Anyone know where I can buy it? I guess I'm sort of a masochist.
Or, if I can't buy it for a reasonable price, would someone like to burn me a copy? :3 I'll give you a few moneyz for the DVD and shipping.
-
Play-Asia has a pre-owned copy, but it's $50, and that's...a tad much.
-
yeah, especially for an oldschool game like that with no bonuses or anything. not saying the oldschool style isn't worth it, my favorite castlevania style actually, but full price for something that's long gone by....
though i suppose it is hard to say in this case. technically you would get your moneys worth due to the ridiculous amount of hours you'd put in trying to beat it.

isnt that game only pal?

Yeah. But if you have a modded PS2 that won't be a problem for North American gamers.
-
Why would it be PAL? It's a Japanese game and they use NTSC.
As for playing it since it's imported, I intend on buying this device (http://www.slimtool.com/slimtool_uk/home.htm) as well as a Swap Magic disc. I think that's all I need to play it on my Slimline PS2.
-
Actually, come to think of it, I believe all I need is this (http://www.ps2cover.com/pstwofliplidswapmagic.shtml). That flip-top is designed for the Slimline PS2, and I imagine it allows me to swap the discs without resetting the system, which I believe is what would happen if I were to get just the Magic Swap disc without the flip-top, since hitting the open button on the slim tends to bork everything up.
And I found Haunted Castle for $35, which is still pricey, but eh, whatever. Since it's Japanese I imagine it emulates one of the much easier Japanese versions. Shame the soundtrack CD isn't as bassy as some Konami collection CD, according to Kurt, but oh well, still kind of cool to have I guess. I wish it were better, though, since the music is by FAR the best part about this game.
Soon I'll have to import me some beatmania games since I own two controllers.
-
I'd just MAME it.
-
That's what I have been doing, but there's something about playing old games on a 480i TV that makes them so much better than on a high-res monitor.
If the MAME emulator for Wii ever gets to a point that it's actually good and games don't take half an hour to an hour to load, I'd be happy as a clam.

Me too. Then I'd finally get to play Magical Drop III on the Wii. :3
Although I could play it via NeoGeoPocketColor Emulation but it's NOT THE SAAAME!! :P :P :P

Seriously man, I think Haunted Castle is a great game, but it's not worth what they're charging for it. You'd be better off just trying to get an actual arcade cabinet or just MAME-ing it and getting USB adapter for your Dual Shock.
-
I paid $40 at a local game store, but it does come with a CD and a cheesey DVD thing plus you get a cool little card.
SO I guess $50's not too terrible considering. And it's something you can show off if you're a hard core nerd
-
The place that had it listed for $35 actually doesn't even have it in stock. Bogus.
Not paying $50. I'd sooner buy something of higher prioritah, like Wario Land: Shake It!.
-
Yay, got it on eBay for $33.99. :) A reasonable price, sorta, even though it is just a ROM. But I actually quite enjoy the game, even though I wish it offered unlimited continues. Starting at the beginning of the game after three deaths is bogus.
Also bought that flip-top cover for my PS2 Slim. Comes with the Swap Magic discs, and I also bought Breaker Pro for PSX games. :o

Say, as far as the MAME version of Haunted Castle goes, what's the difference between Version K and Version M?
-
Be careful with that fliptop make sure!!! to put the spindle from the old ps2 in it. Cause not only did I forget which one of the cd's in that haunted castle collection was the game, I ruined one the music cd in it..... so i recently had to buy another copy still waiting on it. I don't need another copy of the game so if anyone is interested I'd be an US seller for a copy of it for not to much minus the bonus cds if you just want the ps2 game, let me know

Versions M and K are the US versions, with the latter being considerably easier, but still not as easy as the Japanese versions (N and T, which I haven't been able to find yet).
-
Yeah, I actually figured that out earlier today. Whoever decided the damage values for Version M must have been completely insane.
On a related note, goddam it took me forever to find out I needed to download a completely different Cheats file for MAME 0.128
