Title: Mathias was a king?
Post by: Kale on July 13, 2008, 09:49:19 AM
On the CVD page, it says hes a king. I thought he was the Strategist for the Crusades or something.

Mathias Corvinus != Mathias Cronqvist. just a name similarity.

That may be, but the OP's point still stands. This is from the Dungeon's Villains page:

"Historically, he was a crazy Romanian ruler who relished in impaling his foes on stakes outside his castle, a madness which Bram Stoker used to create the character in his novel. This has been weaved into the Castlevania plotline, although Dracula apparently used to be an old king named Matthias Cronqvist, who made a deal with the devil."

(bold is mine)

speaking of kurt, it's been like a year, is he ever gonna post anything new in the news section? Some news about OOE would be cool.

Doesn't Death say something like, "I offer this soul to the king who wields the Crimson Stone!" when Walter is defeated and his soul is used to hatch Mathias's vampire egg?

I always thought it was like this, Mathias wasn't a king until he started to wield the Crimson Stone, hence he absorbed Walter and became a king. Not a normal king, mind you, but a supernatural king, the Dark Lord.

He doesn't become the dark lord until a little before Cv3.

He's still referred to as a king, isn't he. Even if he doesn't become the Dark Lord until prior to CV3, Death still refers to him as a king around LoI. Anything regarding events prior to CV3 could be touched upon if IGA ever plans on doing a CV3 Chronicles.

It was something of an anarchic society. Lords like Leon and Mathias could have had enough autonomy to be, in effect, kings.

Exactly, they were knights and therefore nobles.  And in those days, there weren't any formal countries like we have to day.  Areas of land were ruled by nobles and in some cases, as far as I know, by high ranking knights.  Therefore, in a sense, both Leon and Mathias were kings.  After all, remember when Leon first met Rinaldo, Leon is addressed as Lord Belmont.
Get it?
