I would choose CV3. But, when I say 3D I don't mean 2.5D like DXC. I mean a complete re-imagining of the game. Same story, same areas but in 3D like LoS. Also, I would make it possible to get all the characters and change the battle system.
For example, Trevor wouldn't just pick up power ups that change the leather whip to a short chain whip and then a long chain whip. Instead, I would make it like in CoD in which you find magic stones which you can equip to the whip to give is various attributes. Alucard wouldn't be limited to his fireballs. He would have his sword as his primary weapon and his fireballs as a subweapon. Sypha would gain more powerful versions of her spells. And Grant would wield twin daggers as his primary weapon and be incredibly agile. I think such a remake could bring back some fans who are getting disappointed with the series as well as bring in some "fresh blood" if you know what I mean.
What about your ideas? I want to hear what games you want redone and how you would do them.
-
I'd say the two Gameboy games with Christopher.
Or Simon's Quest. That game really has the most that needs fixing.
-
The obvious answer is CVIII, but I honestly think Bloodlines would benefit from today's technology. If MercurySteam were to recreate it, while also fleshing out the story by touching on Quincey Morris' battle, 1999, Belmont Clan's disappearance, etc. it would be a great experience.
-
For me, CV3, CV2, and Bloodlines. In that order of want.
-
I would hope they just leave them alone. DXC was mostly good because it didn't stray much from the original. With remakes to such an extreme extent that everything is overhauled, I can't see them retaining the elements that made the originals so good. I mean, all those re-imaginings of CVI rely on a different number of aspects independent of each other. They're pretty much different games, why be repetitive and reuse a story?
-
well way to be a negative nancy, thernz >:(
It's just a hypothetical "it'd be awesome if they somehow did this," thread, not "how would it'd actually turn out" thread. Nevertheless you still have a point

I'm all for a chronicles 2 & 3 tho ;)

Sides, it doesn't mean the remake can't be good. Though, it's true that they usually aren't good because they try to do some stuff that ends up scrrewing it up. But that doesn't mean it can't be good.

I tried to do a remake of Dracula's Curse.
Even as a beta, it's still racking up hilariously large views on Youtube, and we were just a team of three people!
I'm sure a team with proper artists, programmers, designers, and composers could do the job if a little troupe of guys with some C++ and some free time were able to come up with what we came up with.
STEP YOUR GAME UP, KONAMI! xD

I don′t want 3D Castlevanias. Only 2D and 2.5D.

Here you go:
Castlevania Chronicles: Dracula's Curse Walkabout(1/2) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPnIBhB2WPA#)
Here's part 1 of a walkabout some cool dude did.
Castlevania Chronicles: Dracula's Curse Walkabout(2/2) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v36VMKOoKo0#)
Here's part 2 of that same walkabout.
Again, this was just a beta (you know what, not even a beta, more like an Alpha version). JohnMorris (from the old Forums, the programmer for the game, originally in BlitzBasic, and then ported the code to VisualC++), John Faraone (who researched the candle contest wayyy before the CV3 editor came out), and I (doing the sprites/tiles and the MIDI music) were the main members of the team that cooked this up (with a handful of people sometimes pitching in to do tile/spritework, like Thaddeus and others).
This project is on hiatus, and has been for about two to three years now... but I'm hearing reports of people who are coming forth to me asking to continue it. I haven't looked at their files yet (been busy) but their work seems interesting and is sparking a newfound motivation in me to continue the project.
-
Most importantly, I would like to see a 3D or 2.5D remake of Dracula's Curse, with somewhat lengthy sut scenes, to flesh the story out a bit more. Show some history of the characters and events.
I would also love to see a 3D or 2.5D remake of Castlevania and Simons Quest, but together as one game
So they flow together into one

Sweet stuff right there, Jorge. The animations are quite good and the "Castlevania physics" look spot on. Only thing I find a bit rough around the edge is the stages - in fact the sprites are so good that they feel out of place there, aside from a couple bloody gorgeous stages like the Sanctum. Good work, I'm really impressed.
Keep us updated if you manage to get some progress.
-
I voted for CV1, but only because I'm still working on what I hope will be the ultimate 8-bit remake of that adventure evar!!!
@Jorge: That was some pretty good work there. I hope you can go back and finish it some day. ^_^

