Bought it and imo, l wished they inserted more frames since it looks like a flash vers of sf2.

Just seems bizarre that the company said they will not add more frames so as to keep it like the old super sf2 tubro title; they do not want to mess with the combos yet they later made this version different than the old ver with new moves and such.  So it doesnt seem logical

I tired out the demo and man, it felt completely unfinished. Your exactly right le052, the characters look like they are missing pieces of animation when they do their moves, and the soundtrack isn't that great. Capcom...why...

AFter playin the game for a day, l have to say that the udon art is okay, though not as good as everyone makes it out as.

I mean, there are some inconsistenitices in scale (cammy is az tall as Bision) some of the art is too distractin with the pen lines (akuma is a good example.)

the scale of the characters may probably be the old games fault because I heard that backbone didn't want to alter the actual hitboxez.

Even so, the background character are not scaled right.  The guy sittin in Brazil seems to be depicted in a larger proportion than the sprie characters like Guile.

I think if the game was drawn more like Guilty Gear, it would not be an eye sore.  It hurt my eyes since the more monster lookin characters have a lot of sharp lines that do not blend with the other colours on the sprite. It seems that there is a point in why companies colour their fightin game sprites different than anime or comics.

I honestly don't believe the game is worth what capcom is askin for, but it is a good game to get if you are a fan of the sf2 franchise.

AS for the new music, it is bad since it is not done by a professional, but by ppl on the web. Playin other capcom games, I would have preferred if the music were all high energy like super was to the first sf2 title.  However, you get a combinition of slow and cultural music spiced into the game

You weren't specific in what we can and cannot say here.   :P

I think it's a decent remake, but a bit pricey for what it is.

$10 woulda been more appropriate, especially since we've all played this before.

The graphics look a little out of sync in parts, but it still looks mostly better than the original. What gets me is that the classic mode retains the new backgrounds, and as a result it just looks like ass with the old sprites on top of it all.

The new soundtrack remixes were catchy, but I think Ryu's theme still hasn't received the justice it deserves. But overall not bad stuff.

I too am disappointed they didn't use more frames. These sets are 15 years old -- 15! I mean -- what -- did IGA lend his hand here?

A few years ago people paid 50$ for anniversary edition, that was just SSF2T repackaged ('cept you can pick any version of a character.) with 3rd Strike. I think the 15$ or whatever it is is a great price.

The tracks are from a video game music site, VGmusic.com or something random like this. It's all fan made.

They didn't use more frames because they didn't want the game play to change drastically, they kept it mostly true to the original 'cept for the slight tweaks and changes to the characters.

I use a original Xbox pad to play on GGPO, it does suck but I do alright. Is the 360 D-pad worse than the original Xbox D-pad? They did make it easier to do some moves, though. Pre-order the SF4 Arcade Stick or nab one of the gamepad's being released for it! That D-pad is in Saturn style. I need money >.>.

I must say I enjoyed the bonus game where you have to destroy an M1 Abrams within 30 seconds, that's hard as heck but is a cool addition to the game.

Adding frames in a game like this changes the timing of moves drastically. Simply adding a couple frames can change how a character plays entirely. It sounds ridiculous, but you should check out some of the fighting game forums. THey have guys crunching frame data; it gets pretty crazy!

I guess the point of the game was simply to give it a facelift, which they've done pretty well.

IMO this is one of the least fun SF games if you have to play it alone. The computer is set to "Rape" pretty much all the time.  :P

Or they can add in-betweens with no changes to the hitbox/mask. It'd play the same.

It would though, unless you're talking about something else than what I think you're talking about.

See, Ken & Ryu's Dragon Punch for example is invulnerable until the 5 or 6th frame. If they were to add frames to the move so that it was invincible until the 9th or 10th frame, it would change the timing needed to execute and also to beat the move, hence changing the game, which is something they apparently didn't want to do.

Do you get what I mean or have I misunderstood you?

I didn't think I'd have to be so specific based on the fact that I didn't post a review in my initial post. Even if I did make the topic title "Anyone wanna play SSf2THDR?" People would still come in here and review the game like they did already.

You're right. I should know how this community works by now.

