Interesting. It looks like you used the DS's palette? I think the colors should be a little more contrasted, so it doesn't look so washed out. But other than that looking quickly I cant see anything that sticks out as a really major flaw.

The armor sections are smooth... a bit too smooth.
I agree with UZO on the contrast.  Also, I cannot tell since I did not load it up on my painting program, but it might be a bit too dithered/pillowshaded, which is why it looks so smooth and blurry in the armor area.

Actually the palette is of my own creation. It was based more on the artwork (including a certain peice of fanart http://serio.piiym-net.com/image/2302200.jpg , which is where I was inspired to give it a more cool and blueish/purple sort of aura) as opposed to the official sprite, which I feel is much too bright and inaccurate.

However your comment on contrast I find a bit odd; for me it appears almost too contrasted. The darks are very dark and the brights are pretty bright. Although it may simply be a result of differing computers and monitor brightnesses; this one appears to be rather dark compared to most newer ones. I'll look into this a bit more, though.

I agree with UZO on the contrast.

Totally topic unrelated, but Holy mother of Jesus FUCK that reference picture is god-awful!! That's one of the worst figure drawings I've ever seen!! Sure the attention to detail is nice, as are the colors, shading and drapery, but Shanoa is a disfigured mutant!! AAGH.

Yeah, that pic gives Shanoa some ridiculously small feet...

Also, notice it's one of Serio's pics?

...Ya know, Serio, that sounds horribly racist.

Oh crap, class is starting, gotta go!

Well hey, it is, after all, Kojima style. Right down to the horrible proportions.

No, it's not just the proportions. It's the quality of the drawing and figure overall.

I'll do a better, more detailed analysis when I get home. I'm in class right now.

Well yes, I never said it wasn't horrendously flawed - which it is - simply that its take on Shanoa and the more Kojima-esque flavor it presented inspired me to do some Shanoa related things; albeit all that came out of it was the sprite above.

The black is fine, its dark, but the next shade up is quite a bit brighter and thus creates a contrast imbalance. Everything except for the black needs to be readjusted.

I made a quick and dirty contrast rebalanced. Try to adjust it somewhat like this.

Not to get off-topic but I think what Clara is referring to in the fan art is the width of her gait (totally too wide) and the shortness and thickness of her neck. Also that head is WAY too long, even Ayami doesn't do that.

Other than that, it's pretty nice detail and mood.

Actually this is what I was referring to: http://castlevania.classicgaming.gamespy.com/forums/index.php?topic=1930.0

Made a new topic so we didn't get too derailed here.

I originally didn't see what you were referring too, but have since discovered that the woman who owns the computer I'm using in fact had the brightness and contrast settings much lower then they should be. I've readjusted and do somewhat see the problem, even if to differentiate the dark shade and the "black" shade was part of the point (to allow for more differntiation between Shanoa's hair and her figure).

Despite that however, I find that your alteration appears near identical to how the peice used to look on the old settings. I'll alter the "official" palette sometime soon, when I've actually got the time to do so, along with playing around with the shading a bit more.

Acttully that's a very impressive sprite image. I do sprite art myself so I know what I'm talking about. The only thing I can think of for the sprite itself in terms of light is on her breastplate. Maybe one or two shades darker and I do believe it could work out well. However it's your sprite and you get the final say! ;D
