Title: Who is the real lord of Darkness? Dracula, Death or the Devil?
Post by: AxeArmor on August 03, 2008, 02:25:47 PM
This might sound a bit off-topic, but it's about Castlevania too. In the castlevania games, Dracula is known as Lord of Darkness. In movies, I have seen the Devil been called Lord of Darkness. And well, I guess Death could be as well.

In the Castlevania mythlogy, the heir of these characters are a bit strange. Dracula is of highest ranking, while Death are right below him. I always thought that order was strange until it was explained in LoI, how Dracula controls Death with a stone.

I find it real weird that the devil is always a normal enemy in the castlevania games. He is the true definition of evil, and should be way up in the rankings.

I think of Dracula and the devil the same. I think Dracula is evil personified from another dimension.

That's why I don't like the idea of Mathias becoming him.

I also think both Dracula and the devil are fiction.

I think the devil enemy in the Cv series is just a type of demon.  As for the dark lord, Satan was the original dark lord, but some how was dethroned and Dracula became the new dark lord.  In the Cv series, the dark lord is the incarnation of evil (the opposite of God, assuming there is such a being).  I could be wrong though.

In Castlevania, Hell is chaotic, and has no ruler (Death could be considered the "ring master", an entity keeping the trillions of demons in check). Dracula willingly became the ruler, thus becoming the Lord of Darkness.

That's how I see it.

with iga taking over i'm pretty sure dracula is, and each and every devil, demon etc. is his minion. every single one, no exceptions.

Death I don't think has free reign over a mortal plane of existence, so dracula perhaps can help him overcome that.

As for the devil, you can call someone A devil, to indicate they're evil, however that doesn't mean you think they're THE devil.
I think the normal enemies are just strong demons that are A devil.
We just have yet to fight THE devil.
My theory.
:D

In real life, the Devil is the Dark Lord. In Castlevania, Dracula is the Dark Lord because he's the most evil being physically incarnated on the earth. Death isn't necessarily a dark lord, but just a personification of a dark subject.

Satan, Dracula gets his power from Satan but Satan is still the Supreme being with Dracula being  a vessel for his power in this plain. Satan is still top dawg though and would kill any of the belmonts or anybody else easy. Like God chose to do with Jesus when he freely accepted him and became his "son" if you believe in Christianity. Personally I believe he eventually made a pact with him so he would have the power to be the supreme evil in the earthly realm. Or so he thought only to have Satan continually laugh at him and gain enjoyment from watching him continually fail horribly.

In real life there is no dark lord.  ;)
Even if you are a christian, Satan was never meant to be more than a bad angel who resides in hell.  He was not the equal of god in anyway.  The whole vision of fiery hell with Satan hoarding over it was made up in the middle ages to scare people into church.  Hell is hebrew for "seperated from god" that's all it was ever meant to be.

Wanna know who is the real Dark Lord?

(http://usera.imagecave.com/kosso/IGA.jpg) and he will put the end to the history (Castlevania history of course if he thinks to stay on the saga)

Yesterday, I noticed that the description for "Satan's Ring" in Dawn of Sorrow was "Once worn by the Dark Lord".  So, do they mean that Satan was a Dark Lord?  Or that the Dark Lord (Dracula or a previous dark lord) wore Satan's ring?  Was Satan the previous dark lord before Dracula??

That's a mistranslation, it's Dracula's ring.

well that makes more sense.  the mistranslation kinda ruined the Dracula theme of "Dracula's Tunic" + "Dracula's Ring", not to mention the dracula soul combos.

The proper name of the ring is "Demon King's Ring."  "Demon King," also translated as "Dark Lord," has always been Dracula's title throughout the series.

Satan doesn't exist in the CV universe.

Mathias made a deal with 'an evil deity' to get his undead powers, so there is SOMETHING out there more evil than him.

I've always figured that there is Dracula, who is basically the CV universes Satan, but maybe weaker than the traditional Satan. Of course, if god exists in CV, then I see no reason for angels, and by extension, Lucifer, to not exist.

it'd be funny and cliche if dracula was actually an earthly incarnation of the ruler of hell, so when he dies he goes to his domain, then returns when summoned.

Wanna know something interesting?

In the Japanese version of SOTN, Death is labeled as "Dracula's Heart".

I've always looked upon it like this: Dracula managed to escape Death, making him more powerfull than Death itself but nevertheless Dracula is a living entity ( he had a beginning )
While he is the most powerfull being in the living realm there is no indication that he rules over Hell, Hades or whatever. So there probably is a creature more powerfull or more evil than him but it simply hasn't shown interest in the conflict and thus hasn't appeared yet.

Hell is hebrew for "seperated from god" that's all it was ever meant to be.

Actually, Gehenom (Hell in Hebrew), derived from Gey-Ben-Hinom or simply Gey-Hinom (Hinom's valley)  originally was the name of a genuine area in Jerusalem where the ancient nations used to perform human sacrifice. I guess the place won such a bad reputation because of this, that later the same word was used to describe a place where sinners receive eternal suffering post-mortem.

Hmmm I think I remember parts in Bram Stoker's Dracula where the villagers refer to Dracula as Satan, more to the point that a Vampire is a Satanic creature.
