Uhh... that's a marketing error on the store's part. They put a sign there without thinking. I work at Gamestop, there's no official marketing like that.
Although we did get our 8-bit Simon figurines in. :3

Yup, I work at a Gamestop as well, and to my knowledge, no official marketing.
:o The figurines are in?! Crap, I gotta go in tomorrow, it's been a few days since I was last scheduled...>_> Damn, the things I miss...

Yeah, a used Bioshock is only about $5 cheaper used. But it goes according to how popular the title is and how often it gets traded in.

Not only, but their used games are always guaranteed to work just fine, and that's something that they value themselves in.

I've never trusted Gamestop because I've been burned in the past all to many times. Since LoI, I've reserved every game onward in hopes of getting a bonus. I've NEVER gotten a bonus, be it at stores or online, I've ALWAYS gotten the shaft. Particularly with the 20th Anniversary PoR bonus, which I reserved BEFORE my sister did(she reserved it a couple of days before it actually came out), and SHE got the bonus and I didn't. We both reserved it online, too. That's why I just accepted that I was never meant to have a bonus item. It's not "fated" for me. Someone "up there" is laughing at me and my misfortune, obviously.
Oh well, yeah, I'm going to get the game AFTER it's released. No more pre-orders for me.

Y'know, that's a dumb reason not to preorder from us.
Fact is, it isn't like preorder costs you anything, it still gives you the reserved copy, you've already payed a part of your cost, AND you might get the bonus this time around.
Even though, it's probably a bit late by now, since the Simon figurines were VERY limited.
I preordered mine in early July I believe. Could have been earlier. :D First in the system to do so in the Mid-West!

Not every store gets the bonuses, and they're first come, first serve when it comes to customer collection. It's not that particular store's fault you didn't get your bonus if the company didn't send it to them or you didn't get in in time to pick yours up if they did. It's called "limited supply" for a reason.
Besides, even if you don't get the preorder bonus, reserving games are still favorable to buying it after it's out. When you reserve, you put a downpayment, and you can keep coming back to put more money down on it like a free layaway program. Besides, not every game has a bonus attached to a reserve.
If you're so bummed about the one you go to, just go to a different one if there's more than one nearby.

And we generally have stores extremely close to each other. It's not difficult to reach the neighboring gamestop if you're willing to drive ten/fifteen extra minutes.
Heck, I live in this itsy bitsy town called Green Bay, and we have two gamestops in a ten minute drive of each other.
And as far as the bonuses, it isn't until a few weeks before the release that we even figure out if we get the bonus. So, it's never our fault really, as Clara pointed out.

I don't work in a video game store, unfortunately. But I'm in there chatting with them at least 3 times a week. :P
I really hope the store I preordered at gets the figures.

If it's a gamestop that you're going to, they should already have figured out if they're getting the bonus. I think it's a gamestop-only thing anyway.
They should have a folder that lists the title and release date, along with the bonus (if any) for every game that's coming out.

I think it's regional, because all of Region 7 has it. As do the Syracuse, New York stores. ...Can't recall if the ones in Denver Colorado do though...

Sounds just like any OTHER Gamestop employee. I swear, they can quote this in their sleep. I remember having to push similar things when I worked for Blockbuster. "Sir, I've checked your account and it seems that you don't have a Rewards card yet...".

I've pre-ordered from many different Gamestops, and all were the same. As I mentioned, even the online store gave me the shaft. As for regions, I'm in Los Angeles. Maybe we got a bunch of duds here. Anyways, time for me to go to Game Crazy!! ;D

the problem with Gamestop is often times you will go in there, pick up the display case and go to pay for your game. here you are, paying for a new game. they go under the counter, put the disc and contents in the display case and give you that. whoa. man i paid for a new game please give me a sealed copy or nothing at all. that display case game is used now bud! im not even being picky... everyone must be entitled to the new game if thats what they're paying for.
so i says: "its opened." brushs it off like nothing says "yeah but its new" im all like "no baud get out of my sight" and i walk out.

Not so much defensive as letting them know what we have to do. We always have to keep a display out on the floor so people know what we got. That display is to be sold last so that there's no more out on the floor. It's the same at all stores, not just mine.
But eh. Now that I think about it, we've gotten way off topic. Has anyone else picked up their 8-bit figurine? Some stores give the preorder bonuses when the game comes out, some give it early.

Why are you so defensive about Game Stop? It's not like these people are talking about your store.
Because we've all had to deal with people like this before and would like to defend our position since we can't in our actual stores unless we want to get a complaint filed against us.

That, and simply because some of the attacks toward our stores are simply uninformed and about things that have clear reasons behind them.
And there's a reason we're probably the number one video game store line in the US: We have better variety of games than anyplace else, we always try to deal our best with customers, and every employee is usually very informed on many different subjects regarding games. For example, in my store, we have a movie junkie that deals with out anime/movie stuff, as well as the playstation 3. I deal with anything Sony related, another person deals with overall game testing that we're sometimes expected to do on major titles in order to be more informed and in the loop regarding the big titles currently out. We also have a guy that deals with our organization (even though we all do it), and he also deals with the advertisement setup.
We really DO bust our butts off to provide you guys the best quality of things we can, so it's a little harsh to bash down on the whole system if you've had one or two bad experiences.
As for you DragonSlayer, I really don't know what the heck's up with the gamestops around you, but that certainly isn't the case at any gamestop I have ever been to. And that's stating for way before I started working there.

treat it like a used game! which it is. if you only have the display case left than you have no true new games left. but anyway its not the employee's fault, i just take it elsewhere.

