Lavish Empire BGM - Castlevania II Hack (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSKXYbvNxNQ#)
Messin' Around... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7cOutEuhCs#)

I remember seeing this a while back. Can't wait to play it :)
lol at floating Simon
-
I love the colors of the gears. The game has so much better texture than any of the new graphics made for the DS titles, barring maybe some backgrounds in OoE and the snow in DoS. The tile usage is just phenomenal and getting all that architecture into it. unf.
My only complaints would be directed at level design, but it's at a pretty early stage and they haven't implemented everything.
I love Thaddeus, he's so good at using black. Well, that's kinda required for a NES game, but everywhere, his use of dark colors is just superb. His 16 bit stuff is so muted yet holds so much clear and crisp detail~
aaaaaaaaaa
-
Is Thaddeus still around? I haven't really seen him.
Anyway, that second vid is pretty awesome. I like how the town was designed... definitely don't remember that in the old Simon's Quest if it were.
-
:o
-
ma those tiles are fuckin SICK for nes style. Thats pretty amazin
-
DO WANT.
-
These delicious tears of mine...;_;
-
Very nice.
-
I really want this now... Really amazing work!
-
Do want, too. Even willing to pay, or make a donation for such great work..
-
The Simon sprite reminds me of Gabriel, with the pointy looking shoulder pads. Looks great, and I love the outdoor musics, especially at night.
-
That's awesome but I prefer the original music.
-

I think it's intended to match more of the original artwork with the armor than the initial sprite. :P
-
The game looks great, but I don't like that the music was changed.
There are no replacements for Message of Darkness and Bloody Tears. :P
-
yeah I didnt like that message of darkness was changed too. The rest was pretty good tho
-
This is a game I'll definitly want to play!! :o My only gripe is that Simon's whip is too short and does not glow as it should. But the graphics are phenominal and putting in new music adds to it's dimension. But yes, the old tunes should've been kept.
-X
-
I love how they're adding music like Reincarnated Soul, Battle of the Holy, Gears Go Awry, New Messiah AND having original compositions. There seems to be a lot more individuality and creativity going into this project than others. The original compositions are just signs of the greater potential this project has imo.
Music here:

That Aljiba track sounds like something out of Shantae. Great chiptunes though.
-

No offense, but I find Bloody Tears to be way overrated. So many more interesting songs in Castlevania.
-
It's my understanding that these guys intend to add the stuff the game was missing like... REAL BOSSES!
That alone would make this game sooo much better. Needless to say, I'm also greatly looking forward to this.
-
No offense, but I find Bloody Tears to be way overrated. So many more interesting songs in Castlevania.
Wicked Child for one, that song get's no love from anyone and has been remixed only once. :(

Woot, another Wicked Child person. Awesome.
This guy did a good job with it on Elec Guitar imo.

I don't mind them adding music into the game since CV2 didn't have a very wide variety to begin with. I don't think they should have omitted the original music either. I would love to see different areas and mansions in the game have their own music, which is something that was always lacking in the original Simon's Quest. But Bloody Tears originated in CV2, and it seems a shame for it to not be in a remake. Just having it as the theme for the first section of woods you travel through would be enough.
There's really no excuse to take Message of Darkness out of the title screen. It may be a simple tune, but it's a perfect mood setter for the creepy and desolate game you're about to start.
-
Nice clip of Wicked Child on guitar! Makes me realize how great that tune is.. Now let's see someone do it on drums.
-
This looks cool but you can't take out the classic music tracks, BLOODY FREAKIN TEARS man!
-
Bloody Tears has already been done to death so I don't really miss it. Plus, it's one of those rare classics that never sounded better than it did in the NES original. In my opinion, the song only got worse as the series went on. It was kinda meh in DoS and downright uninspired in Judgment. Konami can't top it, neither can fans. Well, maybe someone can... someday.
Anyway, this game looks fantastic. Why can't this be an official download for Wiiware, PSN or XBLA? :( It would be so sweet...
-

No love for the SCIV version? That rendition took a basic and repetitive tune and nuanced the crap out of it.
-
No love for the SCIV version? That rendition took a basic and repetitive tune and nuanced the crap out of it.
The SCIV version is probably the second best version in my opinion, and it's super sophisticated given the restrictions of the hardware (much like all of SCIV soundtrack). But it also gives me a completely different feeling than the original, it's almost a bit melancholic. The version in Simon's Quest on the other hand is simplistic but that thumpin NES beat is just.... kick ass.
So yes, I've got lotsa love for the SCIV version, but it's not the same for me.
-
I too think Bloody Tears is pretty overrated. It's nowhere near my favorites, but it did sound great in SCIV.
-

