Title: So does PoR have the best final boss-fight in a Castlevania-game? *Spoilers*
Post by: Mechar on September 20, 2008, 04:54:17 AM
So while I was playing some Harmony of Dissonance yesterday, for some reason, I started to think about the final boss fight in Portrait of Ruin. Adn whether or not I

not for me, that place is occupied by cod dracula. best first form battle ever, what with all new attacks, awesome music and all.

the second form was worse, but it was still much better than portrait's. it was a very similar design (a giant brown devil), but cooler, what with the use of blood for his design and attacks.

Actually, I agree, it's probably the best one for me too. There are several other good ones though, Bloodlines and CotM I like alot.

I found it awesome to fight Death and Dracula at the same time but CoD takes the cake when it comes to the best one.

Seeing Dracula & Death team up for the first time was a nice surprise at first, but the cheesy dialogue & all that accompanies it just killed the experience for me.

CoD's Dracula was okay, but I didn't like it either because the game woulda been better off without him, just like PoR.

That is a great boss fight, and one of my favorites, but I think it's too easy. I also like the CoD final boss. Another good one, I think, is the DXC final, Since they added that last form of Dracula into it.

I'm not really sure what my favorite one is though

I thought it was a lot of fun.  I generally dislike final bosses though and would rather just be done with them.  I didn't like the fact that you could die in one or two hits if you slip up and then have to play it all over again, which can be pretty long.  I could have beaten it eventually, but I don't really have the patience for that sort of thing anymore, so I just bought a cheat device so I could get it over with and unlock Richter/Sisters/Hard mode.  That's all I used the cheat device for though (plus unlocking Axe Armor).

As weird might sound this one, my favorite final boss-fight is with menace from DoS. Awesome boss, very nice music and good difficulty!!

Wow.. I really disliked the final boss fight in PoR. It just felt messy and random and not epic enough. The idea is something I could see in a fanmade hack, but not in an official Castlevania game. I prefer to fight the two separately, and in much larger rooms too. It's much more epic that way.

My favorite final boss is actually the one in Super Castlevania IV. Not because of Dracula himself (he's kinda boring) but the whole atmosphere that builds up when you reach the castle keep. It's soooo eerie! To have Dracula turn into some huge demon would probably have ruined the whole thing.

I think CoDs and DXCs final boss battles were better, in my opinion. It was very out of character for the 2 of the to fight together.

not I. I can't stand it, actually. Death floats around and tries to smash you, and its pretty easy to dodge. He just seemed like a useless environmental gimmick, and too weak. Now, if he attacked similar to how he did in the actual Death fight, complete with scythes, then I would have forgiven Dracula's completely original battle style (3 sets of fireballs? Shocking!)
DXC takes my favorite, I loved 3rd form Dracula, very nice.

Something is extremely epic about battling Dracula in CoD using Trevor.

I actually totally forgot about Menace. And yes, that fight is really awesome to. They way he takes up almost the whole screen and having the player have to dodge all the flying "headcrabs" (sorry Half-Life), fellt like playing a boss in a shmup.

i'unno.

SCIV has my favorite final battle overall because of the whole leadup with the Room of Associates, and the atmosphere is absolutely brilliant.

CotM has my favorite music, though.

The only thing that really bothered me about PoR's final battle was that Jonathon and Charlotte were able to defeat both Dracula and Death at the same time. I just can't see that happening. They should have saved that battle for a Belmont.

Rack one more up for SCVIV, with the Room of Associates and the awesome music there, and then the music cutting out and the eerie theme song coming in, with all those candles being lit as you walk past them. Totally swell. Then Simon Belmont's theme as you're finishing the ass-kicking on Drac after his face has disappeared (lol, awesome), and the very triumphant and emotional music at the end.

Castlevania IV is everything I love about Castlevania.

I'll admit, I liked the first form of the PoR boss battle (Like when Death turns into his own weapon and Dracula slams it down. I have NO clue why, but that's my favorite move to watch...while Johnthan dies.  Makes me feel happy inside.) but I just really, REALLY liked the DXC version way more, or more over, the final version of Dracula. A loved a lot of his moves. Same with Curse of Darkness.

That's one thing I'm hoping with OoE if Drac's the final boss (if what that guy at 1 Up was saying is true, maybe not) is that we'll get Drac with new fighting moves.  And I'll admit it.  I wish they'd put the VA so I could hear him say the line from the trailer.  Loved it.

Hell no, CVIII dracula blows that one out of the water, he has 3 full forms filled with multiple attacks, and you can only be hit 4 times before you die.

The fact that Death and Dracula teamed up with some pretty great moves was awesome but  whenever the character spoke before and after the fight, it just ruined the epic vibe.

Though I agree with another poster: Trevor fighting Dracula in CoD was pretty epic.  I like DXC's boss though.  Bloody rain, transforming into a huge werewolf, six wings of awesome...I thought it was pretty awesome.

The best Final battle was CoD and LoI.

I completly agree with that, simply any boss fight with CoD Trevor seemed epic to me :P

No. The final tag-team battle royale was, undoubtedly, the best part of the whole game. - Well, that and unlocking Richter and Maria as a team and *then* taking on Death & Drac old-school style. But for all-time greatest final fights, as others have mentioned there are better moments.

Bloodlines hath the build-up, and the progression therein is darkly divine.

I thought they looked a lot more like Langoliers:

Menace was a cool battle. I liked how it starts off in that constricted environment, that at first, looks like a room, then you beat the little head and the room stands upward and it's revealed to be an actual giant monster.

CoD, CV3 and DXC are my favorite final battles, though.

I agree, the CastlevaniaIV boss fight was amazing. (especially when I played it back in 91,it still holds up,too) Call me crazy but to this day my favorite end-boss fight was Castlevania 64. That went on forever. It was freakin epic.

It's not the best, but it's a fun one to be sure. Fighting Death & Drac at the same time almost made it seem like a Smash Bros. battle somehow, but with teams. THey oughtta have made a 2 on 2 battle mode in PoR, that would have at least made better use of the WiFi mode.

But the BEST Dracula battle? It's gotta be CVIII. That one is just incredible from start to finish. There are other good ones (CoD is an honorable mention) but that one just rules.

Well, I thought the fight was interesting and all... but a little too easy and predictable. When you were fighting Death alone, he used all of his tricks and attacks. When he says "Let us show them our true power!" all he does is follow you around and manually use his scythe in a downward chop while Dracula uses cheap and easily avoidable projectiles. Really the only challenge in that stage was when they made a spherical bomb attack thing, in which I either did a combined attack or put on my Impervious Mail, and completely blocked 1/3 of those attacks.

I personally liked the boss fight from Dawn of Sorrow so far.

Thank you Dark Nemesis. Sorry i didn't post my favorite boss battle so well in my opinion my favorite battle is the Lament of Innoncence battle and i tell you why: For me this battle (battling Walter and Death) is pretty easy even in hard mode but in storywise this is the first Belmont vs Dracula's Army (walter's at the time) after and before the battle was all sweet and how mathias planned it all along, i never really expected that and Leon Belmont's final words to death was epic. I now is not the best final boss battle because we all have diferent opinions like Symphony's the best battle or Dawn's or Cicle of the moon or Dracula's Curse but for me this is my favorite of all time and i hope they considarate making a game between lament's and dracula's curse timeline (or legends, i find it as part of the series ^^).
