Title: Young or old?
Post by: crisis on June 19, 2010, 10:52:19 PM
Do you like Dracula to look youthful, or aged ancient evil?

If he's old-looking in LoS, would that mean he's been around for hundreds of years?

Definte young and define old... I like how he was in SotN.

He should look young, with sunglasses, neon green shorts, and a Hawaiian T-shirt, holding a surf board and giving the peace symbol. YEAH!

Portrait of Ruin almost hit that look.

Old IMO. His CoD appearance was the best in the entire series.

I like him old. He's supposed to be a creature of darkness that has lived for thousands of years, so the old looking i think suits him best!! ;)

Indeed. Same goes for his VA.

Young. His Chronicles Design was pretty badass =D

Depends on the context he appears in.
I actually like it when they do both like in the F.F.C. movie.

I said young, but I mean younger looking.  In other words, not ancient.  An ancient looking Dracula looks feeble and pathetic.  But a really young looking Dracula looks a pretty boy who is inexperienced and would rather seduce a young woman than destroy all humanity.

I think the best Dracula was the one in OoE.  He was a little young looking but not overly young.  Plus, he looked a little more demonic than in other games.  That Dracula was really badass.

Oh, and Crisis, you forgot the standard I don't know choice:
"I don't know. My mind was recently violated by a dark priest."

My favourite design is the one in Chronicles, is not young but neither old, like a demon, I think Dracula is more a demon than a human so I like him to have certain "beauty", however, I don't want more super models (MAthias) or ancient pigs (Legends)

I like both,. Him constantly changing his appearance keeps it fresh. It also makes sense since he keeps getting revived with new forms and abilities. Occasionally through another persons body.

Either way, I feel bad for him. The guy keeps being resurrected, only to be killed within days, sometimes minutes, of coming back to life. It's like "Ahhhhh, back in the world of the living once again. I wonder if this time I'll have time to..." *Belmont suddenly appears, stakes him in the heart, and sends him back to hell*

Poor guy. Young or old, he knows he's going down soon after.  Must be depressing.

I prefer old btw, but I did think having him appear as a child in CV64 was a cool idea.

Personally, I like the fact they keep switching him up. One game he's younger, the next he's older, and the next somewhere in-between. It's what gives him part of his evil elegance - being able to incarnate at whatever age in whatever form he chooses. (like the the Helsing Manga)

Totally. Both forms have their merits; while I prefer his older looking ones, it was cool to see him back to his old-fashioned Bela Lugosi looking self in Portrait.

I can't decide so I'll say both. Dracula is a dark magician. He can look young or old, it's all up to his personal prefrences. Just like in Bram Stoker's Dracula he was old but he could make himself look young again.

I like both young and old Dracula. He can come off menacing as both....hell he even made a creepy kid in CV64. Part of the charm and power of Drac....his many forms to use as he wishes.

Old, for aesthetic purposes. I mean he IS old, isn't he?  He is still quick and powerful, despite his age

I liked OoE's Dracula the best.

Both are fine.  In Bram Stoker's Dracula, Dracula's physical age seems to alter as he gains strength.  He becomes more youthful.  So I have no qualms with the changing appearances...

But if I were to pick one, I would choose young.  It allows for him to look more like the person he was (Mathias) and the person he will be (Soma).  It also makes more sense when you consider that his half-vampire son doesn't age at all. XD

Depends on the plot of the game, if he's weak/just resurrected/not at full strength and old look suits him perfectly, as people say he IS old BUT just as in Bram Stokers Dracula he should become more youthful when he gains more strength. I loved his appearance in Castlevania64, he haunted you as a child used decoys to catch you off guard and when you least expected it he stabbed you in the back.

definitely old, I loved how he looked in SOTN and as far as I know, vampires in Legends don't exactly need to seduce women with pretty boy faces, they do it with their charm...vampire charm  8)
anyway I like him older as to signify the fact that he is thousands of years old, experienced, strong, and powerful. IMO that's better than an emo teenager that's going to "kick youer Azz"

For the Historical aspect, I probably prefer Dracula in his prime, given that is when he sold his soul to become what he was.  Drac rising from the grave, well, I'd like him to look dead-ish and evil, sort of like Lestat in Interview.  A vampire gone without feeding in lore, especially a powerful one, becomes ravenous and menacing.

IDK, just my opinion.

well you're right I agree with you but, in almost every Castlevania game Dracula Just got resurrected, a few days or minutes so it kinda makes sense to look overly pale, old and powerful

Not to mention mildly disgruntled at having yet another Belmont standing before him ready to lay waste to his ass....

seriously for a guy that's supposedly immortal...he doesn't really live does he? when did ever live more than a few minutes before another 100 year slumber?

Dracula is un-dead. He's neither dead nor alive, hence the term, undead.

so when a belmonts kills again, they're basically unkilling him?

I think the term undead reffers to their immortality only. That they can be killed in a sense, but they cannot die of old age or dieses. Only by someone killing them, can they truly die. But Dracula is the king of vampires. He cannot be killed permenently. He can only be sealed/entombed of a maximum time of a hundred years. However he can be ressurrected prematurely by people with wicked intentions. There was a thread that discussed this very topic. Give it a read if you find it. Just don't "ressurrect" it or Jeorge will have to pick up the whip and smite it once more.  ;)

Depends on if you used the Flame or Silver Knife to kill him in SQ, or the shield rod and Alucard Shield in SOTN....  ;)

heh heh, the shield rod and Alcuard shield combo...seriously, this was way too overpowered, not even Dracula can survive a few moments before dying. nothing is ever challenging once you get both.

Well, in that case, you are looking at roughly 27 seconds from the end of the hideous dialogue and voice acting to the beginning of the rest of the hideous dialogue and voice acting....
