Title: Feasability of a Traditional Belmont Legends Hack
Post by: Reinhart77 on October 08, 2008, 01:09:27 AM
Since Legends is based somewhat on the Belmont's Revenge engine, I sometimes wonder if it might be a "simple" to hack Legends so that you could play as Christopher Belmont.  Well, I'm sure it wouldn't be too terribly easy, but it might be reasonable and kinda fun?  Any thoughts?

It would be fun to add Trevor Belmont as an unlockable character and make it so that he could use all of the subweapons that Sonia was able to find in the during her quest.  You could use Chris's sprites, give him the holy water, axe, and boomerangs from the US and European Belmont's Revenge game and use Sonia's Wind Soul for the Pocket Watch.  The Dagger doesn't appear at all in the game, so it'd need to be made from scratch.  Perhaps the Saint spell could be used for a Dagger?  The subweapons should be selectible like Sonia's souls, the icons for the weapons are all nicely available in Legends.  He shouldn't be able to use the flame whip.

Anyways, I always thought they should have let you play as Trevor as a bonus after beating the game.

Yeah, that's a nice idea....shouldn't be too hard.  Just change the sprites of the characters and weapon attacks to make it look more like what you want.

The subweapon thing might be tough, as she didn't use those in the same fashion in Legends.  I suppose the healing could be like the Herb, etc....

Nice idea, but why would it be a bonus to get to play as someone who hasn't even been born yet??

it's really just symbolic to be able to play as Trevor, just pretend that the castle hasn't changed by the time Trevor came of age and leave out the actual plot of Dracula's Curse.

the trick is that it's merging elements from two different games to get the full arsenol of sub-weapons.  i'd imagine that would be rather tricky, but "maybe" doable.  but i've never made a hack, so i wouldn't know.

If you're talking about Richter/Maria mode in PoR isn't that the opposite?  That's getting to play as people long dead (or very very old at best)...

unless richter/maria could live well over 100 years, they're pretty much already dead. :o

I'm a Legends fan too.  Watch your tone, sir.
In all seriousness though, be civil about your hatred. :P

If you're going to defend Legends for something, at least pick its great remix of Bloody Tears over that clunky cow of a playable character.

I'd imagine she's just as much as a cow as Christopher is in CVA though, since they're the same in terms of gameplay.  At least Sonia can crawl...

...but Bloody Tears!  Yes, awesome remix there.  I'm still waiting for JILost's super-combination mix of all Bloody Tears tunes.

Technically Christopher would move like a bull.
