Has anyone ever experienced sound problems with their DS? I have the original fat DS, and experienced my first problems ever this very evening when I started playing Zelda: Spirit Tracks. During the kinda long cutscene when you first enter the Spirit Temple for the very first time (Hardly a spoiler - it's 30 minutes into the game) the music screws up and you can hear a loud and very painful noise, the kind of sound that could easily turn you deaf. First I thought it was supposed to be there, but it sounds like a chainsaw against metal. When the cutscene ended, the sound went back to normal, but I missed the entire cutscene cause I couldn't concentrate on what was going on in the scene... I just tapped and tapped and tapped to make screechy the noise go away :'( (Should've just turned the volume down, but I PANIKKED OMG)
Hm.. maybe the fat DS isn't 100% compatible with the new DS games, any words on that? Or maybe my copy of Spirit Tracks is faulty? Or maybe my DS is dying.
:(

I'll take a listen when I play a little further. I WAS going to play it today but family computer problems next door (I'm 'the guy who knows about computers', sadly) prevented me from getting past Niko's house at the beginning.

nope never experienced anythin like that. I will say tho Ive been very pleasantly surprised by spirit tracks. I thought itd pretty much suck but its a really good game and a pretty good Zelda

It hasn't happened on my DS, but the first time I used the internet channel on my Wii it crashed and the sound you're describing happened. It's pretty scary. I just turned the Wii off, and tried again. Works fine now.

I have a fat DS (or DS Brick as I call it :D ). I've never played Spirit Tracks, but I have sound issues with Metroid Zero Mission. If I don't put it on headphone mode, the sound is all crackly as if the speakers are blown. Apparently it's a somewhat common problem with that game though.

I had the same problem with Spirit Tracks, but I have a DS Lite.
Sound went chainsaw during a cut scene.. then it disappeared never to be heard again. (I've completed the game)
Love the Game BTW :)

It actually happened again yesterday when I was riding the train, but the music went back to normal when I entered a town. I guess I'll have to live with it. Gonna get myself a DSi someday, cause my DSphat is acting weird in other ways too. :(
And yes, the game is GREAT so far, much better than Phantom Hourglass (Oh how I wish that the Ocean King hadn't built that temple...)... The train transportation system can get a little frustrating sometimes, but you get the hang of it.
All in all, Spirit Tracks is my favourite Zelda since the Minish Cap... (which was too short, but incredibly addictive while it lasted. I have yet to fully appreciate console Zelda... they're so friggin hard, or maybe I just suck at them. Gave up on both Ocarina, Majora and Twilight.) :(

yeah you must just suck =P The console zeldas are fairly easy mode. The biggest thing that adds difficulty to OoT and Majora is the controls
I wish theyd include a "classic" control mode in the new games tho. I despise doin EVERYTHING with the stylus

Yeah I hate only being able to utilize the stylus too for some games. If I wanna go classic I should be able to go classic.

I haven't had the sound issues at all.
I'd say I'm almost halfway through Spirit Tracks, and I haven't heard the sound you speak of.
I have a DSLite. It's also the real game, too, no R4.
Shelverton.: How do you have trouble with the console Zelda games? They have some of the finest controls available, short of having jumping in there.

I dunno, maybe I'm too old. I have no problems with old school Zelda, and my absolute favourite ever is A Link to the Past. I find it a whole lot easier than Ocarina of Time. Then again, I have this problem with just about every game series turned 3D. You would think everyone had gotten over the transition by now, but not me. :( I can beat Ninja Gaiden on the NES blindfolded (not really, but kinda), but give me a copy of anything 3D and watch me DIE over and over and over again. I also tend to lose patience more quickly these days. There were places in Twilight Princess where I just couldn't get by, so I gave up after 5 or 6 tries. Zelda games are LONG, too. I like my games short and sweet. All in all, I'm a hardcore gamer turned casual. :-[ ..but I'm working on it.
