I am slightly confused. Laura almost killed Gabriel with no effort but Carmilla, a lord of shadow, didn't even really come close. Why isn't Laura the lord of the castle???

Maybe Gabriel was caught by surprise not expecting her to have such great power.

I was really surprised she didn't turn out to be more powerful, I thought for sure there would be some twist with that. Also, I was surprised that she didn't come back later

Indeed. I remember posting about how laura kicks your ass and leaves...

It really did surprise me how much a wimp Carmilla was. I was expecting so much after Cornell, and it all fell flat when she came to fight me.
