Title: 19-Disk Castlevania Soundtrack Collection
Post by: uzo on December 19, 2009, 03:46:17 AM
Quote
So it’s not quite as many discs as the SaGa Series 20th Anniversary Premium Box that we reviewed earlier this year, but it’s equally impressive. Konamistyle has revealed that the collection, titled the Akumajo Dracula Best Music Collections BOX will go on sale on March 24, 2010 for 21,000 yen, or just a bit over $230 USD.

So what’s in it? Apparently we’ll be getting a slew of Castlevania titles including the first-time release of the soundtracks to Castlevania on the MSX2 and Castlevania Legends along with additional tracks from the Sega Saturn version of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. The set will also include the Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia soundtrack, which was previously a limited edition exclusive. Disc 18 will contain arrangements courtesy of former Konami composer Michiru Yamane, and a bonus DVD will include an interview with Yamane along with footage from recording sessions. Sounds pretty damn awesome, so start saving!

Are you with me in wondering what will be included in this special box set? There’s no way they’re going to get all of the music from the entire franchise in it. I want to know more about this arrangement disc for sure.

http://www.originalsoundversion.com/?p=6371

I always would joke that "The Best of Castlevania" would have to be every OST in a giant disk collection.

Would be nice if they turn off the studio echoes from when they made Akumajou Dracula Best, and used the English version of CVIIBR's opening theme (it's longer).

And include the death chimes of each game.

But I think they'll just reprint the previous CDs, because Konami's always cheaped out like that.  ::glares at Legends' and Portrait of Ruin's production values AGAIN::

I would get it for 100$, but 230$ is a little too much.

Other methods must be resorted to then.

That's $12-24 per album depending on whether they're single- or double-disc collections. That's standard pricing, and these are imports. What kind of world do you live in where 19 music albums wouldn't be priced at $200+?

Even if they're just straight reprints, I'm all for it. It's a good way to get rare and out of print stuff.

The whole entertainment industry is asking for more than it deserves imo. Despite how I feel about the cost of music and video games, I am still going to buy a extra copy of each Castlevania game so I can satisfy my primitive collector instinct.

People would regularly drop the same amount of money for a piece of Rondo (of Dracula New Classic), but they'll get hissy over this...?  Whatever the final package winds up being, I think it's a bargain, by far...

Not true. The best thing Dracula X (SNES) has is the soundtrack. I even prefer some of the SNES tracks over the PCE originals.

In addition, the SNES version has several new songs that weren't featured on the PCE original.
Title: Re: 19-Disk Castlevania Soundtrack Collection
Post by: Jorge D. Fuentes on December 22, 2009, 11:24:10 PM
The Pre-Battle ominous tune is better than the Rondo PCE-Chiptune one (too bad it's only used in the first stage).
DraculaXX has an introductory tune, while Rondo has the German movie-style anime intro.
DraculaXX has the map tune in Pipe Organ (you hear it in Rebirth as well), there isn't one for Rondo (it uses the same as the file selector)
DraculaXX's "Opposing (Divine) Bloodlines" is a bit catchier than the Rondo version (opinion)
DraculaXX has a little jingle when you rescue Maria (Rondo has a cutscene)
DraculaXX has a different ending tune than March of the Holy Man.

I think I got everything.

I'm really looking forward to when someone finds this and is able to rip some of the Arcade music, considering we haven't been able to enjoy it without obnoxious background noise yet.

I wonder what kind of music "The Medal" has?  I thought they just use DXC BGM,  but maybe they have something interesting to offer, perhaps from the song collection feature.

Alas, for the simple reason that it wasn't created in Japan, we won't be getting an Order of Shadows OST, probably never ever will.  :(
Title: Re: 19-Disk Castlevania Soundtrack Collection
Post by: Kamirine on December 24, 2009, 08:05:10 PM
I'll upload the music when I get it. I usually do. I was just going to ask which soundtracks people wanted me to upload (cause most of it people already have or should be able to get already).
Title: Re: 19-Disk Castlevania Soundtrack Collection
Post by: ReyVGM on December 24, 2009, 08:25:07 PM
Well, assuming the CDs aren't just reprints of other soundtracks, then all of them. If they are just reprints, then I would like the disks that contain the games that never had a soundtracks. For example, Vampire Killer MSX, Castlevania Legends, Castlevania The Arcade, The Medal, etc.

