A discussion about how Castlevania fans wanted a remake of Rondo of Blood were hot for a long time, before they finally released Dracula X Chronicles. Now that our wish was granted, what would your next wish be? :)
What Castlevania title would you like to see a remake of and why this specific title? And what changes should they do? Should they keep most of it as it was before, or should they retell the same story from another point of view? Or should they even switch between 2D and 3D?
Personally I'd like to see a remake of Harmony of Dissonance. I think the original is a fine game, but I can't help but feel that is was kinda ''sloppily'' made, considering the bright colours, the sprite animations, the soundtrack etc. The soundtracks are fine, but I'm sure we can all agree that we've heard better in Castlevania history.
Exactly HOW they should remake it I'm not sure. Juste Belmont have always been ony of my favorite Belmonts and I think it'd be really cool to see him in a 3D title. But if they were to make it 3D I'd want more variation between rooms and more puzzles and relic gathering, rather than bashing through hundreds of monsters. Juste's magic spells in 3D.. :''D Sweetness!

I want a Dracula's Curse remake. And I think it's the game that is most likely to get a remake, seeing how much IGA seem to like it.
I also would lke to see a Simon's Quest remake. It has so much potential to be remade into a Ecclesia-style DS-game or something with PROPER boss fights and such.
And then we have Castlevania Adventure and Belmont's Revenge. Not that I like the originals that much, but I feel they deserve to be retold with modern graphics. A Christopher Chronicles would be sweet.
Finally, I think Super Castlevania 4 deserves a remake. They wouldn't even have to change that much cause the game is already quite excellent as it is. Just tweaking and refining it a bit and I'd be pleased.
-
Dracula's Curse, being the best Castlevania, would be a great remake. I would love to see it in 3-D but I'm afraid they'd ruin it right now, maybe once they get that right.
Adventure and Belmont's Revenge would be nice too. They could put them together on one game. That would be a good 2.5-D game like DXC.
-
I don't mind 2.5D, as long as the characters and monsters are still 2D sprites. Environments and backgrounds etc are more than welcome to be made in 3D. The thing is I get the impression that 3D characters in a side-scrolling game are sorta.. slow. I've noticed this in MegaMan X8 and Maverick Hunter X and, I haven't actually played Dracula X Chronicles, but in the gameplay videos Richter look kinda slow and hard to control. So I personally prefer it with sprites with 3D environments/backgrounds.

It's not that hard once you get the feel of it.
A hi-res version of Belmont's Revenge would be sweet on psp!

cv3 baby!

Dracula's Curse, done Bionic Commando Rearmed style. Make it a downloadable 2D game, with the basic gameplay and feel remaining true to the original, but with hi-def graphics, tweaked gameplay and levels and maybe some new bosses.
...Oh, and have the characters keep their classic looks. No androgynous Trevor or Voldo DaNasty. Leave out the bishonen art stuff for a change.
-
CV 1-4, I would like to see remade.
-
CV3
-
I would say, it has to be between these four games...heck, make remakes on all four.
CVIII: Dracula's Curse
CVII: Simon's quest
CV: Harmony of Dissonance
CV: Bloodlines (My personal favorite)
...CV: Chronicles (not really...already a remake of the CV) XD
-
How about the two gameboy Castlevania games? CV Adventure and Belmont's Revenge. Not really my faves but I think it's interesting to see them in remake version.
-
I agree with most members here that Dracula's Curse would be a great remake.
I'd actually like to see Castlevania 2 as well though. Think about it: Redone soundtrack(more than one song for the mansions), a boss in every mansion, better lines for the townspeople(though the infamous "Death Star" woman can stay), SotN style graphics and landscape, new and greater varieties of monsters, and maybe some new abilities added to the weapons and Dracula relics/body parts. Simon already levels up after a while, and I guess that could be modernized like the current Castlevania's, as well as the whole map thing.
It'd be cool since that game is really the first "metroidvania" when you look at it.
-
Dracula's Curse for the WIN, but a retooling of Simon's Quest has epic potential. Personally, I think we'll see maybe one more remake before the 1999 game and sometime later --a full series reboot.
-
Perhaps a Castlevania 1+2 type thing. One half of the game depicts Simon's first foray and the second half depicting Simon's Curse, finding the body parts, and killing Dracula once again.
That'd also work fine for the Adventure Belmonts too.
-
remake simon's quest
the game didn't fit up much with the over cv's.
-
CV: Harmony of Dissonance
HOD? Yeah I can see that, that game was stupid easy and the plot was too bland.