I've actually had experiences where I bought the last game, y'know, which SHOULD'VE came with the display case, but they didn't even give me that. I think it was Vagrant Story. The display case was in good shape, came with the back case slip, and the booklet. I went to the counter and got the game. They put it in some warn out looking CD case, no slips or anything. I asked, "Shouldn't you put it in THIS case? I mean, this IS the last copy"(which the clerk confirmed prior to looking in the drawers for the game). He said no, and that the case(with the booklet) was just for display. DISPLAY WHAT?!! That was the LAST GAME!!! Even, by some strange bizarro chance that they wanted the display case STILL out there, that would be just false advertisement to another person who saw it, saying, "Oooo! Vagrant Story! Gotta have it!", then finding out that they had no more. Again, I live in California. Maybe, like everything here, the west coast Gamestop chain is just uber corrupt and the clerks don't know what the hell they are doing. Most cases, I've gotten unprofessional stoner-typed clerks that are too busy chomping on nachos and talking on the phones with their friends than helping out the customers.
And I don't doubt that some Gamestop employees DO bust their butts to do the best that they can, but don't most honest hard working peeps do that anyways? I DID have to take a lot of crap when I worked at Blockbuster, but I took it all with a smile and bouncy "Thank you. Please come again!", even though sometimes you feel like going Chainsaw Massacre on the customers from HELL!

Technically though, the game's never been bought and it's never been in a console. It's only considered "Used" once it's been purchased and taken out of a store.

Game Crazy actually gives you the actual case of the (used)game; not just some DVD case with some Photoshope'd label on it. And when you buy new games, it's actually factory sealed! :o
So basically, here at VA, Game Crazy > Game Stop

You're lucky if they photoshop a label. There was a funny cover done on white paper using a green marker. It had a car on it and the word "Vroom" (it was a used ds racing game.) My friend wanted me to buy it instead of Baten Kaitos Origins.

That's what I was talking about, lol. They have those labels which are totally irrelevant to the game. And even if you ask for the proper case, they wouldn't give it to you. =/ That's kinda wrong, I think.

I got mine for $6 bucks, with the case and booklet and everything at Game Crazy. =P Snake Eater for $8 bucks. Pretty schweet, eh? =)

We don't keep jacket covers in the computer. If someone trades in a game without the original case, we have to put on a generic cover :\

Clara E Leet there was a time you could buy the display game at full price, play it, return it and they relist it as new. This was before they were putting yellow stickers over their bought display games that say "unreturnable if seal broken", but that's besides the point.
They're treating opened games as if they're new, that's wrong. Collectors know value of opened game =/= value of new, sealed game! What's the point in buying new if you are not the first to open.. I mean yah if the game is rare than I would not complain, but otherwise it's bad business and it should be fixed.

As far as I know, DXC "available now" isn't even part of this Marketing set.
Heh. Our ASM comes in an hour before the store opens to set up marketing. Still takes all day, but it's better than staying after hours off the clock.

I've worked at Gamestop before. And Oh boy let me tell you. The store I worked in had some of the MOST stuck up employees I have ever seen. Bust my ass off? Ef' no, fuckers wouldn't even have a basic conversation with me so that I could get to know my co-workers a lot better so that I was more comfortable around them.
Luckily enough I quit.

I understand that. However, even if they have the actual case for the game, and you ask for it politely, they still wouldn't give it to you; instead, they'll just put it in one of those paper CD case.

That's odd. I've never heard of a store doing that, since it's pointless. If they are sold out of the game, they would have no need for the box. I would call in a complaint against that store, but I don't think it will do any good. Our official policy is that used games are not guaranteed to come with original packaging, booklets, or bonus material.

That's what they did to me, but it wasn't a paper slipcase. It was a warn out, broken cd case. Had no slips or anything, just clear. And the display case(which belonged to the game I was purchasing) was in good condition, booklet and back slip included.

The fact is, I used to be a Assistant Store Manager (but have since changed positions in the company), and not even the Game Advisors really know the stress of the DM's and RDM's breathing down their necks every waking minute of the day.
So much goes into running a store, and Customer Service is number one on the list. However, Working for a Gamestop store is not as easy as everyone thinks it would be. Gamestop as a company itself is one giant partnership, so if someting messes up somewhere in the Corporate offices, something messes up in the store and the easiest way for customers to vent is by taking it out on the associates they're closest too.
It's cliche, but it all rolls downhill.
You guys dont make anyone's (including your own) lives any easier whining about how your box was a little dirty or how you unfortunately got a gutted (but still new and unused) copy of Hamsterz Life.
If customers would help out instead of complain about everything, stores everywhere (not just Gamestops) would run so much more smoothly, because the fact of the matter is they have no idea, unless they've been in the trenches first hand, how things are run in a store.
And for Matt, the ASM who unfortunately lost his life against in a robbery gone bad, my heart hangs heavy for you, your friends and your family.
It's never easy to lose a co-worker and member of the Gamestop Family.

I think Gamestop stopped with the used game/generic case thing since I have seen several used games over there with their actual cases and none with the generic blue one.
However, I remember buying a used Chrono Cross for my brother for 23 dollars at gamestop years ago (this was shortly before the greatest hits came out.)

Or it could have been that the trades were actually brought back with their original cases. I've seen trades of 100+ games all with their original cases, instruction manuals, etc. It's a matter of locale and how the people who come in to trade treat their games.
They haven't stopped because the store I work at still prints generic cases for games with missing cases.

Well with some games we don't take the cases. Gameboy games, for instance. We usually keep those in a display case, since they came in cardboard boxes with nothing to hold them in when they were new, and we don't have those little inserts that go in the boxes to hold the cartridge. It's just easier to keep them in a display box that the employees can unlock with a key.
Every other game though, we can take with or without a case.