I'm still pissed that Dracula X is not there, but oh well, watcha gonna do.

Title: Re: 19-Disk Castlevania Soundtrack Collection
Post by: Reinhart77 on December 25, 2009, 03:56:57 AM
well, considering that some OSTs took up 2 discs and now only take up 1, and other games are matched up with different games that they did during their original soundtrack, it's clear this won't be just a reprint of everything.  it's not clear if there will be original recordings of the individual songs though.  i wonder how "complete" the sound tracks will be.  i hope all the stage background music is at least still present, they can get rid of the cut scene tracks in order to save space.  i hope they don't shorten the tracks, or pack more than one song in a track.
Title: Re: 19-Disk Castlevania Soundtrack Collection

or pack more than one song in a track.

Coolbeanz. It's slightly cheaper at Play-Asia ($247.80 with UPS shipping as opposed to $254.02), but I really hate Play-Asia, and every order I've ever made, they charged my card more than what they were supposed to (by a couple dollars each time). I really hate that and see it as very dishonest and sketchy.

So, I think I'll just go with NCSX. They're more trustworthy to me.

Lyrics by IGA? I mean, really? God I must to hear that xD hope it's in japanease xD
*Excuse me, but it sounds ridiculous, I know I'm wonrg, but seriously,... i don't know, feels akward xD
Now, Iga still working ong CV? We knew that, however, how important is Cv-Japan now? We must to wait till LOS, if it succeds, priorities must be decided at konami (Think about it, Konami execs discussing: "Hey, we have a big budget here, who should we give it to? To the ones who made the acclaimed game that sold more than 1 million or the team that makes niche games that at their best sell 500k?... mmm hard decision")

Now about Michiru, I really feel better now, she's the master of Cv-japan music and I'm glad she's still in good terms with Konami, and it's really great, because we'll have her compositions in future CV-Japan games, she's unforgettable and I'm really pleased by hearing that  :)

I don't think Konami will hand over the franchise to MercurySteam permanently. That'd just be foolish.

I don't think Konami will hand over the franchise to MercurySteam permanently. That'd just be foolish.
Give money that doesn't return enough profit, that's foolish. And, if LOS is good enough (very very good) MS could be purchased by konami, just like Rocksteady was purchased by WB a while ago. If you have a brilliant studio taht is fan of the saga, knows how to make it appealable to the masses and returns a lot of money, you purchase it. That's how companies work.
And, I really, really want MS to be owners of the Cv-Europe saga, k¡like Activision with Infinity Ward and Trechyard, the original COD saga started with Trechyard, Infinity Ward gave them a multi-million game, Activision bought Infinity Ward ('Till 2011 however) and the saga is now divided into the Trechyard Saga and the INfinity Ward Saga. The Trecyard saga is the more traditional, they please fans, and their games are not bad, but Infinity ward makes brilliant games.
That's how I foresee Castlevania, Castlevania japan, the traditional saga with good, budget games, and MercurySteam with their Castlevania-Euro and their big  AAA games. So those of you who want CV as a niche saga, could have your niche saga, and we who want CV to be as BIG as possible, could have both  :D
The joke is on you.
Title: Re: 19-Disk Castlevania Soundtrack Collection

I was unaware you have the ability to predict the future.. btw I love the way how you shoehorn all your posts into pro-LoS talk despite the topic having nothing to do with it.

Splitting the saga between 2 studios sounds like a disaster waiting to happen, in my opinion. You're putting all your faith into LoS which is fine, but in reality there's not enough solid a foundation that gauruntees it'll be a instant hit. For instance:

1. Castlevania has never translated good into 3D.
2. MercurySteam's own previous efforts haven't gone so well.
3. The company has never worked on any CV game before.
4. Removing series staples in favor for a new fanbase (mainly the hacknslash players)
etc.

So if there's some doubt in my mind that says proceed with caution, it's entirely justified. As for yourself, the only reasons you have that makes LoS golden is a few pretty screenshots & a twitter account.

I'm all for fresh new ideas, but the way they're handling it ("the old CV stuff was garbage, so lets start anew") isn't wise in my eyes. Seems that you've been blindly converted to this new way of thinking without reading the fine print first. Without condoning or condemning LoS, we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

Quote
The joke is on you.