I find this one to be a cool idea. I personally would want a Castlevania 3 remake but this one actually seems pretty cool.

The only game that actually needs a remake is Simon's Quest. A lot can be done to that game. Aside from new graphics(No older-than-the-internet RoB/SotN graphics like everyone seems to want. They've been used enough! Some actual new graphics, please!) and remixed music, the mansions can be longer, better designed, and each mansion can have different music and a boss. The townspeople can also talk like normal, sane, and educated people.
Some things can stay like level 5 being the limit, classic controls(same old CV1/CV2/CV3/etc style), and lack of abilities like the double jump. Having the mobility of a character like Alucard and a double jump would just ruin the game.
Also, a Haunted Castle remake would probably be good.

I think Simon's Quest is pretty much perfect, the only thing that needs to be changed is a tougher dracula fight and it would be cool if his castle had a sort of aura around it preventing anything from getting near and entering and thus forcing you to get the magic cross to pass it. This would also help explain why it's so empty.
-
I'd like to see some new people (yes...I'm talking about a Western developer) do some work on it to see a fresh take that still respects all of the cliche's of CVII & CVIII. You probably got the idea by now mimic the tactics CAPCOM and GRIN did when they made BCR. (kinda off topic, but probably one of the best semi-original downloadable console title, to date, until IGA gets the right idea.)
-
Dracula's Curse.
Dracula's Curse.
Did I mention Dracula's Curse? Seriously, Dracula's Curse, thank you.
-
After seeing CoD, I fear the hand of IGA at the helm of CVIII. Though he did an alright job staying true to RoB.
CVII, I think every mansion should not have a boss. The empty mansions add to the sense of a decrepit Dracula. Empty mansions, cryptic clues, some creepy townsfolk all contribute to the general atmosphere -- an unnerving sense Dracula's Riddle is impossible. But they can make the bosses just a bit tougher.

I just want a game with Simon, it should be a total remake with diolog and new enemys also it should be a metroidvania i know alot of people dont like them but i do, i think it ads somuch fun wen u have to sit ther looking at the ledge thats a foot to high until you get the freakin double jump, thats one of the reasons i think SoTN was so fun, i think this game should really let us get to know Simon more, hes never had dialog except for a little in Simon's quest. for Simon him self I think they need to ditch the short shorts if Leon was around a 100 years befor Simon and he had pants than Simon should have pants, he kinda needs to look like a mix of chronicles (arranged) and judgement, the black leather and fire engine hair which i know is not very realistic but Juste having snow white hair long befor the envention of hair dye isnt either.
-
also it should be a metroidvania
No, no, no, and

Making it a hemorrhoidvania would destroy the game, and it's not only because we've had so many. Simon should not have the mobility of a character like Alucard, Simon should not be able to double jump, and Simon should not be able to level up past 5. Just NO.

Isn't Chronicles already fairly close to a Metroidvania?

You haven't at least seen a video of it, let alone played it, have you?

Nah, just screens. I don't own a Playstation. :-X

Chronicles is just good old fashioned level based goodness!

