Whoa, I was trying to search the internet to see if I could find a translation of the Japanese manual for Dracula's Curse, when I stumbled across a page that contains details and images for the animated feature that I haven't seen before. I can't really tell how old it is, but since it's talking about a live action movie being released in Q4 2009/, it can't be too new, but it's also talking about a PS3 Castlevania game, so it can't be too old either. Has anyone seen this before? I wonder if its the sort of thing that wasn't intended for the public to view?
Anyways, check out the new art for Alucard and Sypha and some fiends like the Cyclops, as well as the film synapsis.

That is an awesome find.
It's more info than we've gotten from the official website.

Now that's a Trevor Belmont. Alucard is... well... strange, but it kind of makes sense with his powers from CV3, I could see that version of him flying around shooting fireballs.
-
Looks like the deck's from 2008.
-
Great find, wonder how this managed to slip under the radar??
Alucard looks like he came out of Parasite Eve. Sypha looks awesome. Too bad there's no HQ versions =/ Story synopsis sounds promising.
The movie got canned, the Alucard game got canned, and now it seems that this probably got or will get canned too >:(
-
Yeah, I'd wager that all three projects got axed at about the same time. I was hoping on seeing this one, but there hasn't been any news in nearly a year. It's pretty irritating not getting any official word, though.
I wanted to see this and the console game. The live action movie, though, I'm glad about.
-
What a nice Alucard! It's creepy, vampiric, ethereal, great, I want a Alucard with that style in a Cox' Castlewvania :D It seems to be nice and very well adapted from the game.
-
Alucard reminds of Gary Oldman from Bram Stoker's Dracula for some reason. :o
Sypha looks fine I guess, but why the red hair?
-
Huh, didn't realize everything had been canceled. Probably a good thing in the live action movies case...
Ironically, with my av, I like that Trevor design the best out of what I have seen. Looks like someone that'd open a giant can of whoop-ass on Satan himself.
-
It's a pity if this has really been canceled. I was really looking forward to it.
-
Cccc-cancelled???? :-X
NOOOOO!!! Where did you read that???
-
As far as I can recall, the live action movie was cancelled but the animated one was still green-light.
Also, Sypha looks awesome but I hope that's not her final design. It all but screams "Hey I'm a girl" and it was supposed to be a huge reveal that she was indeed a woman because all throughout the game we thought she was a man.

That's a really good find, I wonder why it was never put up on the main CV movie site for the animated film?
Not sure where all this talk about it being cancelled is coming from, was there official word it's done?
I am holding out hopes that is still being produced along with the PS3 Alucard game. Call me an optimist.
I just would rather see those two projects to be honest.
-
I wish the Alucard game was being in development right now.
I think the game will be launched, I mean, it MUST be launched, we, the core fans, deserve to know the story holes on the Japan Timeline, and that includes PostSOTN and 1999. Even if thet's the last thing IGA could do in CV, they must do it, for us.
About Sypha, that's not a spoiler anymore, in gaming was an historic moment, but now everyone knows, it was easy to do at those times with the sprite limitations, but now, it's almost impossible, the only way it could be factible could be Sypha wearing a mask, or, being a very ugly woman :P

It's not a secret to the FANS, yes, but to keep up with storyline, Sypha hid her identity as a woman. With the persecution of Lisa being a witch and practicing magic, Sypha would have done well herself to hide that she was a woman who practiced magic.

Alucard defeat Trevor in combat? Horse shit!
-
Technically that didn't happen, Trevor could have pulled the comeback, but he revealed who he really was instead. He should, at the very least, be able to give Trevor enough trouble.

According to the synopisis (unless I misread) Alucard almost wins, then does not kill them...
-
That version of Trevor is very faithfull to the original version seen in the openning cinematics of Dracula's Curse.
We're just being paranoid right now, let's hope that's all there is to that.
-
After reading that I hope this never gets made. Alucard besting Trevor in combat? Alucard destined to defeat Dracula? Wtf? What about the Belmonts? What about the Vampire Killer? Why is it so fucking hard for people to get Castlevania right?
-
We don't know that if the fight continued, it wouldn't go something like this: Alucard goes for the killing blow, Trevor dodges, whips Al upside the head and gets, at the very least, a K.O. victory.
Alucard destined to defeat Dracula sounds like a human story, not a real prophecy.
The Belmonts were feared for their power at this point, so who would write that they were destined to defeat Dracula?
The Vampire Killer, at the point of CV3, didn't even have a name, let alone being singled out as THE vampire hunting tool. As far as anyone knew, and I think it'd be better this way, the whip was just a weapon passed on from generation to generation of skilled vampire hunters, who knew various ways to kill a vampire.
I think the whole, no whip, no vampire hunting for a whole vampire hunting lineage sounds ludicrous.

