In case the music is skipping, you will have to change the hardware acceleration for the sound to minimum or off. It may prevent some crashes too. The engine's DirectSound implementation is very poor, so this has to be done as a workaround until I find a more reliable sound plugin. Winamp plugins only.
If it gets too notorious, delete mus00.nou to remove some of the music. It will fix some crashing. The game may randomly crash/freeze. I have no real idea what causes it right now. Selecting the game mode on the main screen using the Q key will also crash the game, that's an engine error. If the game crashes as soon as you start it it may be due to damaged sound or video drivers. Perhaps try reinstalling those, or get a new copy of DirectX drivers.
Select all of the modes using player 1's controls, player 2's will cause the game to glitch, but they work fine once in game.

put this in the same folder as the game. it'll reduce dracula's life to half of what it was, making it more fair. i forgot to fix that, so his second form had absurd amounts of life. :\

this is so awesome! I played through with chronicles simon. So this game is amazing.. Was it very hard to learn to program this type of gamepley for mugen?

It's pretty cool. I tried Alucard and Hugh. Maybe it's just me but it seems Hugh kind of ... sucks. His range really blows and his moves lag like crazy. He doesn't seem to have any invincibility while charging his moves and gets hit out of them easily.
You can add my character if you'd like, hehe. I just can't remember if she required any more moves ...

the flame explosion gives him super armor (takes hits but can't be hit out of it). dash across the screen once active gives him total invincibility.
but yeah, his weapon range is crap, worse than even alucard's. not as bad as carrie's second weapon who i have yet to finish. i have to make some new animation for hugh's regular sword attack i suppose.
as for the character, i think i have most of the sprites. i still need death anim (it can be anything really, but since recently i've been adding characters who have simon like death anims, so those would be great), more hurt frames for crouching and air states, a hold up anim and perhaps a victory pose. if she's supposed to be using subweapons, i'll need a standing and aerial animations for her throwing them. perhaps an aerial version of the whip as well, maybe even crouching. not sure how was it supposed to be activated.
at least that's what i can come up with for now.

So I tried it out. Pretty need, especially Drac's teleportation, reminds me of bloodlines.
One issue though, axe armour is pretty overpowered imo. He can beat most characters simply be wailing on them if you just ignore the opponents attacks.

yeah, the game's just a beta, so it needs much more rebalancing. i released it like it is because of the deadline i imposed on myself, otherwise the game could've been delayed forever like some other fangames. :o

The animation is kinda choppy on my computer....the animation and sound keeps skipping?

Alucard's double backslash seems hard to do for just a d,f+x move....it's like if it happens it was from luck....characters like Richter with d,f+x attacks like the roundhouse kick I can do easily however. =/
typo. the command is actually f,f+x
How do I play as SCV4 Simon? On the site it says he's an available character in the demo but I only see Chronicles Simon.
hold start while selecting. it also works for richter.

Serio, your game is awesome!
I ran into an odd glitch though. My friend and I were playing CO-OP, and he died in the place where frankenstien was. Then, in the next battle, our guys were controlled by the computer, fighting the computer :o :o :o
Besides that, I only had it crash on me once and I haven't had any more problems.
You have done an amazing job! I absolutely love it!

When I was doing survival on The Dark Chapel area, all of the enemies only had one HP. :o
Also, when I killed Dracula in survival, the orb never came.

well the readme does say survival is still really buggy. dracula has been problematic especially, i'll have to check him.
as for the chapel thing, give more info. i can't see anything that could cause it. how many players, what mode for enemies, who you played as, which player's controls, what boss did it started at, was it the first round or later etc.

Yup it's a good thing you released this demo, as you said many (if not most) fan games never see the light of day, and you'l get alot of feedback, so here's some more of mine;
Alucards normal attack, like OAA is really rapid fire and does abit too much damage. On another note though, his fireball attacks are awsome.
Simon's laurels are abit overpowered. They're great, cause Simon has a kinda slow attack, and no real special moves, so he needs them, but they do need to be toned down abit.
Lastly, Dracula's moveset is really random, there's no telling what he's gonna shoot at you. You might want to find a way of signaling, only sligthly beforehand what kind of attack he's using, or slow his attacks down abit.
EDIT: Oh yeah, forgot to say, this game is really good though.

to config the game, use config.exe (for stuff like key config). to go full screen press alt+enter. there's a permanent full screen possible, but it increases the chances of freezing and system lock ups, so i suggest not using it.
to go permanently full screen edit config.cfg, find
DXmode=windowed
and change it to
DXmode=Hardware

fixed. alucard now hits for less, and axe armor much less. i noticed that armor was using an old damage calculation which was entirely unaccurate and ignored the enemy's defenses.
simon now heals from 64-128 life per use of laurels. those are just the extremes, usually it's around 90-110.
i'll see about drac, but so far i think the voices+poses should be enough of a warning, since he says different things while using his moves.

