So I got the chance to play Street Fighter 4 yesterday and it is awesome! It's very fluent, it looks gorgeous and is fun as hell.
I didn't try any of the new characters, cause I don't really care about them, but I did play as Sagat and Vega, and they both play great. The characters move fairly fast paced, which I like and the fights pretty long, which is also great. The Machine I played had 3 KO victories, instead of the normal 2. It's all around a great game!
So, if you live in or around Philadelphia, 44th and Spruce (West Philly, University City), theres an arcade, check it out

I believe you.
Though I'm a bit concerned about that Seth fellow.. He seems a bit unbalanced, but maybe his devastating cyclone-ish special attack is blockable or something? Looks like a goddamned Squeenix summon!

He can't be any worse than Krizalid from KoF '99. That guy was just a beast that could read your controls like no one elses business.
-
Yeah, Krizalid was truely a beast but he has got nothing on Orochi. I'll have to look up more on this Seth guy, I've haven't heard much on him.
-
It is awesome. I occasionally play it at the Family Fun Arcade. Zangief is supreme.
-
What a about the music?
Remixes of classic tracks or what?
-

Yeah man...i remember he would stay on the opposite side of the screen, crouching...just waiting for me to attempt to attack him so can catch me with his boot and slam me to the floor.
Man i can wait for SFIV...i think i might enjoy playing with that Abel fellow, i've liked what i've seen so far in game play vids. Also,i don't like Seth at all, he's just so unoriginal. First of all he looks like Gill...why! Aren't clothes intmidating any more? Also, he doesn't have any original move outside from his super. If you've seen the new character trailer for him, he has Guile's sonic boom, Dhalsim's stretchy arms, Urien's shoulder tackle, Chun-li's lighting kick, a fucking shoryuken(and says it too), and he combines Ryu's Shin-Shoryuken with Atomic Buster for his other super (although that is kinda bad-ass). Shit at least Gill was red and blue with long glowing hair....Seth is just some bland grey.
Oh well, iv'e see him get his ass handed to him in the arcade on many occasions.

I couldn't really hear the music well enough to tell what it was, there were lots of people and music playing loud
-

Krizalid and Orochi are a real pain, but certainly not the pinnacle of SNK Boss Syndrome. Try Rugal from KOF '94, or Igniz from KOF 2001.
Back to the topic: I haven't played SFIV yet, and I didn't think much of it. (I'm looking forward to other fighting games such as BlazBlue or Arcana Heart 2.) But now that Dan, Sakura, and Rose are in it, I guess I'll check it out.
-
Now that both Cammy and FeiLong are in the home versions, I hope they'll add Deejay and T Hawk too.. Not that I ever used those characters back in the day, but I think they belong here.

Arcana Hearts 2 sucks!I've never played the first one, but there was a machine of 2 at the same arcade I was at. Easyiest and dumbest fighting game ever. I hate the character artwork there was nothing special about, I felt dirty playing it, but we were bored and thought we'd try it. You should seriously reconsider looking forward to SF4 more than Arcana Heart 2!
Blazblue, however, looks like it'll be good. I love Guilty Gear, probably my favorite fighting game, and since it's the same team I'm sure it'll be good.

Fei Long is in the home version!? AHH MUST BUY!

Of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But "easiest and dumbest fighting game ever"? I truly hope that statement was just a hyperbole, because there are fighting games out there that are much easier (for instance, Pocket Fighter/Super Gem Fighter Mini Mix, great game) and much, much dumber. (Street Fighter the Movie, anyone?)
Arcana Heart is known for having a steep learning curve, so I don't expect anyone to simply pick it up and play decently. (Anyone new to the game would think the characters are too slow and clunky.) I personally love playing Arcana Heart 1, and I hear that Arcana Heart 2 is miles better than the first, so... there you go.

well...i usually don't like to start flaming subjects but...let's start...
SF4 is a piece of crap, compared to SF3 3RD St. , the gameplay doesn't run smoothly, new characters seen cheap imitations and cheap themselves...Reminds me of the EX ones...i hate that kind of graphics, just like Soul Calibur and Dead or Alive (3D Castlevania's?), SF seens to be taking the wrong path in evolution.
Not to mention the idea of "age", if there's such thing in the mind of the designers, and the cliche "catching" phrases...
As a long life arcade gamer, i saw SF born and wish to see it die, while it still has its dignity, since 3RD Strike was an excellent game.
My rating:
Graphics: 3.5/5
Gameplay: 2/5
Sound & Music: 2/5
Controls: 2/5
Innovation: 1/5
Funness: 1/5

I'm playing Street Fighter 14 years and i was used to be the local champion on my neighborhood. SF3 3RD St is a spin off and i didn't like at all. From the ex series, i only liked the first one.
Now, for the new one, i haven't play it, but i really like those graphics and it is officialy the continuation of the original series. These for now. I want say anything else, until i play it for my self.
-
The home versions got roughly 24 playable characters. I WANT.
EDIT: Supposedly, Rose is confirmed. Make it 25, maybe?
-
Ive yet to play SF4 (arcades are extinct around here) but to date 3rd Strike is my fav SF ever no contest.
-
I enjoy 3rd Strike for it's gameplay. I think it's fun and deep, but it doesn't feel as much like Street Fighter.
I absolutely hate 3rd Strike for its characters! They got rid of all the awesome characters and replaced them with ones that I don't care about and just aren't as cool as the classic ones.
But not a bad game.