It's just idiotic that it insinuates that Alucard would be able to defeat Trevor in the first place. And of course it's a human story. It's a prophecy. It didn't have to say that a Belmont was the "prophesized savior." It could have said a stranger would arrive or something similar.

Dude, calm down, its somebody else's take on the story.
Imagine it like this. Lets say you're playing Dracula's Curse, you're about to fight Alucard but you had a tough time through the level. You fight him, barely dodge his last attack, and defeat Alucard. Maybe thats how the movie would play out.
Just because it's not 100% accurate doesn't mean it'll be bad. Like The Belmont Legacy, not totally accurate, but still entertaining.
Also, in SotN you can kill Richter and get the bad ending. If Alucard can defeat Richter, why couldn't he defeat Trevor??
-
I like the character art.
-
Cool find, my friend!
The plot doesn't seem so bad, though as Thomas Belmont says it's kinda weird that Alucard defeats Trevor-sama and not the other way around. Also, in CV3 didn't the Church ask for Trevor's help rather than (inadvertently) helping Dracula? ::)
-
In Reply To #23
Alucard never defeated Richter according to canon.
In Reply To #25
Yeah, according to Castlevania 3, they asked Trevor for help.
-
In Reply To #25
Yea, I do believe the Church does ask Trevor for help.
And I'm all for Trevor beating Alucard and all. But I'm more for it could have went either way with that battle.
As for Alucard never beating Richter, that's true. But he did beat the curse ball thing even with Richter bombarding him with attacks.
-
The church even asked for Sypha's help. Heck, Judgment says that Sypha was under the protection of the church way before she fought Dracula. But this is a good story. As many details don't fit right with the game events, it does use some good details from the game. I can't wait to see the whole Cyclops battle and Sypha turning back from stone, for instance. Plus, Trevor doesn't get any respect or appreciation and all he wants is some. I wonder why the townsfolk blame his family for part of their predicament. Just because they're enemies of Dracula? I wonder if there'll be any connections made with Leon/Mathias. And of course, Lisa appearing as she did in Symphony of the Night is great. Trevor and Alucard duking it out in the first place is correct.
-
Arguing how close this sticks to the story of a NES game seems really silly to me... I mean the source material in question is a game which the story is conveyed by like 5 cut scenes and an instruction manual. I like the idea that the church isn't being too helpful. I mean back then the church controlled everything, so if they were just like "Okay Trev, go kill Dracula BAI" then there wouldn't be the conflict of Trevor trying to get trust and respect from the townspeople. As far as Alucard beating Trevor in a fight, I think that's a great idea. Ir gives Trevor room for some actual character development. If he started out as like the strongest being ever, then he wouldn't have to overcome his weaknesses by the end of the film, and that would be boring.
-
Amen, Doc. If this was to follow the game exactly, we'd have 90 min of Trevor walking mostly left to right and navigating platforms, with almost no dialogue and an occasional boss fight. And he might even fight the same damn cyclops three times. This is a translation from one medium to another, and so it's going to have differences. It HAS to, for the sake of better storytelling. Get over it. Besides, didn't Alucard hold back when he was fighting Trevor, because he was testing him? Or am I thinking of Alucard in Legends?
Not that it matters. If you want to watch a perfectly faithful film of CV3, go download a gameplay vid.
-
It makes no sense. Why even have Trevor in the movie if you're going to have Alucard be able to defeat him? Why not just have Alucard defeat Dracula? Which I bet this shit movie will wind up have happen. Why is Alucard the "chosen one?" Growing up with the games since the original, I feel that, in the Castlevania universe, in no way should a Belmont take a back seat to nor be defeated by anybody, especially Simon or Trevor.

Alucard is a vampire. Any belmont should be able to take him out. The title vampire killer wouldn't hold much weight at all if the best can be killed by a vampire.

That's what I have been saying the whole time.
-
He's half vampire. So Trevor only has half a chance of beating him. Just the numbers man, just the NUMBERS.
-
That's what I have been saying the whole time.
Yeah I agree. It baffles me too how they could make Alucard stronger than a Belmont.

I think NitM/SotN did a pretty good job of proving that. Seriously, who here hasn't been able to slash Dracula twice and ended him in their sleep with a maxed-out weapon in the hands of a Level 99 Alucard?

I actually beat Drac in SotN once with bare fists...no weapons equipped. I just wanted to try it cuz I figured my character was TOO strong, and he was :)

They forgot to include Grant!! That can't be released until they include the fierce pirate captain who guards the top of the clocktower!

They purposely left Grant out, actually.
