This came out of nowhere...that hands on sounded pretty positive though!

Wow, now that's pretty old school. I like it, even though I never went to arcades much I salute Quonami for giving a shout-out to the classic days of the 80s, especially since Haunted Castle gives the series something of a pedigree in the arkadez.
-
This is kick-ass, shocking and intriguing all at once.
And it will probably never see the light of day in most US cities. :(
I wonder who the new characters are? Likely just another side-universe set.
-
WTF was now that? :o Wii motion controler style game play?
Also that game was 3D or 2D? From what i read it sounds interesting. Why we didn't heard anything about it at E3 if from what i read this is official from Konami? So many ????? ???
-
In Reply To #4
It seems to be a rail shooter, like House of the Dead or Ninja Assault... 'cept with whips.
A very cool idea for motion controls. If this doesn't come to the arcades here, I could definitely see this being ported to the Wii someday. Although, by the sounds of it, the graphics would have to be pared down.
These games tend to run short so I could totally see IGA being open to this idea in the first place.
I am impressed with Konami's commitment to our favorite franchise this year. Whether you dislike what you see of Judgment or OoE, you have to love the attention CV is getting.
-
In Reply To #5
My only complaint is that we didn't get this one or something like this one for the Wii.
-
something about death being the first boss just sounds so wrong.
does seem like a cool idea, but when an arcade game was announced, i was kinda hoping it was like the 8/16-bit titles in the series.

That sounds awesome! I know it won't come anywhere near where I live, but that's worth driving out to go play! ;D
-
This is awesome but great holy hell this is going to be a pain in the ass to buy, especially if it doesn't come to the US.
-
In Reply To #7
Yeah, that's what I thought too when I read it. Death is supposed to be one of the last bosses, or at least a good chunk into the game. Perhaps you battle him in the beginning then he runs away before you finish him off, then later in the game, near the end, you fight him again, and he's much stronger...?
-
WHOA!! :D
Now THIS is a kickass Castlevania game. I can't wait to play it, if it doesn't come over here Konami of America are a bunch of stupid fucks, a game like this would make so much money and seems like so much fun. I didn't think a Wii type game could work but this proves me wrong. I will buy a wii just for this game as soon as it's brought over.
-
Apparently Castlevania is much more popular in the West than Japan so maybe we will see it.
Though much like Fzero AX I doubt I will ever see one of these.
-

I love the attention but obviously there are still some who shall remain nameless that don't like it, they might as well leave cv altogether & find a new series to bitch about ::)
The art looks like it's in CotM style. The guy looks like Richter, but I hope it's someone else.
-
It definitely looks like Richter...

Hrmmm... I don't see anyone here bitching about this yet at all.
-
Whoa! But anyway, I hope this will release in USA.

Arcades are largely dead where I live... ;_;
My only real hope to play this is a port to the Wii someday, or else playing it in emulation YEARS later.

Over here in NY we have a restaurant/game place called Dave & Busters, it has pool tables arcades a bar etc. Chances are I'll be playing this soon :D
-
If this comes out within reasonable driving distance from my house, I'll waste all my money on it! :P
-
It is already out in arcades and we have no gameplay videos??
-
In Reply To #21
No the hands-on article was based off a demo. Only 2 levels were shown.
It's just a PR move by Konami to tie all this E3 coverage of the other two games together. Pushing the Castlevania name out there in one big shove.
-
how long do you think this will be? generally rail shooters are roughly 6 levels. if done as well as house of the dead 2(in level design at least) it'd be great, with the things you could do to take different paths and all.
-
In Reply To #23
Yeah I'm willing to bet 5-7 levels. These games aren't usually all that long.
-
I think that the arcade thing is just a test. IMo, the game's control is far to similar to the Wiimote to be coincidence, so this is probably a Japan-only test, and if it does well, it gets a worldwide Wii port.
-
There's definitely a good chance it could be ported to Wii if the quarters roll towards it.