It was at the time.
Anywho, I still think a Metroidvania of 1 and 3 would be cool. Hell, a ZeldaVania would be cool, too.
-
I'm all for a metroidvania, IF they make some major changes. The metroidvania is an alright concept - and perhaps they could work on it a little and bring it to the next level. I'm not sure exactly how though at this point. First of all, they should make some new graphics from scratch. I mean.. there are skeleton sprites in the newer games that they've used in Dracula X for SNES. It'd be nice to see some updates.
Or perhaps they could make a game with a similair concept to Dracula's Curse, where you can choose a path, find new characters, etc.

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeellllllllllll no. that would be completely gay. They'd have to completely redesign the games from the ground up. Way to short as they are for that to work. I think the Drac x chronicles treatment is all that needs to be done to 1 and 3 at the most.
-
I cant remember if I replied to this thread or not already and if I did I more than likely said CV2 since thats my fav CV and also the one Ive actually started remakin a few times over the years but thinkin about it more Id prolly have to say Belmonts Revenge is the one Id like to see remade the most

Dracula's Curse.
Dracula's Curse.
Did I mention Dracula's Curse?

Bloodlines, easily. So much plot couldst be crammed into that with modern stylings, and 'tis so close to our own time as to be nigh on contemporary...
PLus, the fight with Death wouldst be outstanding, and we mightst finally be told which colour Eric's hair truly is!
-
I'd like to see something akin to Super Mario All-Stars.. using the first three games and maybe the gameboy titles as well (using the original designs for the sprite updates, including Simon's CV1 and CV2 costumes from the NES box covers), but there should be a lot of added content:
Give Simon's Quest additional dungeons to unlock, and put a level editor into CV1. Unlock various artwork and design notes from the games. Unlock various CV characters (Richter, Alucard, Simon's CV1 and CV2 costumes etc) for play in any of the games (simply as a bonus).. and then even have a character editor, so you can set your own traits (like backflip jump, dash, doublejump) to any character.
It's a pipe dream, but I've been thinking of that for a long time.
-
The best title in my opinion to remake would be one of my favorite Castlevania game of all time... Regardless of what people thought of it because of it being adventurous and hard to finish since it had many puzzles but not much helpful clues etc...
Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest should be remade in Full 3D with additional RPG features and interactivity with people etc.
If done right it can finally appeal to those who hated this game and it would be a great 3D Action Adventure CV Game with Simon. I would love to see Simon in that artwork from CV2 in 3D, that's Simon's best design I've ever seen.
-
I have already said this many times: I want Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse remade for PSP the same way as Rondo was remade into DXC. It would have new art by Ayami Kojima, amazing new arrangements of old tunes and awesome graphics.
-
I've actually never been a big fan of side-scrolling games in 3D (like Dracula X Chronicles). I'm not sure why. I just get the impression that the whole gameplay kinda loses its original atmosphere. I can't really say for sure though, since I've never played DXC. All I know is that I really didn't like Megaman X7 and X8 (same concept), compared to the others to the series.
But it's all okay if the characters and enemies are 2D sprites and backgrounds or something are 3D.
I really wanna try DXC but I don't own a PSP :(
-
I've got a PSP and DXC. It's good, but I find that I don't like the controls nearly as much as the DS. The 3D style doesn't change the control too much, but it takes some getting used to. Even then, I still find myself playing the original games more, especially CV1, 2, 3, and 4.
That's why I'd prefer to see them made ala Super Mario All Stars, or Super Street Fighter II Turbo: HD Remix... same sprite numbers and gameplay, just updated graphics.
-
Remaking has a great potential to put a focus the games few remember, but are still canon. The Adventure, Belmont's Revenge, Simon's Quest, and Bloodlines fall into that criteria.
-
This is kinda related but not totally... what happened to the home-made Castlevania 3 remake? Was it still being worked on?
-
I've said it before and I'll say it again...
Christopher's story needs to be re-told. I'd love that to be the next Chronicles game. Take the CV: Adventure and Belmont's Revenge, roll them into 1 big game with modern graphics & sound, and put it out as a new Chronicles game. I think that would be fantastic.
