When I think of scary music in these games one thing has always been a mainstay. The fadeout.
I really see a deviation from Castlevanias of the past musically and theme wise. It is a horror game for better or worse, not just an action game although that is one of the forms this series has taken on over the years.
With that said, what are (in your opinion) the scariest Castlevania songs?
For me (in no patickler ordah)
Title Screen for SCIV
Start and password for CVII
Heart of Fire CVI
Etude for the Killer CV Chronicles
Nightmare for CVIII Japan
Within These Castle walls CVII
Poison Mind CVI
In the Villa CV64
Meeting Dracula the first time in CV64
Door of Holy Spirits SOTN
Any boss theme from CVIV
Stalker CVI
Creature of the Depths CV Chronicles
Dracula rises from grave SCIV (great soundtrack)

CV's "Poison Mind"
CVII's "Password"
CVIII's "Password Screen"
Bloodlines's "The Discolored Wall"
SotN's "Abandoned Pit"
SotN's "Cursed Zone"
LoI's "Statues Born of Darkness"
LoI's "Prelude to the Black Abyss"
LoI's "Aria of Nightmare"
LoI's "Misty Moon Pagoda of the Demon Realm"
LoI's "Prison of Eternal Torture"
CoD's "Aiolon Cave Temple"
CoD's "Infinite Corridor"
CoD's "Dracula's Castle"
-

Abandoned Pit from SotN:

CV's "Poison Mind"
CVII's "Password"
CVIII's "Password Screen"
Bloodlines's "The Discolored Wall"
SotN's "Abandoned Pit"
SotN's "Cursed Zone"
LoI's "Statues Born of Darkness"
LoI's "Prelude to the Black Abyss"
LoI's "Aria of Nightmare"
LoI's "Misty Moon Pagoda of the Demon Realm"
LoI's "Prison of Eternal Torture"
CoD's "Aiolon Cave Temple"
CoD's "Infinite Corridor"
CoD's "Dracula's Castle"
The LOI songs are a good call and Infinite Corridor is a winner too.

I agree the villa's music from CV64 is one of the scariest songs (by the way the song is titled "silent madness"). I also think that the music from the tunnel stage with Reinhart in CV64 is scary too.
-
The CV songs that always evoke a sense of uneasiness and scariness to me are:
Intro for SCIV
Password for CVII
Villa from C64 (Specially at first when the dogs come out)
-
Wandering the Crystal blue. Very very beautiful, but scary in that stage ;)
-
Curse Zone, to me, is the scariest song of any Castlevania game.
I remember the intro to Simon's Quest scaring me as a kid. We lived in an old house, and I had to play it upstairs alone. The night music from that game was kind of scary, too, and helped with the day/night contrast a lot.
-
When I was small probably the night theme to SQ.

When I was small probably the night theme to SQ.
Oh, you mean Bloody Tears :)
-
Oh, you mean Bloody Tears :)
nah that be the day theme. The night one in those dark towns with all those green zombies used to get to me a lil' in a dark room back when I was 5 and playing it for the first few times.
-
The Night-time tune is called "Monster Dance". :3
-
U sure??
I really need to play SQ again :P
Not that I mind :D
-
Why oh why was "Monster Dance" never used in a CV again? It's a little short maybe, but they could extend it and use it in some kickass graveyeard/swamp level or something... It always made me feel very uneasy when I was little, but in a good way.
(Off topic) Speaking of SQ; Konami should've used "Silence before daylight" in the town in Order of Ecclesia... I can't believe they missed a perfect opportunity like that...
-
I agree! I was really hoping I'd hear it. x(

this one is brooding fear for me..

and the Room of Close Associates from CV4:

-
Sotn's Door to the abyss.... I'm surprised people aren't saying this one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdtcJnW5Qaw&feature=related Abandoned pit also...
It's these two songs that showcase WHY i love sotn's music..So much emotion and feeling...it convicts emotions.
-
Dracula rises from grave SCIV (great soundtrack)
This. I love that song.
Although, honestly, Metroid always did a better job of scaring me than CV.
-
I'd say the spookiest tune for me is in SCV4's intro story. play that tune in a room with no lights on. :o

In Castlevania IV, the waterfall segment. I don't know if I'm alone on this one but, that song is scary to me. Its really damn eerie.
-
The tune at the waterfall segment fit the environment extremely well; Silent and alone. It's as if every single song was deliberately made to express the stage in which they were featured.

-
Ive always found the start menu/title (last part of Black Mass) from CV Chronicles creepy.
-
It's always fun reading how most of us notice and appreciate those magical little nuances in Super CV4, and it's music. It's hard to find other games that have a mood and tone like that. I feel like Super Metroid on SNES had a mood like that. Any other games??
-
Oh, and.. The Discolored Wall, from CV Bloodlines is surprisingly disturbing..
-
That's the tune that played in the leaning tower of Pisa stage, wasn't it?
-X
-
yes :)

That song definitely fit the CV atmosphere of Bloodlines, dark, brooding, and foreboding.
-
BLOODREIGN! Good to see you old buddy :)
-
that tune in the dungeon in Super Castlevania IV. the whole stage wants to cut you, slice you, impale you, whatever and its sings out a menacing hateful song at you, you sack of meat.

When I first saw William Murderface Murderface Murderface (Murderface Murderface) I thought this guy is gonna have a Hispanic thing going on with his voice. Just a first impression I had. Little did I know.
Little did I know.....

And what about the recurring "Dungeon" theme from CV64 and CV:LOD?
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CflJEE6clVQ
I wonder how that tune would've sounded in 8-bit by way of the MMC5 chip (NTSC-USA) or the VRC6 (NTSC-Japan) chip?
Also: how scary would "Clockwork" from CVIII be? (Original version heard in the link below is from the USA version)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmoiLrnsZw4
(There are variations on this theme as heard in Circle of the Moon, Harmony of Dissonance and Judgment)
I wonder if this tune was somehow planned as an extension of "Silence of the Daylight" tune off CVII:SQ?

What exactly is the title of that song you're referring to?

The intro story tune for SCV4. I've heard all other CV tunes and their veriations yet nothing seems to even remotly come close to the fear factor like SCV4's intro. And I don't say this with a hint of favoritism...it's just downright spooky!
Wait...did I already throw in my two cents here??? I can't remember...now that's spooky!

Cause I love that song, it's creepy, scary and it fit's the entire stage very well being a death trap and all.
-
Chaconne c moll always freaks me out a bit u_u
-
Lessee... many songs in CV4, Tower of Pisa song in Bloodlines, and to a much lesser extent the stage 4 theme from Haunted Castle.

Dude...

The Abandoned Pit from SoTN is the one i find the creepiest.

-
the "Portrait of Zead", very haunting... really creepy in the right setting.
-
The waterfall cave stage from Super CV 4, not so much scary, but it is tense and and kind of creepy
-
Final Toccata is good.
The first part of Black Banquet when Dracula first comes at you "Behold my true form and DESPAIR!!!!!!".
