I was wondering what you guys consider to be the best Castlevania area of all time, from any game. You can pick a couple if you like. Make sure you say what game it's from and why you like it.
My personal favorite is the Royal Chapel from Symphony of the Night. Great atmosphere there, especially with the music. It's got a great 3D room in the center, too.

CHAOTIC REALM, definitely, from AoS.
its awesome! all the rooms look like places you've already been to, and when you step into some rooms, it looks like you've stepped into a swirling vortex in space.
in essence, it feels hmmm, whats the word, occult. perfect for castlevania.

I'm expecting this thread to be filled with "THE VILLA!"
Personally, I don't know though. There are so many to choose from, I cant quite pin point a single one.
-
Lost Village, OoE's clocktower, SOTN's castle, etc.
-
The Castle Entrance by far! Usually it's the first thing you see, but I can't help but get excited to know there is so much waiting for me ahead! And how can you not love those giant red curtains or the mermen pond!

Dracula's attic
-
Ive always been fond of the graveyards mself =D
-
I gave it some thought and I'd probably say, out of many other possible ones, the second stage of Castlevania 4; Forest of Monsters. I like how its transitions between forest, swamp, high lands, and river.
-
Dracula's attic doesn't actually exist as a named area so i revoke my previous statement. My personal favorite is the skeleton den in HoD. It has a really dark feel (like the rest of the game) and the song is one of the best in HoD imo.

Very, very hard to pick just one.
OK.
. . . the Room of Close Associates!
-
III, IV, DX, and Bloodlines have the best combination of areas...particularly IV, which has so many mind-blowing areas.
BUT, if I have to pick one, I'll say Dracula X SNES' Atlantis Stage. It is absolutely gorgeous-looking, has great progression from low to high, and has a fitting selection of enemies for that environment. Plus, Annette is hidden there, it has some fun platforming with a flooding building, and its superior remix of "Picture of a Ghost Ship" works so much better with this stage than Rondo's pirate ship. Not to mention, getting to this hidden stage takes some skill as you have to maintain a key in the previous stage.

Oh, Tower of Dolls is great...in a really strange sort of way. Also, it has one of my favorite tracks!

Personally after finally getting symphony of the night and playing through it twice, it's not nearly as good as its made out to be.
I'd say the villa from CV 64/Legacy of darkness. I think that the castle wall is also great from CV 64. Although I did love the underground sections of symphony of the night.
Other than great music and a well drawn castle symphony of the night is overated.
The enemy drawings and attacks are boring, and the fact that the same enemies spawn in the same location gets old, what's the point in leveling up? Zero game balance, even the 64 games have better balancing, even if the control can be a bit over sensitive.
2 cents worth, imho.

Villa was good until the chainsaw chase part... then it just ruined it all for me.
I HATE THAT PART in every version of the game.

Yeah me too. It was like they were trying to make CV into a cheesy 80's slasher movie. Thats the kind of thing I would expect more in something like Resident Evil

Gotta go with the catacombs. Those are always a fun romp.
