i was thinking of buying bloodlines but i was wondering if its good i just wanted to know what other people thought of it and if i should get it

It's a very solid Castlevania game that takes liberties with the story (in fact it's still screwing with the timeline). The soundtrack is Michiru Yamane's first work with the Castlevania series, and even then her stuff was amazing (Sinking Old Sanctuary and Calling From Heaven got their starts here). The graphics use the Genesis' effects well, with 3D pans, segmented sprites and even water reflections. The palette and stage designs are weird and dark.
The map take you around the world to various countries. Set in the World-war 1 period, the mood of the game is a little on the creepy side, but with a good amount of that weird Konami quirkiness thrown in (especially the Munitions Factory). Overall the levels are very well varied and none seem out of place.
There's new sub-weapons like Batarang-style projectiles and there's two playable characters who play very different. You'll want to go through with both as certain characters can only access certain areas and secrets.
The Genesis was never good with sounds, though, and the sound effects are easily the weakest part of the presentation.
So yeah.... it's a great game, but it's definitely got its own feel. It's a must play if you're a CV fan. Afterall, IGA's next move with the plot will determine just how Bloodlines fits into the whole picture. And it's 'bout time it's explained.

Gens + Bloodlines rom = your friend!
:D
even if you want to own the actual cartridge, in this day and age there really isn't any reason not to test play it that way.

This is how I first came into contact with most of the castlevania series. I now own Bloodlines/AoS double pack and Cotm via trying them first on the wonderful media of emulation.

I can never get over how amazing Reincarnated Soul is, and why it hasn't appeared in any other Castlevania to date (except parts of it can be heard in the Cordova Town BGM in CoD, but that doesn't count). It should've been in PoR, IMO. And Calling from Heaven is incredible too.

I agree.
Michuru Yamane should put out an album with all the Bloodlines tracks remastered in the modern form.
-
I still think Bloodlines possessed a better soundtrack than Dracula X, which came out about the same time...
Only thing I didn't like in Bloodlines was the platforms that became invisible..forgot what level it was on.
-
Weren't the invisible platforms on the final stage? That stage was all tripped out on awesomeness and illusions. God, I loved it.
Bloodlines is one of my favorite CV games. Michiru's score is so damn catchy, each stage I find myself humming along while playing.

It wouldn't be a far cry to say Bloodlines' score rivals that of SotN's.
Reincarnated Soul, Iron Blue Intention, Calling From Heaven...all great.

Yeah if only it were in better quality than the Genesis sound chip. It's still very good, but it could be better.

Now that I think about it, the only music I don't like from Bloodlines is the Leaning Tower Music "The Discolored Wall" (http://eiac.paragonsigma.com/mirror/fuentes/CVB-_The_Discolored_Wall.mp3), but even that one is pretty cool in its Dissonance. :P
My Favorites are "Calling from Heaven (http://eiac.paragonsigma.com/mirror/fuentes/CVB-_Calling_form_Heaven.mp3), "The Sinking Old Sanctuary" (http://eiac.paragonsigma.com/mirror/fuentes/CVB-_Sinking_Old_Sanctuary.mp3), and "Prayer of a Tragic Queen" (http://eiac.paragonsigma.com/mirror/fuentes/CVB-_Prayer_of_a_Tragic_Queen.mp3).
The Ending music is great as well. "Requiem for Nameless Victims".

Bloodlines DID have a great soundtrack. And there were a lot of fantastic ideas in the game that I feel ought to be considered in future games like the way the Tower Of Pisa leans back and forth, and the mirror tricks in the last stage. Konami made up for the Genesis' lack of power with some great ideas.

They weren't invisible; the screen was divided into 3 or 4 sections going across the screen horizontally, and the sections were all 2 inches offset from each other. So if you were standing in the middle of the room, your feet would be 2 inches to the right. You really had to memorize patterns to get through that level!
Then the level right after that is completely upside-down! With Jon/Eric walking on the ceiling! I've never seen that in any other game...really cool stuff.

only if you suck. it's not that hard to judge the distance with your eyes and use your imagination a bit to see how it really should look like, if you can do that the room is easy. :o
that's how i always go through that room, and so far i didn't die in it even once.

Bloodlines was my first CV, and will always be one of my favourites. It has a really awsome setting/feel, which although completely differant from CV4 is equally awsome. I always loved the Atlantis level in particular.

That stage features some really nice graphical effects; as well as "Sinking Old Sanctuary"... so automatic WIN.

Nah. Now that you legally own it, why not just play it in emulation instead? Personally, I'm waiting for Wii's VC to get it.
Then again, if you want the TRUE experience, you're gonna have to open it.
BTW, how much did you pay for it?

I doubt it's never been opened, someone probably just repackaged it. I'd say theres no point in not opening it, unless your planning on reselling it or something. Anyways, it a much better experiance with a gamepad and a tv.
