Title: Goosebumps
Post by: MeSako on January 30, 2010, 10:20:35 AM
Have any Castlevania game given you goosebumps?

When I played Order of Ecclesia, and entering The Castle for the first time Shanoa says:
"I am the morning sun, come to vanquish this horrible night"
I got them all over my body!

That line was so darn epic that I just stared at the screen, unable to continue for a while ;D
I loved the reference to Simon's Quest, that actually is one of my top 3 Castlevanias :P

Super Castlevania 4, when you fight Dracula and friggin THEME OF SIMON kicks in. It's one of those gaming moments that I shall always remember. And I don't really care for the song as a level theme, but when it returns as the final boss battle theme I get goosebumps all over.

That was epic! It was like the final, FINAL struggle against evil and it was captured so well too. I was also surprised when Shanoa said those lines.

I get goosebumps when ever I see that cutscene in CoD in which Hector uses the incantation.

"Heed my words o great powers of darkness.  Release to me one of the tortured souls.  Let me infuse him with my life force and awaken him to the world of the living.  Immaculate being appear before me now!!!"

I got goosebumps, the first time, when I saw the prologue of SotN. The whole inital encounter, the dialog between Richter and Dracula(major epicness), the battle itself and the prologue text while "Moonlight Nocturne" plays brilliantly, setting the stage to Alucard arriving at Castlevania. To me, who basically skipped most of the other CV games prior to that(aside from the first three), it was like, "Holy crap, since when has Castlevania become so theatrical and epic? I love it!!".

"Overture" smacks in the moment Jonathan and Charlotte appear at the steps to Dracula's Keep in Portrait of Ruin.  More of an "Oh, SHIT!!!" moment than a goosebumps moment; a great memory in any regard.

CVII boots up, "Prologue" kicks in, and I'm instantly transported to the first time I played it when it was released. Works every time.

Likewise with the final stage of Bloodlines, as soon as that first note of "Calling from Heaven" kicks in, I'm off with the Fey.

The first time I got into the Watch Tower in CV64 I got goosebumps from the music, I love it.
Playing Rondo of Blood for the first time was also very exciting, I never thought I'd play it, and as soon as it booted up I got all sorts chills.

Everytime I played through SCV IV with the lights out and the volume up would cause some goosebumps back in the day. Even today when I listen to the score on my stereo with the lights out, I will get flashes of the game in my head that induce pleasant chills at times.

As for Shanoa's lines spoken before she plunged into Dracula's castle... I was wary of all the odd little plotholes in the game up until that point, so I was kind of playing with my tongue firmly in cheek. Then she said that. . . . And I smiled. Not a goosebumps moment at all, but definitely a fine Bravo moment.

I agree. One of the most memorable moments in the series. It really gives a feel of the game coming full circle.

I always liked the short victory tune that played right after you beat Dracula in the first game. It kind of adds to the sense of accomplishment.

The last time I remember getting goosebumps was probably playing DXC, and it's after Dracula's been beaten: he says something (can't remember what), and Richter flatly responds with, "I'm a Belmont. That's my job." It's somewhat cheesy, yet totally awesome at the same time.
