Title: What "Rebirth" meant.
Post by: Eric Roman on March 29, 2010, 07:59:24 PM
While smashing through Gradius Rebirth (a while ago), I came to this conclusion:

Konami's "Rebirth" titles are merely contemporary editions of its early, franchise-based Game Boy releases.  Gradius Rebirth is Nemesis, Contra Rebirth is Operation C, and The CastleVania Adventure Rebirth is self-explanatory.  Konami just improved how it went about disguising the source material as the line progressed.

That's all there is to it.

(...except for the reasoning behind the infuriating instrumentation and the rapist song selections made for CV ScRewBirth.  Reincarnated Soul over Battle of the Holy??? REALLY?!?!  File Load for an entire stage?!)

I agree. It definitely seems that's what they were doing.
Also, the musical choices for CVR were, indeed, very crack-headed.

I did like New Messiah and Aquarius.
The "Oldschool Arcade" Synth they're using is peculiar too, since it makes things sound like Haunted Castle or Gradius III Arcade.  Good old Motorola YM chiptune.

Too bad I didn't realise this until after CV Rebirth was released.  :(

Yeah, I was pretty miffed that File Load made it in over, say, the song from Rock Castle, which was mega badass.

Glad they used the best High Score jingle in history, though. Love that song so much.

Does it matter??
I find the games being awsome anyway.

If you like it, you like it.  There just seemed to be some confusion as to what was really going on when the Rebirths were coming out, especially the last one; I can faintly recall reading something like, "CastleVania Adventure Rebirth isn't supposed to be The CastleVania Adventure...!" in one of its threads.

As for Gradius Rebirth, like I said, I smashed through it...and with a smile.

It's pretty hard to f@#k up Gradius. You're Vic-Viper flying through levels of unimaginable chaos and adventure! But with game like contra and Cvastlevania then you gotta be careful on how it's done.

It was never supposed to be the same game (no big point in that), but it does tell the same story.
Never played Gradius though. Never liked these games.

I'd say my chief complaint about their ReBirth games are their length, but then again, they're very arcadey in nature and I could probably only take so many stages of their horrific Hard modes.

What ReBirth REALLY MEANS:

ReBirth = $$$$

No offense to those who just realized it,but that the impression I have gotten ever since I have seen the Contra Rebirth gameplay.  I mean I have been saying constantly that CVR is not suppose to be a straight remake at the Rebirth topic months ago. The Rebirth doesn't necessary means a graphical remake but is a reference to the word, "Rebirth," which could means a revision of something.  Just that I scratch my head at those who were pissed that Castlevania Rebirth since it isn't a remake of a sh&&& game and screams blasphemy because of how unfaithful it is to the original.  I mean, it isn't suppose a graphical upgrade like Resident Evil Gamecube as to the original RE game

In regards to the topic poster, I didn't know that games were reiteration of the gameboy series.  I originally thought that Gradius was a loose remake of the original--or rather a reiteration game that takes the various elements of the older games.  Good to know that the games are reiterations of just the gameboy games.

There was no confusion for me since the other Rebirth games weren't straight remakes.  I think people were confused since they really wanted a CV adventure remake.  I don't know why the people here are so into the past, no offense, but I get the vibe that people would prefer anything nostalga regardless whether the updated game is enjoyable--Dracula X chronicles, Sotn psp update, Castlevania Chronicles, etc.  That theory makes sense considering how a lot of ppl here hates IGA for ''anal-raping'' the Castlevania franchise.

Usually, crappy games get remade into something different rather than being the same but with prettier graphics

I never thought CVtAR was a straight upgrade, either.
But when it was first mentioned that these were probably all GB games at their core it made perfect sense.
Especially when I remembered the elevator part in Contra ReBirth stage 2.

They could've called it just "Castlevania Rebirth" and no one would've complained.
If you're gonna call a game "Castlevania Adventure Rebirth" you could at least use the original soundtrack. Reason? Cause it would've been awesome! I really like the songs they choose instead, but I just don't understand why they couldn't at least put ONE song from Adventure in it? It would be easy to remix the original music, but instead Konami went out of their way NOT to use any of it? I don't get it, and I never will.

Did they even use the Game Over jingle last heard in Harmony of Dissonance?

I absolutely loved Castlevania ReBirth, it was quite a surprise to see a new age Classicvania after a period of many Metroidvanias. I hope they make another one soon, I love them. I prefer my Castlevania straight forward and somewhat linear.
