Out of all the enemies in Castlevania, I find Death himself to be the coolest of them all.
Why?? He is death for cryin out loud!
Anyhow, how badass he might be, in some games he truly suck.
But let us not discuss that now, instead let us talk about this:
Which version of Death is your favorite, and why?
Mine in is the one in Rondo of Blood, especially his second form.
He dos not turn into a big monster or anything like that, he just throws his cloak and goes all martial arts on you, and he is very good at it.
Its hard in a challanging way, and it looks all bad ass. He really rips the life out of Ricther with that scythe he have.
-
id say my favorite reaper would be the one from the beginning of symphony of the night, not the one you fight as a boss, the one that takes all your stuff away, i just loved the way he looked and how hed twirl his scythe, and the voice is just perfect.
-
I'll take the one from Super Castlevania 4. He had a cool intro that was all the more enhanced with the ominous red glow that came off his cloak. And it was also amplified by the BGM tune 'Room of close associates'. He had no second form but he was fast and so was his standard attacks. But once he slowed down on the other side of the chamber he would draw you into him whilest throwing his big spinning scythe blade at you 'Double whamo!'

To me the best one(s) are the one from RoB second form and the one from Castlevania 64 / LoD.
I believe the one from CV64 is the most well presented Death ever.

Same with me. That entrance was really badass.
-
Same for me on the Symphony intro Death. The coolest one you fight thuogh has got to be Rondo.

Agreed.

Rondo of Blood's Death is my favorite. It looks like he's wearing a top hat, so I like that, even though he really isn't.
Kind of a small sprite, but maybe you can see what I mean

All I can say is not Simon's Quest.
-
*glares at Munchy* Nothin wrong with Simons Quest! I like that death. CV2 and CV4 deaths are my fav
-
Rebirth's left a great impression on me. Now only did he look really badass, but he had nice great new attacks. It could just be new game excitement, but I'd vote for that in the classicvania category at least.
SotN intro Death was one of my favorite designs as well. PoR had some neat attacks.
-
Rebirth's Death was pretty cool, but I really liked Samurai Death from RoB
-
I must agree that SotN intro Death is cool, but the Fight in that game was LAME!!
I still need to play Rebirth (Livin in EU sux at the moment).
And you guys are gettin my hype up for the game!
-
I like them all, but I gotta admit that rebirth's death is definitely one of the coolest.
-
I havent got to death in Rebirth yet... I need to play that some more
-
IV's Death by faaaaaaar. The way he glows and blurs, the noises he makes, the music, his patterns... The dude's freakin' scary and bossome.
-
I think it's not easy to choose.
Castlevania IV introuduces Death with impeccable timing, after fighting Slogra and Gaibon, he's the last entity protecting Dracula. He arrives as if a last-defence trap has been sprung, and is summoned from another dimension. A genuinely eerie sprite with a gorgeous translucent, otherworldly effect. That last blow dealt on him feels so satisfying.
But then there's Rondo's ghost ship level which is a series highlight, and while it may not seem a natural habitat for Death, it works well, especially when he jumps down onto the mast with you.
I'll also mention the original Castlevania: where he was pretty tough if you weren't properly prepared.
-
I'm torn between Rondo's Death and SOTN's. In both games he is there in the beginning to bother you and then he comes at you later on. I think the second (ninja) form of Death in Rondo was bad-ass, but the way Death looked in his original form in SOTN was just awesome.
I have yet to see Death from CV:Rebirth, but I have heard he is pretty cool.
-
i respect the flourish of IV, however as far as fun and noteriety i kinda go with the original.
without useing holy water to lock him in place, i have friends who still cant kill him after 25 years of life.
i love getting in a flying sickle vs 4-way tire iron gun fight with him.
-
I know I'm likely to be rendered deviant and pariah by my opinion, however I must needs venture that my favourite version of Death was in none other then Bloodlines. Cry all you like about it being a boss rush, I liked the way they made it link in with the character, as I've always assumed that Death gets the souls that Dracula ensnares in the end. Before anyone starts talking about Soma, however, let me remind their fledgeling selves that Dracula was dead for eternity by the point Soma was able to eat souls, and thus the agreement probably revoked.
tl;dr: Bloodlines FTW, Death's got necromancy. ;)

Really loved Rebirth's Death, rocks. I mean, it's creepy!

Death from Bloodlines was also an interesting one. He even had the spinning scythe attack from his SCV4 counterpart! The bossrush before you fight him was an added bonus. Sort of like the cards of fate. 'choose and die' kinda deal. That picture of death from the rebirth game looks quite good too. But I'll need to play the game itself before I can make a proper analogy.

Yeah I haven't played ReBirth yet but I watched the boss fight with death via youtube. I have to say I might have a new favorite Death now.

That was really mean of you.
I have been avoiding images like these, and only seen one single level gameplay trailer too se how the game played.
Now you spoiled the suprise :-[
But you are right, he does like awsome.
To bad I can't get the game.. yet.. if it ever comes to EU.
-
Please forgive me :( I'm just used to spoil with all IGa games, I mean, they are the same! :P

They are? I havn't noticed.
I don't really know what games Iga made, but I find them all to be quite different to each other, but still similar enough to be recognized as Castlevania Games.
And if they are the same, how can you pick a fav Death?? ::)
-
You said it perfectly below about CV4's Death :) I also liked CV1's Death. It took me a few days to beat him (I was around 12, and not that skilled haha) so he left a big impression on me as an ominous mo'fo, and I remember thinking, wow this is the last guy before Drac himself.. he's no joke :P

It was a kind of joke, relax xD, they are the same because you know that Dracula will be killed 5 minutes after being brought back to life without harming mankind, at all; and the games are expected to be far more similar than a healthy "Occassional rehash of old themes from the series"...
Stay cool my friend :)

Im cool :P
Didn't you notice the joke at the end..
Shocking! Giving a joke as an answer to a joke :D <-- jokin.. :P
Seriously thou.. in several games he does harm mankind, and is awake even before the game starts.. But I do see your point.
OT
Still like Rondos death the most ;)
-
I like Rondo's and SOTN Deatgh personality, it's very very confident, in POR and HOD he flies from the heroes, but in ROB and SOTN he confronts them and even likes to play with them. And SOTN voice acting=win! ;D

Yeah :)
And he is quite confused in PoR.. He never noticed Brauner took control and having Drac locked up in the throne room.. ha ha :D

Death from Super Castlevania IV. I get chills down my spine after seeing him almost try to suck out your soul and call you to him. Really ominous and scary, you really know who it is you're messing with.
-
Well I was going to say CVIV.
But....................

Yeah mine is better. :P

The one from Castlevania 2. Because I love me a good challenge.

Death from CV2 was difficult?? I found he was the easiest of all the death entities you battle.
-X
-
And you don't have to fight him at all..
-
My favorite version of myself is in The Adventure Rebirth, i'm so badass in that game hehehe.