You're joking yourself if you're convinced LoS will sell over a million units..

It may, or may not, but I at least have faith, and want change, and I don't whine with the whole "OH no! CV is going to be commercial now! They sold its spirit! let's boycott LOS! so we could have our Alucard in every game  :-*"
IN response to you
1- Yeah, because Iga's team is incapable of doing that. This is not Iga team, so, I have faith.
2- Scrapland (the one everyone forgotten) is actually pretty good, read IGN review for example, it's not genre defining, but graphics and setting were praised :)
3- Rocksteady never worked on the Batman franchise and they delivered a masterpiece, the ones from Metroid prime didn't work in a metroid game before, and they created masterpieces.. serioulsy, is that a valid point?
Quote
4. Removing series staples in favor for a new fanbase (mainly the hacknslash players)
etc.
Seriously? I mean, seriously? do you want motorcycle skeletons or what? everything that have been promised and shown looks very Castlevania ish, only with a different art direction, that's all.
I'm not blaming you, I'm sure you are a very hardcore fan (Like me) and are very afraid of how bad things could turn out to be, but, hey, if it's good, why do we oposse to that?  :) And I don't know why we couldn't have the 2 sagas, Euro and Japo, so, we could have the good old storyline (We love it even if it's messed up) and classic gameplay and also the reboot

Funx2 IMO :D

About the soundtrack compilation, is there any chance of getting the last CD (The one with the remixes) separately? sounds a-m-a-z-i-n-g.

Edit: Typos  :-[

Post by: crisis on March 11, 2010, 11:34:03 PM
Motorcycle skeletons were never a series staple, I was referring to other stuff. And to my knowledge nobody on the forum is boycotting LoS, so I don't know where you're getting that from. Also, IGA's team wasn't the only team that made an attempt to turn CV into 3D.

I'm against having "2 sagas under 2 companies", because instead of the whole "we do our thing & you do your thing", they could be working together to deliver an amazing product for everybody. You think the canon is messed up now? Adding another continuity will make things worse, even after Cox has said he sees no problem with fans trying to include LoS into the timeline (despite saying the game is not canon). Catering to 2 different fanbases, when they should be trying to mesh both together, is unnecessary. I'm just looking at the big picture  ;)

Wow she's arranged The Vampire's Stomach and Requiem for the Nameless Souls? I'm suddenly sold on this collection.

Do the green buttons on the official site link to samples of the tracks? I'd guess this, but when I try to connect, my internet connection stops working.

I am uploading the samples to rapidshare so you can download it, I will update the previous post where the tracklist is with the link. I hope it is not illegal to share the official samples. Moderators?

I won't be getting the soundtrack after all. I ended up having to spend the money on a (admittedly) much needed new computer instead so I canceled the order. That and after the fact, when I had at least half of what I needed to get it, my finance out right refused to help me pay for it because of the price (and the fact that it was 'just a soundtrack')--yet ended up sending MORE than that because he was willing to help me get a new Wacom Tablet, which to him is 'more useful'.

Ah well. I only wanted the latter of the thing anyway.

I'll see what I can do about uploading some stuff when I get it. Ass-slow 'net connection, but y'know.

Thing is, I rip all my music to AAC format, and I'm assuming most would rather have MP3s. So, I'll probably rip 'em twice. Anyone have a preferred bitrate? Ha!

Well, I'm certainly glad to hear this will be on iTunes. The trouble is, I already own most of the other albums on there, so I couldn't justify buying the full set (that and the economy). If the soundtracks were complete, that would be another story... It's too bad though they won't have copies of the MSX, Kid Dracula, and Medal albums on iTunes.

But who knows, I might change my mind eventually.

BTW, any word on the Dracula X radio album?

Play-Asia has a listing for the Konamistyle bundle (the box plus the ReBirth and audio drama CDs), "pre-orders opening soon." I might just cancel my NCSX order and get this. Not like the drama CDs really mean anything to me, but they would be neat to have regardless. That and the price on Konami's site converts to about $300, which would be the amount I'd pay for the box and ReBirth soundtrack on Otaku.com should I choose to order from them instead. (They're selling the ReBirth CD for $50. What????)

