Title: You still think Lords of Shadow is a CV?
Post by: Rictrunks on August 21, 2009, 02:34:32 PM
I love Lords of Shadow but it's not a Castlevania.

It's announced with only "Lords of Shadow" name, lack of CV title (at E3 2008). And it's nothing about Castlevania.

After that, on Tokyo Game Show 2008, we saw the REAL CASTLEVANIA NEXT-GEN, is this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=phX4ExPgHr8

That was a real Castlevania with Alucard and from Japanese developers (Probably from IGA).

So, what did we see this year?

THEY'VE ADDED CASTLEVANIA NAME TO LORDS OF SHADOW! IT'S NOT ETHIC FOR CV FANS! (or just for me).

THEY SHOW US CHARACTERS WHO AREN'T from BELMONT family! (WHO THE F* IS GABRIEL?!)

THEY'VE CANCELLED THE ORIGINAL NEXT-GEN CASTLEVANIA because of Hideo Kojima.

Lords of Shadow will be a great game, but it's not going to be a Castlevania game! I hate Kojima but he's making great games. Also Kojima is not making Lords of Shadow. He's just visiting Spain some times (Yes, developers are totally Spanish). The game's producer or director is NOT Kojima.

Let's read the lies:

Quote from: Joystiq
We were a bit perplexed when Konami announced Castlevania: Lords of Shadow at E3 earlier this year. The reason: Konami announced the exact same game last year, minus the "Castlevania" in the title. Many of us here at the 'Stiq had assumed that Konami had seen an opportunity to raise the profile of the title by attaching the Castlevania name but, according to producer David Cox, that wasn't the case.

Cox tells 1UP that the game was always meant to be a Castlevania title, but the association was removed when it was first announced at E3 2008. It seems Konami didn't want to steal any thunder from its then upcoming Castlevania: Judgment. Probably a good call, considering Judgment's nominal thunder could be stolen by a reasonably large rubber ball.

What? What is "Konami didn't want to steal any thunder from its then upcoming Castlevania: Judgment"?!

Do you belive?

I don't.

Good bye to the real next-gen Castlevania:

Rictrunks... Please go back and read the multiple interviews that are posted up all over the Lords of Shadow thread.  It has been confirmed, and re-confirmed, that Lords of Shadow was intended to be Castlevania from the very beginning.

If you don't like the looks of it, thats fine.  But can we drop the stupid conspiracy theories already?

Well, have fun sitting in a corner with tinfoil on your head watching the teaser for the now defunct Alucard game.

I sympathize with you, Rictrunks, as I've said in the other thread. However, I think we have an obligation not to be too vociferous in our complaints...I mean, if we look like a bunch of whiny fanboys, that won't help our position and will just make people less sympathetic to us! Like I said in the other thread, although I'm not too happy about Lords of Shadow, I'll prolly buy it anyways, just to see...who knows, maybe it'll have more Castlevania in it than the developers are letting on, maybe they're withholding a LOT of classic Castlevania references to give us a nice surprise or somethin :) So let's not give in to despair just yet. Have hope, my friend ;;_;;

Of course watching that Alucard teaser is better than seeing and reading these stupid things from Kojima-side.

Why?  Just because Alucard is in it?  Beyond that you get no info at all from that teaser.  For all we know the Alucard game might have been terrible.

heh, I'm not giving up on the Alucard game until I see that Iga's working on a non-Castlevania game at the Tokyo Game Show.

Then you're being ignorant, because the recent extended trailer states that the Belmont's are referenced in the game. Whether you like it or not, Lords of Shadow is going to be a Castlevania game, and if you want to live in your world of ignorant bliss, then have fun. Meanwhile the rest of us are going to continue watching the new trailers of the game hoping that *someone* (and I say that meaning Kojima) can actually deliver a decent 3D Castlevania game.

