I thought this might be a fun poll. Who do you think the first character you will play as in Castlevania: Harmony of Despair will be the first chance you get?
I'll put in one vote for Jonathan, since he's the most Belmont-esque.
-
-looks around bleakly-
Alucard.
-cries-
-
Gimme Shanoa w/ Melio Falcis.
-
No one. This game is shit.
-
This game will be one of the greatest games ever! ^.^ I'm very interested in using all of them and switching from time to time for great gameplay diversity and fun! ;D I think I might mainly use Charlotte because I like how she uses magic and attacks with the book.
-
I don't has XBawx...
...but if I did, it'd probably be Soma.
...really though, I probably would demo the game first, if possible.

I let you borrow mine.

You lives far though don't ya?
I used to use my nephew's X360 but he sold it for a PS3, so I can't do that anymore.
And I have PSWii so no X360 stuff.
-
It's alright. We'll gather everyone up and LAN at your place. Who needs a ride?
-
I still don't understand why Iga picked the worst characters in the series, minus Alucard, to be in this game. Actually, what I really want to know is why the fuck he created them in the first place.
-
I'm guessing it's because each of those characters handles differently, whereas if there were nothing but Belmonts, it'd all be essentially the same.
I'm kinda surprised DXC-SotN Maria isn't in this.

Richter isn't included either, but they might be added as DLC.
The 5 included in the game already really are some of the coolest, and inspiring characters ever. ^.^

Did you just call Jonathan cool?
-
Jhonny boy just 4 fun
-
Did you just call Jonathan cool?
Of course. He might not be as great as John Morris, but he is still very likable. Deny it as much as you want, but Johathan defeated Dracula like other legendary whip wielders we have known. Of course not without help, but John was technically accompanied by Eric, and Trevor Belmont received a lot of help in his journey as well, but that doesn't make them weak.
-
Shanoa is the only character I give a damn about. The lack of any Belmonts really sucks, I hate how Iga keeps avoiding them.
-
LOL. Jonathan and Charlotte are definitely not cool and inspiring :P Is there really someone who likes them? Besides Affinity?
Shanoa, Soma and Alucard are some of my favorite characters in the whole game series. Which reminds me: when will we have that main artwork in high res?
I wonder who will be included in the future..Albus? Will it be just characters from DS games?
-
I like Soma, Alucard, and Shanoa, but having Jonathan instead of a real Belmont is a real slap to the face.
Oh well, it's not like I'm buying this thing anyways~
-
Defeating Dracula shouldn't make a Castlevania character more likable, considering that 90% of the cast did that. Pfft. But yeah, my main qualm is that we have Jonathan instead of someone like even Richter.
Because SoTN Richter was pretty unique with all his abilities, besides actually being a Belmont. Even if it would mean reusing Richter again. >->
-
I don't own an Xbox either so I'll just wait until someone out there hacks HoD onto the internet. I'll play it then.

A complete crock of shit. Johnathan and Charlotte basically ambushed Drac as he was just getting out of his coffin. Nothing to be proud of. It would be like me hitting you in the face with a baseball bat just as you got up in the morning. Actually that sounds like a lot of fun. Watch your back.
Drac should have won in PoR.

HAY 5 O/
but as for those, Al, all the way, he is fancy, yet awesome.

Simon ressurrected/woke up Dracula in CVII just to beat him down before you can say
"But enough talk, have at you!" Dracula didn't even get to eat breakfast. :P
Jonathan and Charlotte had to fight Dracula and Death at the sametime, even a merged version of Dracula and Death afterwards! No one else in Castlevania defeated a team that powerful. ;D
-
Hm, I'll play as Jonathan. Cause he wields a whip, simple as that. That's why I enjoy Castlevania from a gameplay stand point. You people think too much about storylines, artwork and stuff... like it even matters? They're all video game characters, so none of them are "cooler" than the others. Unless, of couse, you are 14 years old.

