So, I just downloaded the demo, and I beat it.
So far, both main chars are idiots. The girl is a selfish little bitch, and I'd sooner die than be her slave, let alone help her.
-
I love the genre, but I simply cannot get over how awful the characters are in any Ninja Theory games. Heavenly Sword was alright, but that's about it. The main dude in Enslaved looks terrible... like an ape... (oh wait...)
The character design alone is a complete turn-off for me. Still, I'm gonna try the demo and see what it's like. It's really Enslaved vs Lords of Shadows for me this month, and so far it's 1-0 to Castlevania.

why did ninja theory rape journey to the west and put it in a terrible sci fi setting
despite the attempt at creating an interesting mix between sci fi and jungle scenery, the character designs utterly kill it, and even then, the environments aren't even that visually appealing from a design standpoint of view
i like how smoothly paced the platforming is, but i cant help but feel it looks terribly linear and uh, scene-based i guess? the combat looks kinda clunky and not as well developed in comparison though.
-
That isn't platforming, man!
It's basically run til you can't then press A til you can run again... literally!
-
well i just meant in the way it looked, i have concerns with how it seems to operate like they're just a series of lax qtes.
according to gamespot's review, there are multiple paths and etc when it comes to playforming. at the very last it looks to be very fast and not clunky at all so even if there is little challenge, the platforming can still be fun. hmmmmm

The same reason they raped Devil May Cry.
Which is to say, God only knows.

Enslaved is doing a little better than LoS so far, critically speaking..
8.2 fram Gametrailers
8.0 from Gamespot
8.0 from IGN
I am not convinced, at all.

Enslaved is quitte the oppisite to LoS. Good reviews in "big sites" but low scores on the rest. Guess which one has advertisements on those "big sites"? Yeah, you know which one ;) .
I already bought it though, I really need both games to succeed (Shame Enslaved got raped in sales by LoS, and will ever be) because it could mean the rebirth of the forgotten action adventure and some breath of fresh air into the whole bald -space- marine- with- brown- palette- thing around this gen.
I will play it when I get tired of LoS, until then, it's right there on my closet.
lol it might be found by a museum someday as a fossil ;D

Haha, I have too many games like that, especially from the PS2 era. Going through my stuff rcently I found sealed copies of Odin Sphere, GrimGrimoire, Okami, Persona 4 and Dark Cloud 2. And a few others. I will probably never play them cause there's always something new I MUST play. I should call in sick for work and stay at home for 2 weeks, just playing.
Anyway, did Enslaved really get raped by LoS, sales-wise? I wanna know about the sales of LoS so far...

Ha, funny. I have at least 10 PS2 games I haven't touched but still have em. I think I'll play them someday... I even have some on Dreamcast that I have never played. This game looks like one I would buy really cheap. Maybe when I see it somewhere for 10 bucks or less. I still need to play past the first hour of Prince of Persia for 360. And bought the Devil May Cry set for ps2 and only beat/played the 1st. I'm trying not to buy as many game as I used to. So I'll probably pass on this. I wind up with too big of a collection. I'd get rid of a lot of games even, but for how much I can get for some of them, I would rather just keep them. So yeah, probably not room for enslaved on my shelf after all. I'm holding my cash for Dragon Age Origins Ultimate Edition, or should I wait for Dragon Age 2? Damn games! Is Monkey based off the same story as Goku from DBZ is? I thought I hears something about that. The whole tail and staff make me wonder. Monkey doesn't look near as cool as Goku. And I'll admit like some of you seem to say I want to like the character I'm playing.

You should. That game is addicting.

