I thought it was good in a "Classic Universal Pictures" type of way.  That implies that it carries a lot of the quirks (including some of the cheesyness) of the old films, which makes it charming, while at the same time it's modern.

It's interesting the Universal studios id revisiting all their old horror flicks such as 'The Wolfman' and 'The Mummy'. I guess we wait for 'The Creature of the Black Lagoon' now.

The only bad part of this movie imo was Del Toro's acting. I've seen him act very fluidly in some films, but in this, it was like watching a block of wood read lines from a script.
