Like the Belmont poll, except without the whole lineage thing. And no, the N64 leads arn't in the poll, even if IGA pulled Cornell out of that retcon with Judgement.
-
Adrian Farenheights (spelling?) Tepes, a.k.a. Alucard hands down. He's the son of Dracula and if you ignore any special equipment and spells, he is clearly the strongest. Then again he is half-vampire so in terms of physical strength and overall endurance he is clearly superior to the human heros.
-
and then there's soma, who after losing himself in his hate required the combined efforts of 3 of the strongest people, alucard included to be defeated, when not even on full power. :o

Yet Soma's got Zip and Nathan Graves has 2. WTF?
-
i didn't vote, just replied. :(
-
So... Why post in a poll topic if you're not gonna vote?
-
Hector has/had great potential! He was under the tutelage of Count Dracula for a good while. They should reveal more of his background.
You didn't include Maxim on the list.
-
Because Maxim's a villain, not a lead. And if you're gonna support Hector, it may help to vote for him.
-
Shanoa. I'm too lazy to think of a reason on the spot other than the glyphs.
-
Shanoa.
About time we agreed on something.

forums are for discussions mainly, and that's what i did. i don't vote in polls at all unless there's a silly non fitting answer for the lulz.
for example if someone added a character everyone knew shuldn't appear there and make absolutely no sense like the chapel's signature werewolf answers.
-
i'm gonna say soma. not my personal favorite mind you, but he is essentially dracula, meaning he can use the powers of the most powerful entity known in the castlevania series.
-
I chose shanoa because of the abilities and her being emotionless which means no hesitation which is perfect for killing demonic beings.
-
By and far, Alucard. No question. Soma and Hector each may have been powerful in their own right, and they may even try to emulate the son of Dracula's in look, hair and fashion sense. But in the end, each gave up their accumulated power at the conclusion of their respective adventures. - Soma's Power of Dominance being put to rest, and Hector forfeiting his abilities over Devil Forgery. Meanwhile, Alucard retained every ability, discipline, and experience from his personal battle against his father. And come on. - At Level 99 with the biggest sword in existence and the toughest magic backing him up, who's you're real daddy CastleVania? ^_^
-
AL, the ultimate in Badassness.

so because their powers go inert, they're weaker? sounds like some shitty ass logic to me. if you've got draculas power, regardless of how often you use it, you've got draculas power.
-
Shanoa or Soma? Shanoa or Soma? AAARRRGHHH!!!! Oh...What the heck I chose Shanoa.
-
Simple... Soma Cruz
-
I chose Shanoa.
-
Soma Cruz
-
Alucard
-
Eric is awesome
-
I would think that Morrises & Lecardes would be excluded from the list from their blood ties to the Belmonts. I'd say it's a tie between Alucard, Soma, and Shanoa.
-
I picked Pumpkin.
He may look cute, but he'll turn right around and bust a cap in yo' ass!
-- Blindfolded!
Don't mess with that little mofo.
-
Wheres... sypha?
-
Grant is also missing.
-
Maxim isn't on here for the same reason the Lecarde Sisters arn't on here. He's a villain durring the main game, and is thus disqualified.
No clue as to how I managed to forget Sypha and Grant, though. Oh well.
-

Maxim wasn't a villain entirely. He just went schizo.

Speaking of strength one thing that bugs me is Hector, how was he able to kill Dracula in the first place? He doesn't have any belmont blood, the whip or any relation whatsoever to him. I love the game but that didn't make any sense. There should have been a real explanation like OOE. Al is able to because of his blood relation, he wields the same power. The belmonts can because of their superhuman power. Nonbelmonts related by blood can because of the whip, but Hector is just out there. No explanation or anything. Does devil forgemastering utilize satan's power or something? I hope Iga explains this later. I mean Why would Dracula teach humans an art that would Jeopardize his thrown? Just doesn't Jive. Hector should have gotten help from Trevor or something.
I chose Shanoa.
But Shanoa wasn't able to damage him though,
SPOILER
she had to use his own power to kill him, and forfeight albus life.

Dracula was just resurrected when Hector fought him, so he was weak enough to be killed by him.