It's a very pretty game but the gameplay is really underwhelming in my opinion. In one hour you have probably already seen everything that's worth seeing. :( I especially hate the combat, which is tedious and sometimes frustrating, even if you can't really die in the game. I didn't find the level design to be as good as in the PS2 Persias either. I hope you like the game more!
-
I pretty much agree with you Shelverton! The combat is no fun. At least in what I've noticed, you have to block way too long, which makes it boring and I've only been able to get hits in by having Elika pounce on them. I think I'd rather be able to die and have the game be more fun. It's a bit odd when I can't jump 10 feet down without it making Elika save my life. VERY ANNOYING! I guess it's supposed to make you jump around just how it wants you to. But it caused me to scream often. The most annoying part is how often the camera adjust a little and while I'm totally pressing over, it acts like I'm pressing up. Then the persian prince jumps OFF the wall! I think the animation of her saving me has become the most annoying thing in a video game in some time!!! If you say an hour is is all there is to see, I believe you. I will TRY to play through it and beat it. Might as well get some achievements. But I don't think I'll like it more than you sadly. Yeah it is pretty though. And it got a 9.3 on IGN.com. LOL! Odd as so many games that are way better get such worse scores. I think we all can think of another game that deserved a better score...
-
Yeah, the constant blocking almost killed it for me. I guess if you play 30 minutes of Prince of Persia you would think that the game was a 9.3, but as time goes by you get more and more annoyed and bored. It's not a terrible game by any means, but I would say a 7.0 is an appropriate score for that game. 9.3 for graphics maybe. :)
As for Enslaved... interestingly enough Castlevania Lords of Shadow opened much stronger than Enslaved, sales-wise. Castlevania had the benefit of being released a little earlier, but accordiong to VGChartz.com the PS3 version of Castlevania entered at #16 (wordwide) while the PS3 version of Enslaved only reached #27. Meanwhile, the 360 version of Castlevania ended up at #20 with Enslaved coming in at #29 for its 360 incarnation.
As of Oct 9th;
Castlevania = approx 148 000 copies sold worldwide
Enslaved = approx 83 000 copies sold worldwide
I was expecting it to be the other way round, but like I said, Enslaved was released a few days later so it's hard to tell. It's also worth noting that Lords of Shadow is not out in Japan yet, but Enslaved is.
-
I hope the Japanese embrace Lords of Shadow, but I've heard that the market for it there is even smaller, odd as they seem to get EVERY release. That is a little surprising that Enslaved is doing less numbers in sales, they even had a big ol' showcase video on XBOX 360's dash the other day. I watched it, and it didn't clinch a purchase. It looked like an alright game and all, but not worth putting in my collection. I think I'd put Prince of Persia on eBay, but I paid 20 bucks for it new, and doubt I could get any more than 10 for it, IF THAT! Prob more like 5. So it'll probably be another dud on my shelf. Sad as I try and only buy truly GREAT games these days. I read reviews and try and weed out the bad ones. Heck I used to buy any Final Fantasy that came out, but haven't bought 13, just doesn't look like a game for me. I will tell you this, out about 30 360 games I own, Prince of Persia is my least favorite. That includes 27 actual games, and I prob have 10 games I downloaded at least, if not 15, so more than 30. I would not be surprised if Prince of Persia sold more than LoS and Enslaved. Which always makes me shake my head in sad confusion of why MOST people don't know what a good game is.
-
weak sales, terrible character designs or not, im still playing this game because I hear andy serkis is involved with this game. Another reason im bu.....im mean renting is because of the combat and platforming.
-
I know this thread is a bit old, but I finally played the DEMO! It does have pretty graphics. I did think the main chick seemed like a bi'atch, yes. It also reminded me of the movie Cybord with Jean-Claude. Well, it didn't take any real skill with the platforming like some others have said. You sort of move/run over till then hit the action button to move. I don't think it looks as cool as the other games of the genre I've played on 360 but I will probably buy it when I can get a mint copy for 10-15 bucks. May not be too long, I love my eBay.
-
News: Enslaved sold 460000 copies worldwide, ouch :-\
And every website coment is blaming Castlevania so, congatulations? O.o
-
Maybe they should blame how much it sucks.