And the funny thing is, some of the new characters play like permutations of the older ones. Remy has some of Guile's moves, Necro is kinda like Dhalsim, etc. Why couldn't they have just kept the old characters in if they were gonna do that?
I agree though, 3rd Strike DOES have awesome gameplay and it's a lot of fun.
-
Sf3 was intended to be a new era in the sf series which is why the game was originally not goin to have Ryu and Ken, but rather an entire new cast of characters.
Sean was originally goin to be the only Shouken person in the title
It is like Namco's Tekken 3 and snk's mark of the wolf
sf 4 is an odd game since it is the only non spinoff sf game to have its roster with characters from a previous title.
imo l think sf4 should have been an alpha sequel or a new spinoff since it is mostly appears to be one.
The game is between 3 and 2, the entire original and some of the new chal sf2 cast are in teh game, along with a few alpha, several dead characters, n new characters.
-
So, I hear good things about these Street Fighter 4 sticks they're making. Does anyone know anything about them?
-
Looks like a great game! Can't wait to pick this up when it comes out in feb here. For now I'll have to track down an arcade, anybody know of any that carry the game in dallas tx?
Now that both Cammy and FeiLong are in the home versions, I hope they'll add Deejay and T Hawk too.. Not that I ever used those characters back in the day, but I think they belong here.
are they gonna be in the pc one too? I agree they belong in the game just like the original 8. I hope they are all in the Pc release as that's the one I'll be getting so I can play it with the best graphics possible.

I would be really surprised if they took any of the characters out of the PC version, there's really nothing to gain if they do that so I don't see why that would happen

Please be aware that I have never been a Street Fighter fan, so don't expect much praise in this post should you wish to proceed.
I do not understand gamers who enjoyed the SF III titles. I don't get it at all because at the time of the first one's release, the Street Fighter fans I knew and was friends with did not look upon it favorably. Either they were puzzled at having to adapt to a new system that according to them had taken a step backwards in terms of play control, or they gave up to instead focus on the familiar styles of the Capcom Versus installments, to say nothing of faithful players who had just given up waiting for the blasted third part by the time it finally saw the light of day. Based on my own experiences with the SF III games, it did feel odd since the refined animation packed so many frames into each movement that attacks came out somewhat more slowly. And with the advent of Parrying (the feature that would make or break the deal for most SF-goers in Part III) lag-time in moves meant surefire beatdowns for those of us who never got into the play-style of Street Fighter.
Don't get me wrong, SF III did pave the way for great Capcom titles to come like the Marvel vs. Capcom and Capcom vs. SNK entries. But dang was it forgettable. There was not one character that felt good to play in the entire lineup. So Second Impact comes along... Like, one new character and they call it an upgrade? No thanks. Some time later after I've grown quite adept and fond of both Cap vs. SNK 2 and SF EX, I notice Third Strike. People are pounding the hell of it, so I figure it must be the definitive Part III to play. Well.... Damn. Chun-Li *is* back. But unfortunately that's about as original as it gets. And Gouki finally makes his return. Sweet! Umm, except... NOT. By this time, the raging demon has been so whittled down to near useless that a former secret boss has now become a challenge to PLAY! Man, that ain't right.
Now... SF IV... We shall see. Thus far it looks innovative, fresh in its own way. If only there could be *some* attempts made at brand new characters. Come on! Is it really so hard to come up with ideas in the LONG STRETCH OF TIME IT TAKES to develop the next sequel? Urrgh!!
*launches a Shakunetsu hadouken at post before stomping out in a huff*

Well, Akuma was in Second Impact. He was a secret character in it, and the funny thing is, he was top tier (#1 character to use) He's still pretty good in 3S though, 'cept yes you had to play him well, and about the EX series I kind of liked them, but, they were never developed by Capcom. Akira developed them, Capcom just published 'em.
I'm more of a fan of the traditional SF's but I have emulated pretty much all of the Marvel games to mess around with. CVS1 and 2 are great.

Most super hardcore SF fans like Super Street Fighter II Turbo and hold that up as the definitive tournament-worthy game in the SF series, but I've always thought it was kind of dull. Playing the game by yourself is only slightly more fun than having the Declaration Of INdependence tattooed on your gums and I've always thought it was kind of a lazy cash-in on Capcom's part when they should have just moved on after SSF2.
3rd Strike is a fun game, plain and simple. Maybe it's not the best, most balanced game in the series, but it's definitely one of the most fun. The graphics are great, the music is well done, the controls are tight, and the characters are somewhat interesting, rather than being just a group of random martial arts masters. They certainly could hav eused more development, but it's a fighting game not Final Fantasy.

