So the best game series besides Castlevania, Metal Gear Solid, FF
and Mario would be The Elder Scroll Series and Grand Theft Auto.
My question to everyone is which series is better?
The Elder Scrolls or GTA?
Also.. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion vs GTA IV.. which
game has more reply value and is more fun to play?
I could say tie but I'm going with Oblivion on this one ;D

I can think of at least 10 franchises that are better than both TES and GTA. But hey, that's just me.
But since we're talking about these games, I'd go with GTA4 cause Oblivion annoyed me with its leveling system. My character turned out really shitty after many hours playing, so I kinda gave up. It seems you need a FAQ to level up properly, and that takes away all the fun. The FAQs I've read are all like: "Whatever you do, DO NOT JUMP EVER!" and stupid things like that. Or maybe I just sucked at the game, dunno. GTA4 was not a big enough step from the PS2 games in my opinion, but I had fun with it while it lasted.

you should give OB another try Shel... get ya some mods to fix and improve everythin you think is wrong with it. It makes a big difference

Oblivion all the way. More depth that is less aesthetic. THey need to come out with another Oblivion tho, and soon. One that has no glitches.

LOL, pessimistic, yet true. In many ways, Bethesda has also been pushing the limits of what they can do on a home platform. Its the only free pass they get.
I still cannot forgive them, though, for the bitch not taking the bloograss depending on the situation ;)

LOL.....there is rhyme and reason to the leveling, just certain types of players get penalized way early in the game.

I'm always super excited for whatever new game Bethesda is working on, but then I always get slightly disappointed. I don't think they're a horrible game developer, but their games are always ridiculously ambitious. I'd say it's impossible to get everything right when the games are as large as TES. Fallout 3 was great IMO though. I have HIGH hopes for Elder Scrolls 5 too. And yes, I'm gonna give Oblivion another chance, but I only have it for 360 so I'm guessing there aren't any patches or mods to improve/simplify the leveling for it. I think Morrowind really nailed the leveling system, and everything else too.. at least for me. It was really fun to play and I never screwed up :)

nope only the pc version has any kinda mods besides the officially released dlc

I'm guessing that certain type is me, rofl. Do you have any quick tips what not to do in the early stages of the game to avoid this? Maybe I'm not strategic enough, or maybe I'm not paying enough attention to stats and stuff. Or maybe I'm just relying on brute force in just about every game I ever play, in combination with power leveling. Which wasn't the greatest idea ever if I recall correctly.

I feel ya. Even making a balanced character has its flaws. You just hit that spot around levels 10-20 where, for example, if you like heavy armor, the types of heavy armor you get your hands on are far too heavy for your character to carry, if that makes sense. It's like, seeing Ebony or Daedric shit start showing up at level 15. You are level 15 in all your skills, but your strength rating is nowhere near where it needs to be to be running around with it.
Well.....given I have experienced the Bloodgrass glitch enough times to build every race to at least level 35 one time, I might have some pointers.

This is news to me. Though I haven't played either, so maybe I'm just missing out on a mindblowing experience, slaying lvl 57 dwarves and gunning down cops from my stolen helicopter.

The only good GTA was Vice City. The rest sucked.

I never had any interest in GTA. I bought GTA2 for Dreamcast, and played it maybe 3 hours tops. I still have it but never really feel like playing it. I know that this one isn't near as advanced as the later comers. But I just don't care about GTA. I love Oblivion, I bought the Game of the Year Edition on 360, expecting maybe not to like it. To my pleasant surprise it's one of the games I put the most time in so far for on 360. About 120 hours. I'd play it more but with so many games to play.... I love running around in the Crusaders gear. Glad I got the GOTY version. I'd say Elder Scrolls is more for me than GTA... even though I've only played the one. I'm not really interested in messing with the older ones. Oblivion is just too pretty I think it'd be too hard to go back on that sort of game. I'd Say I like the game better than Fallout 3 even, accept using the VATS system is so fun. Seeing those eyeballs fly out when you blow up your enemy. You just can't do that with a sword on Oblivion. I will say on a note that all my 'Mainstream' type game playing friends LOVE GTA.

Oh, by the way. Resident Evil, Metroid, and I'm sure plenty of other game series are better than either of these. King of Fighters! Street Fighter is up there too.