So, yeah. Three options: let the NCSX order go through; cancel from NCSX and order box and ReBirth from Otaku; cancel NCSX and order Konamistyle bundle of epic proportions from Play-Asia when it's available to order—if it ever does become available; I may have already missed my chance since the box is already out and it's saying pre-orders will open soon.

DAMMIT! I hate not knowing what's up and what to do! Why can't I see into the future????

There's also the fourth option: Cancel the order and just not buy the damned thing. :) The Coil Colour Sound Oblivion box set really set me back.

I didn't know about the Konamistyle bundle. Yeah, that one will probably be around $330 through Play-Asia (they tend to mark things up a bit).

I'd honestly take a good look at the album to start with. Is this something you really want to get? I mean, half the albums are incomplete. I suppose you could go through and tally them up (at least the ones you can still buy...)

Let's see...

SotN, DXC, and CoD go for $9.99 on iTunes. Plus, they contain more music than is on the album. CotM/HoD goes for $25; Judgment is $26. CV Chronicles is $35. Best 1 is $21, Best 2 is $29. Apocalypse...well, you can find that used. About the only one you can't buy anymore is the Dracula X album (and the Kid Dracula and Haunted Castle - though the PCE soundtrack is in MUCH better shape on the DXC album). AoS/DoS goes for $50 and Portrait of Ruin is $44 (wtf, vgmworld? these used to be $30!). I guess if you didn't own a single one, it would be more worth it because you'd be spending about as much and still not have everything (Best 1 and 2 are pretty much complete as-is). Remember too these albums come with more music than is in the box set. The only things you don't get are the remix album and the medal album. So it's kind of hard to judge unless you didn't own a single album. I still haven't seen the remix album on iTunes in the US either.

Personally, I haven't been that interested because a) I'm poor and b) I already own most of those albums and c) half the soundtracks are incomplete anyway. While I would certainly like to support the artists by buying the album, I really can't justify buying some incomplete albums. But who knows - I've been keeping my eye on it.

Against all logic and reason (which you've just posted, and things I've already contemplated, ha ha), I want the thing anyway. Not entirely sure why—I already own most of the soundtracks. Perhaps for an insane collector's purpose. The packaging even looks like garbage: nineteen slim jewel cases in a box. Kinda crappy and budgety.

Yet something in me wants it. Why? WHYYYY???

Although, if dissatisfied, I could probably sell it to someone for the same amount I paid, perhaps make a bit of profit too.

But there are far better things I'd rather have right now. More Coil CDs, a DSi XL... Argh.

Edit: Ah well. *Throws hands up in the air* I think I'll pass on this. :) I'll leave it up to someone else to supply the VBR 320kbps MP3 goodies. I already own most of these soundtracks and in their completed states.

Mostly I just want to hear the arcade game music and Yamane arrange album, as well as the Vampire Killer (MSX) and Kid Dracula scores (both of which I have a taste of on the Dracula Music Collection CD), and the Legends score. Everything else I own physical copies of (or in the case of Order of Ecclesia, the MP3s that I believe Kamirine supplied years back of the two-disc OST).

Thanks for helping to put things into perspective, CapCom, ha ha.

I also really want to hear the Contra/Castlevania ReBirth OST. If someone could kindly rip that in high quality (VBR 192 or higher, please), that'd be great. Though I'll likely order a copy eventually if I can find it cheaper than $50. :x

I did notice after downloading it that the old songs sound a little better. It could just be a slight volume increase during mastering and nothing more, but there is a difference, and I do prefer the newer versions. The NES and Game Boy tunes are clearer; also, I own a bootleg of the original Dracula X OST with Bloodlines on disc two, and it may just be because mine's a bootleg and the official release sounds better, but the Bloodlines songs sound way better on this box set.

Glad Haunted Castle has the bassier tunes and not the crummy weak ones from the Oretachi CD.

Also: the librarian's theme, ha ha. Interesting they put that on the SOTN CD. But why remove the prologue song? That one's so rockin'; shame they removed it.

I dunno, I may still order this thing. The older songs do sound better, and I like the Vampire Killer, Legends, Haunted Castle, and Kid Dracula NES and GB tunes. Trying to see if Alex from Otaku.com can acquire and sell the Konamistyle bundle.