I agree SSF2 was the pinnacle we didn't need another turbo game though I love Gouki. He was badass. The requirement to fight him was ridiculous considering ss2turbo's difficulty. just finishing it w/out a continue is hard enough, three perfects is too much. i can do that in WW or Champion edition and regular SSF2 but doing it in SS2T is ludicrously hard.

In regards to the III series, I thought the first two were intriguing, but not spectacular. HOWEVER, 3rd Strike just made everything click. 3rd Strike's my favorite Street Fighter because of its fluid gameplay, slick presentation, and variety of opponents and level paths. (The only thing it's missing are the transforming levels from III: The Second Impact). Street Fighter Alpha 3 is my second favorite, and then probably Super Street Fighter 2.
Street Fighter IV is a strange animal. It looks like it'll be OK, but it almost looks like "Street Fighter: Fan Tribute" or something. It's supposed to take place between II and III, yet has a number of Alpha Series characters (miraculously back from the dead or not aged), and basically reintroduces every character from the Street Fighter II era (excluding maybe T. Hawk?). I can't believe they want to say this makes sense continuity-wise. But, I won't worry about that. I just think it doesn't make sense to disregard Street Fighter III and try to make what is, above everything else it seems, another expansion/redux of the redone-to-death Street Fighter II.
There was no need to bring back so many old characters...except maybe to cover up for the average nature of most of 4's small new cast. (Even the EX series fighters were more inspired than the new fighters of IV).
I think the best thing would have been to build off of 3rd Strike's cast: Keep Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, and Akuma from the old II series; add the story-important/definitive characters of III which are Alex, Sean, Ibuki, Elena, and Urien; then, if need be, add a few more classic characters that fit in the time frame, and finally STACK IT with fresh faces to make it a new experience.
Despite the ups and downs of the III series, it tried to bring a new, fresh feel to Street Fighter, just as II did to #1, and the Alpha series did to II. As it is, I don't think IV is being bold enough to define itself.

You should see how Gen looks when you say no one has aged. Sakura is a bit thicker, even though she still uses her school girl outfit as her fighting one. I think 4 is only 2-4 years after II or something, and I'm damn excited to get the game. Hoping I can get a jorb and get the Tournament Stick (only available in America, and I can't order online just yet, lacking a credit card or a working paypal is shitty.)
Anyway, when this drops, I'll be nabbing the LE and stick swift as fack.
3S/SSF2T CvS2 and Alpha 2 are my favorites, but I actually dislike A3 a lot. The flow of the game is horrible. Anyway, you guys should get GGPO, I'm gonna bump the thread so you guys can see it.

Hey man!
I wish I could use GGPO. None of the online gaming clients are Mac friendly. :(
Which system do you play it on and what kind of stick are you looking at getting? I'm actually thinking about getting a stick myself, but I'd be using it on my comp.

I concur. I liked how the sf series was realistic whereas in each tournment, there are a lot of new ppl in the fray.
Until Sf4, there was no numbered sf title with more than 4 characters from the previous games.
Sf2 had ken, ryu and sagat from sf1. sf3 had Akuma, ryu, ken, and chunli from sf2. Sf4 is like the namco games were almost everyone from sf2 returns.
Sf4 seems fanfarish to me, which is a bit of a disappointment. I wished they focused more on the new ppl rather than the sf2 cast. It is obvious that the new characters deisgns aren't as great as the previous character designs in the older sf games.
Too bad they had to call this game sf4 as oppose to something like Street fighter Gamma or sf2.5.
-
anybody thinks it is strange that only Dan has shown physical changes when compared to the other returnin cast in sf4?
I mean, the other alternations we see on folks like Ryu and Gouken are artist alternations as in they are depicted like that because of style. However, Dan is the only one who is drawn with a different body.

Now if only SNK can make another seqeul to The Last Blade series *dreams*
-
Man, each time I see screens for this game, I get ecstatic. I can't wait for this game to come out.
-
I wish I had the money for a 360 cause I'd buy one for SF4 and STHD. I don't even like ST that much, but I'd buy it if it meant i could play online.
-
Dan is supposed to be a complete joke, so why not his art too?
Also, great pic thar, Jorge
-
Is it possible Capcom went into the future to see that pic, and returned to the past just to create Dan off of it?
..yeah, that's exactly what happened.

Because i didn't find a Super Street Fighter IV threat, i'll post the new info in here. Well as some people should know Arcade Edition was released not long ago, adding Yun and Yang to the rooster and several rumours about more addictions, well... last night at Arcade Infinity were revealed Evil Ryu and Oni, Here you can check some footage of them: Oni Akuma vs. Evil Ryu SSFIV AE Chinatown Fair (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Bd87spTdKc#ws) and iplaywinner has a review and analysis of the characters: http://iplaywinner.com/news/2011/1/22/exclusive-oni-akuma-and-evil-ryu-media-move-sets-impressions.html (http://iplaywinner.com/news/2011/1/22/exclusive-oni-akuma-and-evil-ryu-media-move-sets-impressions.html)
All the new AE content will probably be available for the console version as DLC later this year...