This is the stupidest thing I've heard all day. Characters are all designed and written in specific ways to fulfill certain roles. Obviously, some people are going to find certain characters to be more appealing than others.
I don't know about anyone else, but Jonathan's daddy-angst, gimmick dialogue (NO PROBLEM LOLZ), and snarkiness (I CAN KICK UR ASS DEATH), make the character thoroughly out of place and downright lame compared to the series' more understandably stoic characters.
-
If it ever comes out on PSN, I'll probably pick Soma first. I think he's the coolest of them all. Also, I'm 23 years old and just said that. Does that make me uncool now? ???

Simon was also afflicted with a curse.

Not to mention Simon already defeated him fair and square earlier.

I'm talking about how a VG character plays, not what they say in cutscenes. I'm not interested in their personality and can honestly say that Simon/Jonathan/Alucard/Soma/Shanoa/whoever are equally poor characters. I was merely saying Jonathan has a whip, which is more fun than a sword IMO. You just kinda proved my point there. No need to get defensive though. People are all like "OMG I WILL NEVAH PLAY AS JONATHAN!!!1" but they defend other characters that are just as embarrasing.
-
To answer the poll, Nathan "Radd" Spencer, because instead of playing this tripe I will instead play BC: Rearmed again.

Simon earned it, after having fought Dracula alone in his first game.
A weakened Dracula with an already defeated Death doesn't equate to the most powerful team ever.
You lose. You get nothing. Good day sir.
-
I hated the final battle in PoR. Not that it was very challenging (cause it wasn't), but it was all over the place and the room felt cramped and claustrophobic - not "epic" like it could've been. I can honestly say that the battle with Brauner - had it been harder - would've made a better final boss battle than the Dracula/Death combo. It was original, fun and kinda epic IMO.

Uzo, you sly rockin' dog, why you so bad ass?
Just because you combine two things doesn't always make it better or more powerful, anyways. Example: Combining slug with salt. Poor sluggie.
I will most likely play Johnnie-boy, however, shortly after Alucard. Soma will probably be the last character I visit, I mean, it's Soma for God's sake. I might not even play him.
-
I'd probably play as Soma first, it will be interesting to see how the souls will pan out in the game. I don't really care that his character was ruined in DoS if he's still fun to play as. Then I'd probably as Alucard. I will never touch Charlotte though. She wasn't even fun to play as in PoR. God I hate that game >:(
-
all these characters have large arsenals to play around with. hence, why we have Jonathan, but no Julius or Richter, who'll probably just be dlc with no collectible arsenol.
-
I hope they don't add Julius. I don't want to see him until 2017, when the 1999 game is finally released.
-
Jonathan????maaannnn....plzzz.... :-\

I can understand where you're coming from, however...
If you're referring to the fact they have an inventory system and can wield different weapons, then that is a pretty weak excuse on their end. Course, then again I suppose not everyone really has a problem with this character roster. It would be neat, though, if the DLC had characters completely devoid of inventories and only had 'core' abilities and/or sub-weapons. I.e. Richter with his acrobatic attacks. Plus random pork chop hidden behind blocks like in the olden days.
Also, DLC blows.
-
Yeah, I think it would be fairly simple to give Richter an inventory system. I mean, they'd just need to sprite two more animations for him so he could use swords and great swords. And Richter would have the added benefits of AIR DASH and LEAP SLIDE. Far more interesting than Jonathan's clunky EVADE ROLL and low range and weak KNEE STRIKE.
Of course, they'd probably make him play more like PoR Richter who was just terrible.
Also, would've been hilarious to see Ayami Kojima redraw Richter in the old style.

Where's the voting option for "None, won't be buying this game because it looks like garbage."?

indeed.

a Belmont should never wield anything but a whip as their main weapon. It's their trademark style and the whip is the symbol of a Belmont's true power. ;D
-
and the "recently violated by a dark priest" option =D
-
No one. Since I don't have X-Box 360...or any current generation consoles for that matter.
But if I had, it would most likely Charlotte or Shanoa. Charlotte practically saved POR for me, for she was fun to play in the game and I hated Johnathan almost from the begining of the game. And Shanoa was interesting protagonist and I liked her gameplay. Also, OOE was first Castlevania that I genuinly enjoyed for a long long time. At least the first, that I enjoyed since AOS.
-
I wish this was released on PS3... :'( But out of the choices, I'd pick Shanoa. I wish Juste was playable though.
