dieing to play more. Although i feel i cheated to beat the game. I had to buy 9 E-tanks just for the final boss. (not that i used them all) I had went though the whole game with out using them until then....i just couldn't beat him with out it.

Proto Man footage. I can't wait to play as him.
-
Whoever said Concrete Man is just like Guts Man obviously has never played either of these games.
