Title: D'you Think The Next CV Game Should Have Been Cancelled?
Post by: Jowceph on June 19, 2008, 05:12:58 PM
As i've been looking on all the CV games there is i (as i would think many people also) have stumbled across the notice that the next CV game for the dreamcast has been cancelled.

from what i read and understood it looked like they didn't want to do it anymore because it wouldn't sell much on the dreamcast.

what do you guys think, cancelled or not...

What exactly are you asking? If we think that Resurrection should have been canceled? I say no, they should have released it..I'm curious to see what it would have been like to play as Sonia in 3d. But at this point I don't care too much. To me LoI and CoD are ideal 3d Castlevania games.

The character designs for Resurrection were atrocious! However, I think it would've been better than the N64 games, but not by much.

I think it was cancelled for good reasons. The developers obviously weren't confidant enough to release it, so who knows what could've went wrong.

It was never finished. It was cancelled early in its life.

Thus it simply must not have been very good... at all.

No, that' not it. The PS2 just came out early in it's development and destroyed sales of the Dreamcast. Actually, I thought the game looked really cool. Apparenly some people at a private gaming convention were lucky enough to play a demo...

SEGA's the one that destroyed themselves. Their consistent releases of crappy, failed 1/2 consoles and Genesis extensions left a hole in their pockets they still haven't patched up.

And while I absolutely love it, Shenmue's lofty development funding didn't help either.

Add these to lackluster PR...

It's just a damn shame.

Yeah, but Sega's practically dead now, right? They're only making money off the arcades and porting their games to other systems.

Sega is still struggling to rediscover its identity. The Yakuza series helps, but the Sonic series has been dragging like deadweight.

Not so much in sales, but gameplay. Sonic still sells well.

Also, that new realtime action / strategy game that features the team that did Skies of Arcadia is said to be really good.

Sorry, this is turning into a Sega topic..

the graphics also looked 64 bit from what I've seen you can still see all the polygons and stuff.

Yeah low polygons, but the textures did make good use of the Dreamcast's VRAM.

From what i remember, Konami has stated that the reason for the title cancellation, it was that the game wasn't enough action. Also IGA on a old interview, i don't remember where it was, has said that the games code exists somewhere inside Konami and when he was asked from the reporter if he was going to include the levels from resurrection as a bonus at a new Castlevania game, IGA laugh and said that if he has the time, maybe it will do it on a future Castlevania game. That interview was around the time that CoD was in the making!!

Wait, CoD, at the time, Ressurrection Cancelled, CoD manga coming out this fall, something involving Wii... *draws a bunch of dots on paper and then connects them, while mumbling something*
I've got it! What if this Wii rumor has something to do with what remains of Ressurrection? What if this Wii game does exist and it will have whatever they had of the game as an unlockable extra? Or perhaps whatever is left will be released as a WiiWare title? Unlikely, I know, but consider the possiblities!

Yeah i guess that it will be an add on coz as someone said earlier it was hardly progressing when it was first cancelled so if i can guess konami then it might be added to a future CV game  with much more action then intended, or as i say much more action that was intended for Resurrection.

I'm glad it was canceled. It may have been nice to see another 3D game like 64, but with that ridiculous story it deserved to be trashed

That was my thought at the beginning. But, yeah, it's kinda unlikely.

OMG! You just HAD to remind me of that god-aweful "time traveling" story, didn't you? Ok, me is glad it got cancelled. Nevertheless, I would still like to see. It looked like a creepy cool 3D CV, that reminded me of an N64 title called "Nightmare Creatures". Anybody know what I'm talking about?

If you would factor in St.Germaine somewhere (or someone like him), it might not be such a ridiculous plot.

However, if you watched the intro, it's mostly tasteless American crap. Could be due to the fact it was so early though.

i heard it was discontinued because it was being developed by konami of america without konami of japan's approval, or they got into some sort of disagreement.

hmm I think this small Q & A can be used to conclude that the game was almost done and that Japan was aware of it's development.

Q. How far along was the game before Konami finally pull the plug? Approximately how complete was it?

A. Pretty far, we had the game was actually on a very good track, we were making great progress. It was really a matter of balancing and tweaking and putting it all together. We had a working version of the game, that still needed to be optimized, physics to be finalized, and additional art designs. When the game was cancelled, it was eventually sent back to Japan so they could look at it for reference for future 3D Castlevanias.

Yeah, I'm glad she doesn't exist anymore on the official timeline.  Besides, if she still was, it would create a plot hole.  Think about it.  In SotN, Shaft says that that vampire hunters including the Belmonts defeated evil with "holy" power.  However, Castlevania Legends put that into question.  I mean originally Sonya was suppose to be the first Belmont to kill Dracula, but based on what I know, Sonya had abilities simular to Soma Cruz from the sorrow games, which would make her powers dark.  Plus, there are rumors that she and Alucard had a child together.  So that would further make the case that the Belmont power was drawn from darkness even though that they used "holy" attacks.  In my opinion, Sonya's existance through whole Castlevania story into chaos.  It's a good thing that Sonya and her game are not apart of the timeline.  I think that the concepts of Sonya Belmont and the canceled game, Castlevania Resurrection, should be put aside and never used again.

Even had Resurrection been a good playable game, I think the concept was just plain stupid. First of all, yeah, get rid of Sonia entirely from the game. Hell, get rid of Victor as well. NO TIME TRAVELLING. Pick an era to set it in and STICK to it! As it was, IGA was treading that line with Saint Germain, though he managed not to fuddle much up(Germain still basically was just an observer of time). But to think, Sonia Belmont, the "Origin to the Belmont Legacy" would, after Legends, be wisked away through time for another adventure is pretty idiotic! And Victor "Tim Curry" Belmont goes "Let's do the Time Warp AGAINNNN!".

Yeah. The very idea of Sonia in the story just really spoiled it. I think Resurrection was dumped fairly and justly annd.. it deserved it.

I'm being a meanie. :P

I Thinnk that IGa can fix the Sonja's story,
Pheraps, he could make her as the Mother of Simon, so, the line: "This boy has the destiny" could have sense.
A good adventure, but please, don't make her blonde, please, no more Cvblondes!!!!!!!

I still think the only way Sonia could've worked is by tweaking her place in the timeline. Instead of having her as Trevor's mother, make her Trevor's DAUGHTER, and have her marry into the Morris family, hence be the connection between the Belmont/Morrises.