Yeah..this community is odd since they would disect any game wheather or not you intend for it to happen.

They can add more frames to the animation and make the animation faster so that the 9th frame will be at the same time as the 5th frame or something. The timing to do things can be kept the same, if they double the animation frames and just speed up the animation retaining the same hitboxes and etc that it'd have if it was the original.

I never understand why companies say it isn't possible since common sense would say to make the animation faster to make it the same as the original.

The backgrounds for this ver has less animation than the original and when there is animation, it is slower.  Appears that Backbone mentions framrate so as not to add more work in makin the animation smoother.

Understood. But I think since there are people in the fighting game communities who actually crunch data FRAME BY FRAME, they chose to leave that alone. That and they didn't want to change much dealing with the gameplay itself.

I've heard the hitboxes are kinda screwy though. Like that some characters no longer have a behind-the-head hitbox, thus crossups can be nigh impossible for certain characters. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Well, there's the issue that the old sprites had out of whack anatomy that would look horrible with the the high res art. That might be a reason.

I was thoroughly disappointed with this, myself.  I mean, the changes were minor, even for a Street Fighter II upgrade.

My particular beef were the animations, because I don't think Udon's work compares to the original sprites.

For instance, Ryu's original standing sprites, and the new ones drawn by Udon.  They stayed far too close to the original specs, so the Shotos' standing looks incredibly odd-looking because the belt randomly jumps around.  The animations have been made even more dated in appearance thanks to this folly.

Another beef is the mismatch of styles.  In the foreground, we have two canyon-muscled Guiles standing against a backdrop with... Anime-faced characters present?  How the heck does that match a general style?

To top it off, a lot of the backgrounds lost their luster.  For instance, originally, Dhalsim's stage had only two elephants trumpeting in the background.  Only two, and the rest would pipe up in order when a player won the match.  But instead, Udon decided to make Street Fighter II look even more dated by having every character and object in the background animated at the same time.

Street Fighter II HD Remix's only shining point is the netplay.  Other than that, everything else is "Been there, done that so many times".

Yes, the hitboxes ARE kind of nuts.  I think in some cases they're even out of scale!

Some games (I think Turbo and Super and Super Turbo) have more rows of elephants than two, from what I recall... but yeah they were on  different layers so they'd animate differently.

You're saying the Remix's animations for the elephants are flat... as in, they all trumpet at the same time?  That's pretty weird.

I would've imagined one big hall of elephants, hahah.

The elephants are layered, but their animation is purely haphazard.  No synchronization to the programmed trumpet sounds.  Plus, only the two in the far background would pipe up during the match, only when someone won the match, would they all be trumpeting.  Even then, it'd be in order and syncronized.

Yeah man. The 360 d-pad is utter trash for HDRemix. I think buying a stick is pretty much necessary. I haven't played it on the 360 myself yet, but everyone says what you did about the pad.

The game is definitely a blast. I've been playing the crap out of it lately. I finally got up to Akuma as Vega and it took me like 40 times to beat him  >:( However, those 40 tries raised my skill greatly!

The 150$ tournament edition one is made from arcade quality parts. If you were to play on a SF4 cabinet it would be using that exact same stick that the tournament edition is.

The 80$ one (fightstick) is better than the SF anniversary edition, tekken 5 stick and hori sticks.

You're gonna have to Ebay it now. They stopped pre-orders in America quite a while ago, stopped on the few sites that were selling them as well, then pre-orders opened up here in Canada for like 4-6 days then they sold out here in that time. I'm hoping to nab a standard edition stick for 69.99 for PS3, hoping the EBgames around here get some.

Anniversary Edition retailed at $30, and even at that it was overpriced IMO.  I got it as a gift, but knowing the ridiculous difficulty curve, I would never have paid $30 for that steaming pile of poo.  I'll stick with the old console conversions.

Cool man, hope you can find it. Just know if the joystick part is "sticking" during use, that means it getting caught on a piece of metal on the inside. You can fix it yourself or return it for a new one, I'm hoping I get one that's not messed up like that, it's easy to fix but I'm sure I'd mess something up. Hoping to get an standard one tomorrow, if they get them in where I'm at (Canada)