I could understand this logic if Dracula in the game wasn't so damn hard. He had 2 full forms and the second form is one of the hardest dracula forms out of any game with probably only COTM rivaling it in terms of sheer toughness. If dracula had only one form like OOE and then he died I could understand this being the case. But I think he displays way too much power to not be at his full power or close to it. The creature He turns into is a giant devil creature very similar to his final form in CVIII. I'll need to go back and scrutinize the fight and try to see if I can find some sort of an explanation because that's been driving me nuts for awhile now. I'm sure Iga has one, or it's there and I'm just not seeing it. Because creating a sequel to his favorite game and then screwing up dracula's power ranking wouldn't be the smartest thing to do.

Similarly, the Lecarde Sisters were under Brauner's Mind-Control. Still were villains.

Dude, it's best not to factor game-play elements into any CV story or plot context. - Credit for Drac's toughness in CoD goes to the programmers.

It's just weird how he transforms into his trademark demon creature thing in an incomplete phase.
-
Actually, on that subject, I always felt that Dracula could accomplish that by drawing his opponent into the chaos realm with him. I mean, Circle of the Moon, CV 64/Legacy, and even HoD had the final fights taking place on bizarre planes of some parallel dimension. In Portrait, Drac basically drew upon Death's power for the first time to achieve his demon form on the physical plane.
It's just a thought.

You're right I didn't think of that. Dracula may have moved the fight to a different realm because he couldn't truly manifest on the physical plane, not enough power or something. He might have been like half alive and half dead. I guess if dracula can truly manifest on the physical plane that represents his true power, (the 100 year cycle) when he goes to other realms that may represent his attempt to fight you with his true form in an incomplete weakened state not strong enough to manifest yet on earth. Makes sense, thanks for the rebuttal homes.

You're welcome, carnal.

Actually, his soul was using Issac's body as a vessel. So, he wasn't truly resurrected, however the explaination is that Dracula wasn't at his full power. After all, he does wonder if the transformation wasn't complete, which may explain why Dracula lacks his full power.
-

That's probably just another way for him to be revived.

I agree. I think the factor was time. He hadn't been dead long enough to bring his true self into the physical realm. He had to fight Hector in a diff. realm that he was able to maintain the form in. As a result it was way weaker.

And of course if Hector was weaker against Dracula that would make Dracula appear harder...

True dat.

The 'alternate dimension battle' was also present in Rondo and DXC. Those were 100 year cycle games if I am not mistaken.

True, maybe in that game dracula just chooses to move locations. Unless Richters just taking some special "enhancements" during the fight. Or this might be why Shaft has such an easy time ressurrecting him and taking control of Richter, may have all been part of drac's plan to get rid of the belmont clan.
-
After failing so much, Dracula probably tried that thinking it would make him strong enough to kill Richter.
-
. . . . Well, not to add to the mounting pile of conundrums here, but... Why then, if the 100 year cycle was complete and all, why was Drac such a predictable pushover in Rondo? Even his second form could be toppled by a couple of crucifix chucks to the head. What the fuck, D-Man?

Because it was classic Dracula in a classic CV game.
it's best not to factor game-play elements into any CV story or plot context.
-
Oh gimmme a break. Drac was able to actually kill you before you stood a chance against him in CV 1/CV III/Haunted Castle and even the Game Boy games. I stand by my statement from 20 years ago... Death should NOT be more difficult to best than Dracula!
-
Well, it was RoB, which is the easiest classic CV. Dracula was one of the easier bosses, though...but DXC made up for it with his 3rd form.

Pffffffffffft. Super CV IV is easier than RoB, imo.

Well, SCVIV was longer and had death pits. :P

Rob level 7 takes a little time to master. Getting past the ascending and descending shafts with all those water creatures takes real skill.
...Really? It barely takes any skill. The level isn't really hard unless you're not very good at dodging enemy attacks.

SCVIV also lets you whip through platforms; hitting enemies before they even have a chance to see you.
I rank SCVIV higher than RoB, but it's not that hard really. Sure there are some parts like the twisting mansion and chandeliers where you have to be patient, but RoB has double-teaming great armors, a massive showdown with Shaft, and fleamen next to spike pits.

Easier enemies ≠ Easier game
Just like CV1 and CV3, the challenge of SCVIV is the level design(very good level design, while I'm at it). RoB's difficulty revolves around enemies, which aren't really that hard anyway.
Great Armors, Shaft, and Fleamen next to spike pits pale in comparison to SCVIV's dungeon.