This. I really want this soundtrack.  :D I think I may order it on it's own to be honest. I found the rest of the whole thing, and all I really needed was disc 1, 2, 5, 17, and 18. I own copies of all the rest.

I'm not really in to the last disk. There isn't anything special. But the Arcade's music is amazing, and I now think that it is my favorite Castlevania sound track. If I knew how to upload music and had the time, I would.

The Arcade soundtrack is friggin awesome.

As for Michiru's cd...it definately wasn't as good as I thought it was going to be. I didn't like any of the jazz tunes (and actually quite fond of jazz), the original songs were decent but didn't really remind me of Castlevania (actually, I kept thinking of Sailor Moon...) and the rest were decent. The one IGA helped her with had me laughing. It didn't sound bad persay, just really...I dunno, Jpop-ish? Again, not exactly what I'd think of Castlevania wise. It wasn't a horrible song just...unbefitting.

I loved Requiem for the Nameless Souls though. I even forgave the Sailor Moon sounding beginning in favor of the violin treat behind it.

Overall, I'm glad I got the entire thing. Haunted Castle's ost is awesome, I never had (for some reason) the Adventure soundtracks, though Revenge is my favorite and Legends...though I don't like the game much, I forgot the soundtrack isn't half bad. Vampire Killer is actually pretty darn sweet.

Oddly, Legends' version of "Bloody Tears" is probably my favorite out of any game. I really love the sound of it, especially that super driving bass rhythm. When I first got the game "way back when," I would just fire it up on the Game Boy Color with headphones on and just enjoy the tune. I don't think it's nearly as bad a game as people say.

I dunno, when I played the game, it was after playing both the adventure titles first and it just felt like a huge step backwards, in a bad way. The story didn't really help me like it much more either and I actually like the stories in CV games. XD

Though I forgot how good the music was. I actually wish they would take some of the music in the game and remix it for later games. The music shouldn't be ignored just because the game wasn't the best.

I've been keeping tabs on it since before its release, but I'm thinking about getting it for my birthday in September. But from what I can see, it's a limited edition release. It just came out in March, so there's probably a pretty good supply, but play-asia already has it on backorder. Is it a limited edition release or am I reading it wrong? Or will the supply run out really quickly? Just wondering.

Well, it's a Konamistyle special release, so don't expect to see it still available in the coming years.. but if it does pop up, i'm sure the asking price will be a lot.

Everytime I've seen something like this it's only available for pre-order. The DXC and OoE konamistyle editions were only available like that, which is why I got my Best Music Collection as soon as it was available for pre-order.

That's what I figured. I was a big collector for Pop'n Music, another Konami series. I have Konamistyle limited editions of two of the games - I preordered one and got the other as a gift, so I wasn't so sure about the timeframe for the latter. But I do know from experience that once a limited edition item is gone, it's gone, unless you want to ebay it for astronomical prices.

Will they ever print a normal release or is it going to stay exclusively konamistyle? I'm assuming the latter, because it's such a big collection, but I'm not sure.

I'm just bummed I couldn't get ahold of the bundle with the ReBirth OST and drama CDs (and cute little pouch). The box and ReBirth OST I can get separately, but for the sake of collecting—even though they're otherwise completely useless to me because I don't know Japanese—I'd like to have the drama CDs.

Ohhhh well. Doesn't look like I'll ever be getting that. Did Play-Asia have a preorder for the bundle? I should have paid attention.

I was really bummed because I got the collection, it came in the mail, then literally, a week later they were selling it with the 2 drama CD's, the Rebirth CD and the pouch for the same price I paid for just the Collection. lol, Konami incompetence. I bought the box set and am currently ripping all the discs to AAC (and tediously renaming all the tracks to their English titles), and on the Rondo/Bloodlines CD, they put "Slash" and "Op.13" in the wrong places. The track names are listed appropriately on the CD insert ("Slash" is Stage 4' and thus is after "Beginning", Stage 4; "Op.13" Stage 5', right after "Ghost Ship Painting", Stage 5), but the songs themselves are swapped. What the hell, really? Though I'm noticing these tunes are sounding a little juicier than even what's on the second disc of the DXC OST—again, just a bit of a levels boost, probably nothing more, likely done during disc mastering, but it makes the sound quality a little clearer.