It's a strong bet that they'll port this to the Wii at some point. And given the fact that this game is kind of a novelty (i.e. light gun type of game) game, I'd bet you'll see it in a lot more places than you'd think.
But I agree, for the most part, home gaming has killed arcades. It's kinda sad because I LIVED at the arcade when I was a kid.
-

You mean the one in 42nd Street by Port Authority?
-
I'm wondering what the gameplay is actually like - whip-Wii style control sounds interesting. It's almost certain there won't be any platforming, and I am hating the thought of another "watch your view camera spaz out to remind you who's in control (hint not you)" adventure in the grand lightgun game tradition.
But at least it's not complete crap, that's something!
-
The only thing that's actually speaking AGAINST a Wii-version is that the person describing the game said it had PS3/XB360 graphics, which suggests that a straight port for the Wii is out of the question. But who knows, weirder things have happened.
-
The person that posted the Youtube video sent me a private message.
They confirmed that there wasn't any platforming in the part of the game they were able to play (no surprise, but then again the subweapon item button wasn't available either).
They said that being able to crack the whip was like being Simon. Amen to that.
Finally, they said that the Konami rep winked at the question about a Wii port while giving the standard "no comment," but said they had thought about it.
(I'll copy-paste the original message if I get permission to do that.)
-
Yeah the graphics would indeed need to be pared down, but the Wii is the absolute perfect system to accept and maintain the gameplay aspects.
It would still look nice though; Wii can do it.
-
Is the gameplay from a first-person view?
-
That's what they make it sound like.
-
Sounds pretty cool!
In Reply To #19
Nnnyeeeeaaaaah, but do you think it'll generate its rent for long enough that we get our own cracks at it?
-
I really like the artwork for it.
Anyway, I'm kinda hoping it's not just a rail-shooter. I kinda wanna see a new 3D Castlevania game, but with a new system. I think the ones for PS2 are way too much about running around in endless corridors, fighting monsters. In Legacy of Darkness you had traps to avoid and puzzels. I wish they could have a little more of that.
Or perhaps a 3D Castlevania with the style of Simon's Quest..?
-
It's definitely a rail-shooter, but with a whip. This was confirmed. A new game like you're describing probably wouldn't work too well for the arcades.
-
Any guesses on when some new info on this game will be revealed?
oh and i am drunk

I'm expecting and hoping for two games to come out for the home consoles. One remixed version made for the wii, and then years later, a faithful port of the original arcade game on the Wii2 or whatever comes next.
-
If it isn't ported to the Wii at some point, there will be blood at Konami.
Sad thing is, if it's not ported to Wii, I'll never get to play it (CURSE MY LIVING IN ALASKA!!!). We're not big on arcades, apparently.
-
you never know, at one point or another it will be emulated on mame. then you'll just need the right controller type.
-
In Reply To #46
dude you live in alaska?! Me and some friends have been talkin about movin to alaska off and on for weeks now! Whats it like there? Do they really pay ppl to live there? Any hot chics? =D
-
In Reply To #48
We're not paid to live here. We DO have great skiing and snowboarding in winter, and the summers are fantastic. Also, moose are something of a traffic hazard.
-

Yeah.... Mooses... yeah, I like to call groups of them Moosies. Anyway, I assume they have hot chics in Alaska, I mean, it's not like it's some sort of high-tech, torturous prison! :D

Well, having been to other states and nations, I can say that the chicas inhabiting other locales are nice, but poor puny things compared to the lovely ladies of the north.

Who cares.
Castlevania is cool.

In Reply To #59
EXACTLY!
Too bad I'll never play this game in an arcade...
-
In Reply To #56
Hey, CVmaniac, you're alive! :D
Anyway... this arcade game.... I WANTZ 2 PLAY IT!!!11 Is it possible that I could buy a copy of the Japanese game cabinet and have it in my house?
-
In Reply To #61
Anything is possible with huge, unrealistic piles of money. If you've got that, sure.
But, chances are, you don't have that.
So owning your own game cabinet is pretty close to impossible for the common man. Or woman.
-
In Reply To #62
Aha-ha, that's my answer then...
-
Ah, it's nice to be close to Japan, with a local arcade near my town. :)
I hope there is a Data Card option. I love Data Cards...I just don't use mine for wins/bragging rights.

