We all know that Samus is the heroine of the Metroid series. But, we don't know too many details about her. All we know is that she is someone with a special suit that allows her to fight and she works mostly as a bounty hunter, but also tends to work for the galactic federation.
I want to know more. Like is she human? Does the suit come off or is it apart of her? Speculation on her potential after the events of Metroid Fusion as opposed to before the game.

Having only played Metroid, Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion and Prime (about halfway), I think she is an orphan raised by those bird guys. Genetically engineered etc. And the Space Pirates killed her parents.

Your answers are probably coming soon. Have you been following the Metroid news? "Metroid: Other M" due out August 31st on the Wii is set between Super and Fusion, and is supposed to detail Samus' life as a person, including her relationship with Adam Malkovich, on an all new mission. This game is co-developed by the Nintendo makers of Metroid Fusion and Team Ninja (of Ninja Gaiden fame). It is 3rd-person 3D with first-person options, and the game looks amazing.

Cool!!! I did hear about a new game for the wii, but I didn't get my hopes up because I didn't like either of the Metroid Prime games. Needless to say, I hate first person shooters mainly because you can only see in front of you. At least from a third person perspective you can see everything in front of your character as well as to the sides. For me, it's either side-scrolling, third person from behind, third person from above, or nothing.

Samus Aran is an orphan. Her parents were part of an earth colony called K-2L (not sure if that was the name of the colony or the planet the colony was located), where they were in contact with the Chozo. The Chozo tribe saw something unique in Samus while doing their exchanges with K2L's ambassandors, when Space Pirates did a raid on the planet (not sure of the reason, but something about the colony mining fuel crystals or something).
They wiped out the colony, leaving Samus Aran an orphan. She barely survived and was taken by a few Chozo people. The Chozo seem to have something in their blood that enhanced Samus's human potential. After recovering, they helped her hone her athletic abilities and she was given the Chozo Power Suit, a modular suit which has an energy-based life-support and shielding system. The Chozo tribe is an interstellar race and thus, their artifacts are located just about everywhere, and are instantly accessible to Samus because of her suit and her blood. Samus can interact with Chozo objects even without her suit as a result.
The Chozo have prognosticated her arrival in old scriptures. The hero, the savior, the defender, the guardian (depending on which game you play). They've laid out countless artifacts just for her, it seems.
Oh here's a translated version of the Metroid Manga. It should explain a lot of backstory on Samus. It's in English! :D

Yeah, I cannot keep a constant post count unless I use my semiphenomenal nearly-cosmic powers.
And that'd be a really silly reason to use 'em. xD