The begining dodging the bats for one is not easy in my opinion, I can't see someone who's never played castlevania going in and doing that in one go without getting hit. And the vertical shafts are not easy either, you have to be fast and be like a terminator to not get hit. The knockback can really screw you over there.

Dodging the bats is hard, but the part with the water skulls isn't.

You're forgetting about the crumbling bridge and the close quarters combat with the knights in the rooms after the clocktower.

Uh, no.

that's one of the easier parts.

We've gotten horribly off topic here. Can we please get back on topic?

aw no one voted for Charlotte. I shoulda voted for her then. ;D she is more powerful than any Morris, that's for sure.

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh <_<;
You can't be serious.
Don't know John was pretty badass in his game. Was basically a one man army. Wouldn't surprise me if a belmont offed him and blamed it on "the whip" because he was too cool.
The same could be said of every other Belmont, except that they do a much better job at it.
-
Those barbarian Belmonts wish they could wear a skirt as well as she can. :U
-

Yeah that's pretty much established already. I was just sayin' hypothetically that he may have been killed for becoming too close to the belmont's power. Just a joke really. POR established the true reason.

A bit of a bump, one is aware, but Eric Lecarde was the only person to mine immediate drunken recollection that managed to defeat Dracula without use of a whip or powers inherited from Vlad Himself...
-
if you count eric as one to beat dracula, then maria beat him with doves, albus shot him dead, maxim killed him with a sword, and hell, even a weak axe armor killed him with a crappy axe.
tl'dr alternate modes don't count.
canonically it's john who beat dracula, eric was just there to help like maria in rondo.
it could be interpreted that he fought bartley trying to exact his revenge for killing his girlfriend while john went forward to fight drac himself. but that's just my imagination, there was no explaination for it other than 'lol extra modes don't count.'
-
Pumpkin is the strongest of them all.
-
As EGG-spected, mine drunken recollection proved false...
Eric still wins on eclecticism...
...a spear, in a platform game? What endurance...

Hey, Donatello had the bo staff in the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game on the NES, and it was the strongest freakin' weapon available.

Maxim wasn't a villain entirely. He just went schizo.
Actually, he was possessed by Dracula through the vulnerability created from frustration of envying Juste being considered a better vampire hunter.

He wasn't possessed by dracula, he was possessed by a evil spirit born in his body from his dark emotions and exposure to the magic of dracula's remains.
-

that was the excuse at the beginning, but at the end he goes "i don't need this body anymore, i have my body parts" and then the spirit somehow becomes dracula himself. :o

Yep, It appears that drac actually was the possesor at the end. He fed off of Maxims emotions to gain a foothold then takes his body completely over when the castle is resurrected.

I know I sound like an ass-hat saying this but when Last Belmont agrees with you, you know you're right!

That means next to nothing. Soma's power is limited and he lacks the fighting experience that Alucard has.
-
Alucard was trained as a knight, so he's probably a better swordsman than Soma, plus he doesn't have to worry about keeping his cool in order not to become true evil.
-
he doesn't have to worry about keeping his cool in order not to become true evil.
Are you sure about that? We don't know for a fact that Soma is destined to be the new dark lord. The prophecy only said that a new master (the next dark lord) would come to the castle in 2035. It never said that the new master would take power right away. Plus, both Soma and Alucard were there. Being Dracula's reincarnation doesn't mean that he is meant to become the dark lord. Alucard could just as easily be the dark lord. Soma may be destined to destroy the new dark lord, who could end up being Alucard. It's definitely going to be one of them.
You free to disagree with me, but this is just my opinion based on my understanding of the prophecy.
-
I'm gonna have to go with Soma, with Alucard close behind. Aeon is probably up there too.
-
Graves 8)
Cos he RULES
-
Eric Lecarde!!! :P It was fun and pretty good with that spear :) I'm sure i will enjoy another title with a character with the same gameplay :)

Actually, John Morris is a descendent of the Belmont family... did you have to include him here?
-
In Reply To #86
He doesn't carry the Belmont name, thus his inclusion. Same with Jonathan and, had he not been retconned, Reinhardt.
Although I DID forget to include Grant and Sypha... Whoops...