It's funny that we've seen a cabinet shot but still no screen shots. :P
-
Yeah, is there even a game inside that cabinet? I have my doubts...
-
It seems we have a poster.
-
WTF? :o That poster artwork is from Dracula X Chronicles for PSP. What does this mean?
-
In Reply To #72
That means no new story I guess, just a port of DXC.
-
Still, seems interesting enough....
-
Still, seems interesting enough....
I actually lost interest now. Why must they do a port so shortly after the remake?
*annoyed*
-
In Reply To #75
Well, they might have put it into first-person, which would be- DUH! The first boss technically is Death, and therefore they must have totally rearranged it! NOW I CAN'T WAIT!!! :D :D
-
Pic of the actual cabinet:

It looks different now.
-
I wasn't expecting an in-depth story for this arcade game anyway. And it isn't a direct port of DXC but even if it is I still don't see any valid reason to complain.
-
Damn Konami, what the hell are they trying to do to us? Wait... maybe there's... TWO NEW ARCADE GAMES?!?! :D Wii Compilation of arcade CVs, here we come!! *faints, happily so*
-
In Reply To #79
You might actually be right.
-
In Reply To #80
Actually, that's absolutely the case, now that you mention it. Unless one(or both :o) is a hoax. Or, if "The Arcade" was changed into this. :-\ Only time will tell.
-
I think they are two different games. The Medal doesn't seem to have anything related to the "whip-esque light gun", and seems to sport a normal joystick. From the small screens, it seems like it could be a card battle game(or something to that extent).
The Arcade had a generally different vibe, if you consider everything we were told about it by people who actually played it.
-
i thought it might be a slot machine, but yeah, it might be a card game of some sort. it might be a gambling machine of some sort, as there seems to be a place to get coins or "medals" back from after you insert your cash.
-
i thought it might be a slot machine, but yeah, it might be a card game of some sort.

All i can see are subweapons!! :P

All i can see are subweapons!! :P
Virtual Prizes maybe? :-\
-
In Reply To #86
I would say something more like you can get them in real if you get three of the same!! :P
-
i hope so. But there's hope that this is an actual Castlevania game... maybe you get to select your subweapon on the top screen before having to play through a stage on the bottom screen?
-
In Reply To #88
But the bottom screen doesn't showing anything!!
-
In Reply To #89
Yeah, not right now. :P The top screen is currently just a bunch of text.
-
Look at the poster art posted earlier in the thread and you can tell that a bunch of square symbols are arranged in a grid, making it look like a slot machine or a card game.
The symbols at the top have numbers by them that get bigger as you go up. This makes it looks like that's a prize value of some kind, perhaps related to how many coins you put into the machine.
-
http://www.konami.jp/products/am_dracula_medal/
Akumajyo Dracula - The Medal
It is a slot machine that misappropriates the picture of DXC.
There is no new one.
There is no necessity of Akumajyo Dracula.
And, this slot machine is 974,400 yen.

Domo arigado gosaimasu bro for the info!! That Dracula image at the machine slot is looking cool!! Also about what is going on with Castlevania and Konami, i would expect no less from Japan!!
-
Konami works in strange ways.
-
Makes sense I guess. Konami does a lot of slot machines and electronic gaming machines. They even have a huge facility in Vegas. You can see it from the airport.
I doubt they have plans to bring this over here. But you never know I guess.
-
But what about "Akumajo Dracula: The Arcade"? It's real isn't it? I don't care about this "Medal" thing anymore.
-
Of course it's real. But this confirms that The Medal is a different game altogether. The Medal =/= The Arcade. Remember what that guy said about playing it, The Arcade is more like a rail shooter. Slot machine is TOTALLY different than that. There's no way they could've confused The Medal for a rail shooter.
