Didn't see this mentioned in the OoE spoiler thread, so I figured I'd create a new one here. This thread has some major spoilers about the game, so don't read further if you haven't played through this far in the game! (Or do anyway if you just don't care :)
Danielle, the old lady in the village, says that her grandfather is buried in the chapel on Oblivion Ridge. As we know she's of Belmont lineage, just who is buried there?
I'm thinking this might be Richter's grave. This might also help date the game.
Danielle says she is 85 years old.
Richter is 25 years old in the radio show, so he would have been about 19 in 1792 when he defeated Dracula (estimating the show takes place in 1798 - but it could take place later...).
My guess is Richter had a kid in 1793. He was old enough to marry Annette, and I think it's safe to say he didn't waste TOO much time creating an heir for the Belmont line. But it's also possible he had a son after the radio show, pending a translation (let's say 1800).
In any event, we can add Danielle's age to the suspected year that Richter became a father and then add 20 for a crack at the date of the game. We'll get something like 1897-1905 as the dates (with 1792 as the absolute earliest), both of which match the technology in the village (portable camera and disc-based record player - an argument that is somewhat faulty due to the 'but it's just a videogame and we don't have to care about historical accuracy' argument).
1897 is also the date given by Bram Stoker for his novel... That would suggest a rewrite of the timeline, making it not that great, but it stands that the date is plausible. However, you'd also think Albus would have had a better pistol if this was the turn of the century...
Granted, this is just speculation. I think it's suggested that Richter is buried on Oblivion Ridge, as he's the only other character we know, and that would make for the simplest solution. But he doesn't have to be.
It's also interesting to note that Danielle did some monster hunting with her husband. There's another game suggested there.
Any thoughts on this - particularly 'who is buried on Oblivion Ridge'?
Edit: Let me add to this that this theory is basically assuming:
1. That Danielle's grandfather is Richter.
2. That IGA was observant enough to make the technology historically accurate.
3. That Richter had a kid shortly after defeating Dracula.
Again, plausible, but currently not provable.

You're reading far too deep into what's presently a random plot device in a silly sidequest given by a character from a token subcast (lol Belmont jewelers and bakers).
-
altho i like that theory alot, it could by plausable or just it happened that way. however thats some nice thinking there, i'm sure iga will have to place ooe on the new timeline anyways

Don't forget another important piece of evidence. Chainsaws were developed around 1830.
-
then if you want to consider castlevania 64, where the chainsaw was mounted to the bone, is that the same issue with the butchers? if so it'd make a extremely heavy chainsaw pheasable depending if the weilder was heavy in stature
-
yeah, especially because
robotic axe-wielding tin-man with an emergency turret built into it!
existed since late 1700s. :o
-
The difference between Tin Men etc and a camera is that all this stuff is inside Dracula's Castle, presumably through black magic. It's the same reason why we accept the fact that vampires and werewolves exist for the sake of the story. The camera and record player, on the other hand are used by normal people. That goes against the normal elements of the universe, so they're either ignoring it or didn't think to check, or it happens after they were invented.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who thought it was awkward to come across Leatherface, Swamp Thing, and the Undertaker in a Castlevania game.

But you must to know that the oldest one on the village is Father Nikolai, so, he's the more direct Belmont descendant. His last name is surely Belmont.
So, Nikolai and Danielle must to be sieblings.
BTW, if Albus said they were all direct descendants of belmonts, so, do they have the Belmont last name?
-
albus said they were just descentants.
and what makes you think they're siblings? we know only few offshot families, i mean we have larneds (renards), ricardos (lecardes), morrises, the non canon shneiders etc. but the belmonts were known since late 1000.
since then they had to have many daughters, each of them creating a new offshot family, and having daughters themselves, spreading the belmont blood thin, but even farther.
by the 1800s there had to be at least few hundred different belmont offshot families.
-
Dracula's worst nightmare; everyone has Belmont blood.
-
Yeah that's horrible, too much Belmonts. i really would like that Lecarde's and Morri's are not descendants, just another hunters families.
And, lok out, Nikolai is the founder of the Village, and Danielle is the oldest. So, they came to the village at the begining, so, they must to be relatives, or sieblings in a radical way.
-
Well, I suppose it would also depend on how much Belmont blood is needed. Does it have to be a direct descendant, or can a Belmont cousin carry on the tradition? I guess you wouldn't know until you felt the VK sucking away your life :) My guess is it has to be within a few generations or the spirit just gets too diluted.
Additionally, after 1000 years, there HAD to have been a female Belmont - it's inconceivable (even for the realm of fiction :P) that the family could produce a male heir every time for that long a period to carry on the name. There's going to be a time when there simply aren't any sons and so a daughter has to wield the whip.
-
this is weird, is danielle and daniela the same?
while taking up quests she mentioned first that she and her grandfather used to go to the Lighthouse?? then mentioned that her grandfather is now resting at the waterfall at tristis pass? then oblivion ridge's church?? how many grandfathers does she have?? that knocked me out weirdly... if im wrong what's the difference between Resting Place and Burial Place? i know BURIAL is where you are buried... but doesn't that mean resting place as well?? :(
-
Wasn't she talking about her husband? The two of them liked to visit the Falls, didn't they? That's where you get the ring.
-
I refuse to believe that Aeon is a Belmont.
I also think it would be a bit weird if all the main characters of CV were related somehow. "The Six Degrees of Leon Belmont," that would just be creepy.
That's why I'm kinda glad that CV Legends was retconned. Alucard as the Belmonts' ancestor... do not want.

oh there were. that's why there are those branched clans like renards, morrises etc. :o

I'm pretty sure there had to have been at least one female Belmont to wield the whip. But I'll bet you that female Belmont had a brother. That's right, every Belmont to carry on the family name had a male heir.
If the heir to the Belmont legacy was female, her children (and every "Belmont" to be descended thereafter) would not have the last name "Belmont." Unless the father was a deadbeat dad and didn't stick around to raise his own children, in which case all bets are off.
-
wow i guess everybody is talking about the villagers and the one that has a belmont bloodline XD it's really weird to be anybody than daniela, (or danielle) why could she be it?
well i wouldn't say she is of belmont, she could be of any clan, like morisses, renards, or any other else, but from what i have read in wikipaedia that OoE was set after SOTN after 1800's so at that time alucard is asleep (not knowing of Ecclesia) richter might have been dead but had some descendants and so daniela mentioned to Shanoa that she and her grandfather (whoever that guy is) took some monster hunting and PRACTICE (specially at the tristis pass) so, it might be that she was supposed to be the next heroine for the belmont and the new castlevanian heroine as well, but the fact that she's almost 90 years old she wasn't aware about the coming of dracula and also the betrayal of barlowe to shanoa and albus :D i hope it makes perfect sense...
