Title: Daddy! Dracula turned into a NAUGHTY BUTTERFLY!!!
Post by: cecil-kain on September 20, 2008, 07:30:21 AM
I'm a few years into fatherhood now, and my kids are have become fascinated by my games.  They sat back on the couch while I fired up DXC on my Trinitron and watched me slay the undead with the same facination as Disney movies or Nick Jr.  Of course my girls love to talk throughout..
------------------------------------------------------------

NO DADDY!  I don't want Richter, I WANT the little GIRL!

Daddy all our houses are on FIRE!

AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH! It's SHAFT!

Look at the snake lady!  She has snakes in her hair!

It's The Naughty MOMMY and TOILET PAPER! Smells like poopy turds! Peeeeeeew!

AAAAAAAAAwwwwww....  Richter fell down...

Daddy, I don't like this Music I want the OTHER one!

Daddy LOOK! She turned into a BAT GIRL!  She likes her little bats!

*Gasp* D-R-A-C-U-L-A !!!!!!  He's REALLY  N-A-U-G-H-T-Y!!!!

OHNO!  Dracula's throwing FIRE! He's hurting Richter!

DADDY DADDY DADDY!!!  Dracula's turning into a GREAT BIG MONSTER!!!!

Look Daddy!  Dracula turned into a NAUHTY BUTTERFLY!!!
------------------------------------------------------------

And so on and so forth....  More recently my kids are watching over my shoulder while I play Final Fantasy IV on my DS, but they know a new Castlevania is coming and they're stoked.   Anyway just thought I'd attempt a thread about sharing Castlevania with our nearest and dearest, the next gen, girlfriends, younger sibling gamers etc... Any takers?

Thats awesome!

That just kind of reminds me when I was a kid and I started playing Castlevania at the age of 4. I thought it was the most amazing thing in the world at the time and was just so absorbed and amazed by it.

I'm curious as to what this was in reference to.

I would often play around with the optional tracks collected in the game. My oldest Daughter really enjoyed "Bloody Tears"and didn't like it when I changed the cathedral stage music to "Requiem for the Gods".

Ah interesting.

I changed that wreck as well..i believe its the weakest song on the soundtrack..i think i either switched it up your song or Dance of Pales.

I got a number of gaming nephews and nieces, but my youngest nephew is 9 years old.

Recently we started playing Secret of Mana together.  His comment:

"This game is great!  It's multiplayer adventure! Where has this game BEEN all my life!?"

My comment:
"Um, this game was around before you were born.  It's older than you are!"

"OH... we gotta start playing all these before-me games"
"Oh we will."

Games we've been revisiting:
Chrono Trigger
Chrono Cross
Secret of Mana
Earthbound

I didn't mind the remix of Bloody Tears all that much.

My oldest is only 4.5 --just barely at the point where she could start playing....  I'm so looking forward to that.  Problem is she has 2 younger siblings that would start having major jealousy issues --and I don't need to hear that noise.  At least the baby is too young to care.

Secret of Mana would be a great for novice players becuase of the multiplayer feature...  Are you playing that on Virtual Console or SNES?

I own the SNES version.
However, I've been playing it on the Wii via... certain other means that are not VirtualConsole-related... >_>

My nephew wants me to "Gift" him Super Mario RPG so I'm gonna do that.  :)

Aww, your daughters are so cute and sweet!

I remember when I was younger and my older brother used to play Castlevania 3. Every time it showed the part where Trevor was playing in front of the cross before the game started, I would do the same thing and pretend our couch was the cross.  I would cheer everytime he won and I think I even cried when he lost the game at Dracula cause I thought Trevor was actually dead.

Man, such great memories.  I'll always love CV3 just for that, never mind that the game is awesome.

Hmmm... Well, even though I may not have any kids of my own, I do get an occasional cousin (all between ages 9-15) who'll get interested in the artwork I'll be doing and ask what it's from. Then I'll explain it's inspired by a great video game series virtually every one of them gets interested in finding out about. And it never fails... I say go check out Symphony of the Night, Super Castlevania IV, CotM, AoS, HoD, PoR, and they all let me know when and if they play any or all of them that this is one addictive game series. And the music is terrific to boot. ^_^

I always hold off on the 3D games, though one cousin first got hooked on CV by starting off with the two N64 titles.

Apart from that, ehhh. . . . Practically everyone who pays me visits at home is bound to catch an earful of CV music at some point. And they always, always, always ask what it is that I'm playing. - And where can they get it.

Well, every friend of mine knows that CV has awesome sprite works and great music. Also one of my friends... well, she's not a child or anything, even though she sometimes acts like one, was a total noobie to videogames, so I showed her Metroid and Castlevania. Ok, she always asked me to do every boss for her, but I only showed her how I make them and then reset without saving. And at least she has beaten Metroid Fusion and Dawn of sorrow, in PoR she's stuck at Drac. Maybe, when she has her own TV (she lives in a flat share) I'll let her lend my PS2 plus SotN.

Btw, sometimes when we're in the pedestrian zone, she suddenly shouts "DIE MONSTER! YOU DO NOT BELONG IN THIS WORLD!" and after that we stand there and yell the whole dialogue, making dramatic poses.

If I'll ever have a wife, I want to do that with her too. ;_;