I've had trouble of fighting richter vs richter in arcade mode. any hints?
Also so far I've only found one "special"way of getting the orb, it involves sliding. are there any others?

Like in HoD try to touch the orb at the peak of your character's attack. If you do it just right I noticed you gain an additional 100 HP and MP for the next battle.

Player 1 was Richter, and Player 2 was Simon (chronicles), and Player 1 died.
as for the chapel thing, give more info. i can't see anything that could cause it. how many players, what mode for enemies, who you played as, which player's controls, what boss did it started at, was it the first round or later etc.
I think I was playing as Richter, and I had the AI play as Julius. The controls were default. It was in Survival mode. I can't remember what difficulty it was or the first boss. It died immediately :O
I'll see if I can do it again.

I downloaded it, was having a play-through which I quite enjoyed, got killed by the second form of Death, then it crashed when I tried to continue. Might just be my systwem, I'll keep an eye on it. Good game, anyhow, rather well-balanced from what I can ascertain at this early stage of my playing.

i found one glitch with death, it only happened once, where he lost his scythe and was unable to fihgt back in his second form, aside ramming me, as for dracula i found the battle fairly nice, altho i expected a third form, lol i look forward to the final game tho
glitch found:
richter battle co-op mode player 1 simon default pallet, player 2 richter belmont, default pallet,
cpu: richter and rondo richter
oddity: you can control the cpu's jump
cure: hope you win and let death kill you to get control back
on a side note: dracula on co-op on nihgtmare is insane, i can;t beat him.

If you use the right element, Yoko absolutely RAPES everything in sight. Her rod attack is fast and like in DoS, gives her back some HP on contact. As mentioned before though, she does very little damage to Death (needs some Holy elemental magic or something).

another glitch again with same team simon and richter, if player 2 (richter dies) death's scythe in his second form vanishes and death will only float in the air. noyt confirmed if this happens 100% of the time but it makes him very easy to beat using a sacrafice

Yeah, I enjoyed it. Pretty cool stuff. I would have liked Olrox' 2nd form, but I know it's difficult to make.

another glitch is doubles, if you defeat the 1st cpu opponet the second will 90% of the time not bother fighting, cept dracula who will screw the entire game up if you defeat him when theres 2 dracula,s i've beated cpu1 in his second form your character willr un the castle will collapse cept dracula will teleport in the ending scene and continue the battle, also the credits will not roll and dracula can be heard teleporting and attacking at nothing

i know. 2 bosses mode is extremely glitchy and will break the game. i can't help with that.
i won't be fixing it until very late in development, since it requires a complete code rewrite for the ai and victory parts. i'd rather have everything finished to know how to recode it more efficiently than add more dirty hacks later.
I would have liked Olrox' 2nd form, but I know it's difficult to make.
yeah. the engine can't do rotating-part monsters efficiently.
it technically could do them, but you wouldn't be able to hit them since the collisions are unfinished in the engine itself and aren't affected by rotation at all. it wouldn't be possible to accurately hit him since they'd never change their positions.
then there's also the problem of joints to which the rotating parts are bound. the engine can only do one of those, the axis. the main body would require at least 6 of those.

evil soma is a glitch. he isn't finished (lacks moves, and needs rebalancing), and for some reason sometimes appears instead of dracula. he was supposed to be locked out until he's finished.
the 9999 damage move can be avoided by either staying in air or crouching.
2nd, how can I make my game screen look like urs.

Is it coz of the size of screencut? Images look more neat in smaller size. I wonder if I can change the screen size so tht it looks better xD

the real screen size is 640x480, and if you want it to be like my screens, resize it to 50%, so that the ending result will be 320x240.
i made the game display itself on 640x480 because 320x240 is very small, and while decent for screenshots (they don't stretch the page as much) it's too small to play on it without having to strain your eyes.
plus full screen will work worse, since some monitors can't display 320x240 correct anymore.

oh yeah, delete all of the old files. they might conflict.
btw. in case the game gives an out of memory error, there's one thing that could probably help (other than buying more ram).
open config.cfg in a text editor, find the line that goes like
[misc]under it there are few options, changing which might lower the memory cost in exchange for longer load times.
PlayerCache=4lowering this to 2, 1 or even 0 might help. it will instead read the player/boss data directly from files instead of the memory.
Precache=1setting this to 0 and disabling it will stop the game from trying to preload the player data as soon as possible and will extend the loading times between fights. this works with playercache.
BufferedRead=1setting it to 0 won't preload the sprite and sound data as fast as possible into the buffer, lowering the memory usage in exchange for slower loading speed.
UnloadSystem=0setting this to 1 will remove all the system files from the memory after each fight, as well as the menus.
changing some of those might help for the people who get the out of memory error.
also for those who got the original version, as well as for future updates.

-fixed the corner ai bug for cerberus, olrox, shaft, werewolf and lesser demon
-boss richter's super item crashed in the mid fight for hard and nightmare modes switched around