Saying "Lords of Shadow is NOT a Castlevania Game" is just a personal opinion. Just like saying Kojima's Castlevania is stupid. Whatever....it's your OPINION. Despite that, there is proof to the contrary. Just keep in mind that no matter how hard you want to believe otherwise, there is proof you are wrong other than your opinions and you should really stop while you're ahead.

And where the heck do you have proof that they canceled they other next-gen Castlevania game? (and by that, I mean the one with Alucard in the teaser) I haven't heard anything about that being canceled.

If they do end up canceling "SotN 2", then it would probably have been canceled for its own reasons not related to LoS, and perhaps more to due with Judgment's reception.  They were working on LoS as a closet Castlevania game since before the Alucard trailer was released.  I simply can't believe that they would have "forced" Iga to make the trailer if they weren't originally intending on releasing both CV games.  I think they don't want to steal LoS's thunder with the Alucard game now in the same way they didn't want to steal Judgment's thunder with LoS.

You're saying "recent interview". The developers add Belmont storyline to game intentionally, deliberately; afterwards because of including Castlevania name to Lords of Shadow title. Developers don't have to say truth, always. And you don't have to believe them. To believe or not believe this theory DOESN'T make the game good or bad. I'm not saying "hey don't play this game because this isn't Castlevania". I try to say "the game will be great and I strongly believe this game is NOT originally a Castlevania. Developers are lying."

Maybe yes, maybe no.......you'll never know the truth. Only time will show if this move from Konami was good or bad. I have my own doubts about the game, but i'll give it a try to show me what it has to offer me. If they are going to abandon the old series, then i will get mad and i want forgive Konami for doing so and in my turn, i'll abandon the Castlevania series.
Title: Re: You still think Lords of Shadow is a CV?

Well, I STRONGLY believe that this game was a CV from day one. Cox even said that he was surprised more people didn't see that LoS was in fact a CV back in 2008. He was also disappointed when Konami didn't want to reveal the game for what it was - a CV.

I obviously have no proof, but neither have you. I still think it was CV all along. The first trailer SCREAMED Castlevania, even though some of you would disagree.

I can see why they wanted to focus on Ecclesia and Judgment, because LoS is a rebirth of the series and it would've been too confusing to have all those games announced at the very same time.

The Alucardvania from TGS 2008 is most likely still in production. It's a newer game than LoS (LoS had been in development for quite some time when we first saw the teaser for the Alucard game, and IGA didn't even wanna show it so soon, or so I've heard.)

To me, LoS is 110% Castlevania. And even if it started out as something completely different (which I don't believe) it's a Castlevania now, and that's all that matters.
Title: Re: You still think Lords of Shadow is a CV?
Post by: A-Yty on August 22, 2009, 06:29:21 AM
I can't think of a single CV forum that didn't notice how CVish the first teaser was. And many, including myself, kept feeling around the idea it was actually a CV kept a secret as part of the marketing (this was actually one of the similarities LoS shares with my fake IMDB review of SQ remake I did about two years ago).

But I think the initial project wasn't Castlevania and it wasn't one when the teaser was released. The later statements reek of purposeful explonations and simple marketing. Understandably they don't want to "cheapen" the project by admitting it was, at best, a CV-inspired project in the beginning, but a different game nonetheless.

Until I get solid proof I'm going to assume this. But yeah, the outcome is what matters.

It doesn't really matter how Lords of Shadow came to became christened as Castlevania, what does matter is how many different ways Konami dropped the ball by misleading the fanbase.

1.  Lords of Shadow was introduced as a new IP and IGA's Alucard teaser was shown to be the next generation Castlevania.
3.  Lords of Shadow was branded as a Castlevania.  Meanwhile the continued development of the Alucard game is neither confirmed nor denied.
4.  Even though he's barely involved, Konami appointed Hideo Kojima to sell LoS to the masses at E3.  IGA's absense is not explained, nor is his future involvement with the franchise confirmed or denied.
5.  More recently confirmation comes that IGA still works for Konami.  And although he is working on something, we're still waiting to see what it is.