Castlevania 3 Remake made in Brasil ;D
The Legend of Castlevania - NEW CV3 REMAKE (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aRRgd67ZCoI#)
-
I saw that homebrew remake of CV3 years ago. I thought it was good too for that stage. It's also a lot better than I thought it could possibly be. While a little rough, it got the basics of the stage design down. All it seems to need is the bosses, the other characters (Alucard, Sypha, and Grant), and rounding the rough edges. Get those done, and I could possibly rival CVs made by Konami. I hope that it gets completed. I probably wouldn't play it if it's a pc game, but I would love to watch the completed product on youtube.
Good luck.Castlevania 3 Remake made in Brasil ;D

Ok. Sorry Jorge, but that Brazilian remake kicks the ass of yours. I wonder how complete it is.

lol sorry crisis-baby
Okay, if anything, I would like a Simon's Quest remake. I would like a game that combines the tendencies of Classicvania and Metroidvania into one. And I feel its concept could be greatly explored in 3D. This vast yet closed countryside, brimming in secrets, like an Icebergvania. Most of the combat depth will come in how the enemy design, how they interact with the environment, their weaknesses, attack patterns, etc. I would use another currency other than hearts. Though, your own moves will come to you the more you do another move, akin to LoI. I would make townspeople still give cryptic clues but I won't make them outright lie. There would probably be a handful of optional relics like LoI. whats with all the loi. Maybe the combat should be more subdued like CV64 but still having the block and dodge mechanics of LoI.

I'll click on that video later when I'm not working.
The image of it already looks awesome (like Rebirth)... it only strengthens my point though: If a small group of people can make amazing games such as that one, why the hell isn't Konami making something amazing, instead of, say, CV:HD or Rebirth (I love Rebirth but will agree that it could've been better).
-
Ehh... Not too keen on that Dracula's Curse remake. It looks really choppy and the hit detection (among other things) needs some work. (I mean the Brazilian one, not Jorge's. Haven't seen too much of Jorge's.)
Finished project could be good. But there should be more to a remake than simply making an old game TEH PRETTEHZ. See REmake, BC Rearmed, etc. My main suggestions would be new bosses where others would be repeated and something to replace those awful, awful "wait for the blocks to fall so you can proceed" sections.
-
That brazilian one looks pretty good, sprite wise. But some of the detection is off... probably has more glitches. From what I've played aroudn with the CV3 jorge did, the movement and such seem pretty spot on.
-
My only complaint about that Brazilian remake is that the Zombies are moving way too fast then what's naturally possible for them. They're Zombies, not Ghouls. Another point is that Trevor looks like his CoD counterpart instead of his true CV3 self. And the final point is his vampirekiller. It's not glowing with power as it should be. The did it on the NES, why not for this remake? The game itself is very choppy and glitchy but once finished it'll play better.
In terms of a CV remake? I'd take the original NES trilogy and do them up in the style of SCV4. Nuff said. 8)

I think it's because sometime, I think around 2004, Konami suffered serious head trauma from which it will never completely recover.