If IGA is still currently working on an Alucard (or any other) Castlevania game, it would have been responsible to clear that up back at E3.  In either case, locking IGA in the closet was a big mistake that undermined some fans' confidence in LoS.  Kojima supervising may be fine, but he wasn't the right man to sell this thing --just imagine how much better LoS would have gone over with IGA's vocal support for the new team.  At best, Konami's Public Relations is incompetent and at worst --decietful.  I can understand why you might be angry, but I think you need to put that anger in the proper place.

Understandably they don't want to "cheapen" the project by admitting it was, at best, a CV-inspired project in the beginning, but a different game nonetheless.  Until I get solid proof I'm going to assume this.

But we... have the proof.  They have now stated for the record, many times, that Lords of Shadow was a Castlevania from the beginning.  What proof are you looking for, do you want them to submit to the public notarized documents and memoranda from early 2008 that confirms LoS was originally a Castlevania?  Unfortunately, those documents will be sealed at the National Archives until 2029, along with the Kennedy files.

And cecil, much of what you are saying is based on speculation.  We don't know the whole story on Iga, so we can't assume that "Big, Bad Evil Konami" has locked him in a closet or put a gag order on him or anything.  A recent interview with Dave Cox said the following: "While he said he has huge respect for Mr. Igarashi, it's clear that Cox's (or Konami's) vision for a rebirth of Castlevania wasn't necessarily in line with Mr. Igarashi's."  For all we know, they offered Iga a seat at the table on the new Castlevania, but he was a big baby about it because they wanted to go in a bit of a different direction, or use a new development team.  We don't know for a fact that they wrenched all control from him and then slapped a gag order on him out of the blue.  Maybe they wanted him involved in some way, just not as producer with full creative control, and its Iga who then decided to disconnect himself from it totally.

Something other than saying "hey guys, I can't believe you didn't know that we were making this a CV since the beginning".

They never used any tagline for the teaser. If they had used the "Reborn" or whatever they're using now, it would have been much wiser marketing-wise (and they wouldn't have to keep making statements trying to convince that they didn't flipflop just to merge it with a flagship title).

Fishing public opinions for a year with a teaser that could be interpreted either way was smarter, though. That leaves room to either do an independent project or put in under the umbrella of an establish classic series.

Having 2 cv games being worked on by 2 companies never affected each other before

SOtN didn't harm c64 from being release, so I doubt the mercury storm game would have any effect on the Alucard title

I thought they made it clear that it was only a couple days before LoS was first shown that Konami decided to withhold the news that LoS was a Castlevania title, and the LoS producer was pissed about it.

I think Konami has learned their lesson, I don't think they are going to release two games in the same series in close proximity with two completely different creative philosophies behind them again.

I must have missed that one. When did that happen?

According to her blog it happened a while ago. I believe before PoR and OoE were released. She wanted to become freelance, and not bound strictly to Konami. This may account for her involvement being co-op instead of fully doing the OST's herself.

Yet Cox is at the same time wondering how, according to him, no one saw it coming. If we follow that logic, the smart thing would have been not to release a teaser. If it really was that obvious. Cuz that would be stealing the thunders.

They still could and should have used some sort of tagline, to keep us wondering. They could have redeemed it now and this wouldn't appear they way it does.

Its going to be a spin off, may actualy fail in the eyes of the fans of the series, I cant even stand the voice acting so i swear to god they use some decent jap actors, Like, im also curious to what dracula is going to look like, his castle looks ok, but has a lacking feel to it for some reason, its metal gear, castlevania edition, lol

Also as far as the castle goes I think it looks more like something out of Vampire Hunter D then anything in Metal Gear Solid...I dont even think they had Castle's in MGS....though if they were similar to anything in MGS the castle was start moving around then rear back and let out a T-Rex roar just before launching nukes.