Lawlz!!!
Yeah JohnMorris and I worked very hard on collision boxes, physics, and animations. Although there weren't many enemies fully finished, that which was done, was very well done (the hunchbacks, the bonetosser skeletons, medusaheads), at least in my humble opinion.
-
Simon's Quest is in dire need for a remake 2D or otherwise.
And those CV3 remakes look sweet, but we all know that they wont be finished. :(
(Prove me wrong Jorge!)
-
A Dracula's Curse remake would be pretty awesome. Castlevania Chronicles: Dracula's Curse 3D? :P
-
I'm all for a Castlevania 3 remake.
If Konami remake it for the 3DS, then my guess is, it would be named
Castlevania 3DS: Dracula's Curse. :D
-
CV3 seems to be wining by a landslide and i completely agree! :D
CV3 would be a completely awesome remake IMO if handled correctly.
i'd really like to see it in 2.5d being handled by the same team that handled DXC "i REALLY don't want Cox to handle a remake of this game".
and come to think of it didn't IGA say in a interview the one game he would love to remake the most was CV3?
-
I don't go into fanboy rumination mode often, but I think I have an idea that rules (don't we all!). It's actually been kicking around in my head for several years. Mercury Steam- read this, and make this game. Thx!
I'd love to see a remake of CV1 & CV2, as one game in 3D. And simply call it Castlevania: Simon's Quest. The entirety of Castlevania 1 could sort of parallel the introduction of Symphony of the Night, where you are basically retelling the previous story as a playable prologue. The only difference being that it would start at the very beginning. Something you can jump right into and start whipping things before you're bludgeoned with the story. You could toggle tutorial-mode explanations on how to play the game too, something that'd be nice to get out of the way before you feel like you've started the "real" game (which would focus on CV2).
Compared to the grandness of worlds in some video games today, it'd be entirely realistic for a *relatively* literal adaptation of the NES CV1 Castle to simply be one large, linear level. It's something I can envision as being done awesomely. And just like other games with long playable 'intros' (Final Fantasy 1, Metal Gear Solid 3...), it could have that nice "wow I'm just getting started?!" moment. The Ending of Castlevania 1, with the Castle collapsing and all- could serve as the introduction to the story. That's where you could explain the passage in time, the curse inflicted upon Simon... and how his powers have made ordinary people fearful of him and turned him into an outcast, etc.
To bring back some RPG elements and a greater sense of exploration, I could see that being done in one of two ways for a CV2 remake. You could either have a large, free-roaming outdoor world while the mansions are more like traditional levels when you get to them. Or, vice versa-- the outdoor portions could be more linear like LoS, but have the mansions and towns be these huge, explorable things. I'm confident there would be room to combine both metroidvania and linear levels in something like a CV2 remake.
I'd also be a fan of introducing more weapons and lots of equip-able items. Anything to help bring back that sense of being overwhelmed by details and options that SotN gave us. I see no reason why a Belmont can't use a sword AND a whip. I know LoI tried to throw in some explanation for why Leon's sword was taken away, which only helps strengthen the idea that a Belmont should know how to use other weapons too. Castlevania has become a world with so many different weapons and means to kill enemies... as long as we keep the Vampire Killer as the "main" weapon of the Belmont's, I don't see why a Belmont has to be the most restricted type of character.
Unlike my idea for the introduction, I wouldn't want a CV2 remake nearly as literal, at all. You could have a large world to use in which you could recycle the best ideas from previous Castlevanias, as well as innovate. That era of CV is so loose in story that you could have it fit in the new timeline or the old, it doesn't really matter. Different Vampire lords and other baddies could rule the mansions and have their own little stories. The mansions could be drastically more themed, kind of like the Rock Castle, Plant Castle, etc, from Belmont's revenge. We could see the fear that people have in Simon is based on a "legend" that states that Dracula was... (spoiler- insert LoS reference here). There could be a secret area with Alucard's resting place (assuming the story between CV3 and SotN is still intact), where you jack his 'Alucard' weapons. There could even be a literal 'graveyard duck' this time around. lol ;)
This is why CV2 gets my vote. It would have a lot of freedom to be amazing.
-
Sounds like what they did with Fire Emblem for Gameboy, where you played this really cool story with Lyndis, and when it's over they hit you with a huge-ass story with Eliwood and Hector, to which Lyndis's story was just the introduction to it.
Or the Rondo/SotN thing with the Final Stage. :P
-
An interesting idea, gets the imagination going...
-
Simon's Quest was a great idea but wasn't carried out. Remake that!
-
Actually, thinking about it. If we remake CV1, we'd also be remaking CV4, X68, Haunted Castle, and etc. Therefore, with one remake, we'll have a ton of remakes. This is the most productive and efficient approach.
-
Not a remake, but I'd like a REAL sequel to Bloodlines that draws more upon the "demon huntin' 'round the world" concept than PoR.
-
Simon's Quest was a great idea but wasn't carried out. Remake that!
I wouldn't say it wasn't carried out. IMHO, CV2 is still one of the best CV games ever made in terms of atmosphere. The gameplay and score were fantastic too. Plus with the day/night cycles and non-linear gameplay, it was really something for it's time. I still play it every now and then and it still feels fresh to me in alot of ways.
That said, a 3D remake would be pretty awesome...but I voted for CV3. That game was epic in so many ways, and a fully 3D remake with all those levels/locations reimagined would be stellar!
-
I'm not sure, but I think he meant he it wasn't carried out correctly. Or at least that was what he meant to write and typo'd. And if that is what he meant, then I definitely agree, but even if, I doubt I'd like it as much as DC.