Best version in the series.
I've been hoping any subsequent version would marry that and Rondo's extra parts to make it even better. Instead we're getting the same old repetitive mixes...
-

Bloody Tears and Heart of Fire will be in the fan-remake, though Optomon has yet to upload those samples. Pretty sure Bloody Tears will be a rearrangement and not a direct sample from the original game.
-
bloody Tears from SCV4 was phenominal and I also loved the CV: Chronicles version whilst watching the athenian goddess statue bleed tears of blood.
-X
-
I actually liked the techno remix of bloody tears from the Chronicles OST better than the one used in the game.
-
This is the best NES hack I have ever seen. So if it's available, will it be released as a rom or installation file?
-
Being a ROM hack it will most likely be released as a patch.
-
My question is, how close are they to finishing this?
-
O-M-G!!
I hope that guy release the beta soon
-
I'd wait for the finished product. Beta's are way too finicky and incomplete.

-
Rainshadow (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_W1lUDEJceM#)
new song!!!
-
Hmm. Not bad at all. I could definitly get behind this tune.
-X
-
As long as this game is more coherent as far as clues are concerned than the original SQ, I'd love to give it a whack when its done.
-

Holy crap. Optomon sequenced the Trick Manor song from CV4 for this hack. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
Also a link with an NSF. It has more original songs and remixes like Gears Go Awry, Heart of Fire, and Mad Forest. This hack is epic.
-
That was pretty good for a CV4 track in glorious 8-bit synth!! Gawddayam!! :o I wanna play the game!!!
-X
-
Wow. Now that's quite something there. Great job.
-
Trick Manor......my god it's beautiful. I want to buy this game, he better take my money.
-
That new mix of mad forest is getting me rather amped up too! A night sequence in the woods to that is going to be down right awesome.
-
This is shaping up to be the greatest CV ROM hack of all time. ;D
-
God Christ! Can we stop talking about the game and start playing it!?! All this excitement is torture!!! :-X

Not for quite a while, sadly. Though Optomon says most of the soundtrack is complete, the same cannot be said for the game itself.

This hack is going to be incredible.
-
Gave me chills... wow.... it brought back memories, and those graphics (In the shot) with armor reflections and all... Hey guys, how can we Help them to actually finish this? IT'S CASTLEORGASMIC!
-
Unless someone has the money to pay the hackers an hourly wage... I doubt it. Believe me, if I had several thousand dollars to waste I would.
Though considering that these guys formerly made Dragoon X Omega something, a really elaborate Final Fantasy 1 hack that makes it a different game, I don't think we have anything to worry about.
-
This hack is going to be incredible.
It sure will be, assuming they finish it. :P
-
This is starting to shape up well, still listening to the arranged verison of Trick Manor and I can wait for this to come out.(which is rare for most Castlevania hacks.)
-
I wonder if they are going to make the game more reminiscent of CV 1,3 in terms of traps and platforming. I always said that CV 2 would be an excellent game if it played more like Zelda II or Battle of Olympus. Yes, the pace and tempo of CVII is slower than the first title you can attribute that to the free scrolling of this game. I hope that they will be able to make it more consequence based as a plat-former. If they don't it probably won't sully this in any way. It's going to be fanfricking tastic. If I had money and I mean real money I would definitely make donations. I still have some sprite work if they want any contributions. Did they use Cursed for this? The forest looks amazing. I am just wondering how they are going to set up the boss encounters both in terms of music and atmosphere.
Without question, it's shaping up to be the best hack ever.
-
I never liked the original game but this remake looks quite well...
-
I made mp3s of the Trick Manor and New Messiah ones if anyone wants em... I tried to make one for Cross Your Heart too but for some reason it just wont convert Ive tried like 100 times it always crashes after like 1sec into it
-
Rather then converting the 'Cross your heart' tune, why not just make it from scratch? It might save you a lot of trouble...and crashes.

well I found this link to a post containin the nsf file for the entire soundtrack
http://theshizz.org/forum/index.php?/topic/31737-cv-hacks-im-making/ (http://theshizz.org/forum/index.php?/topic/31737-cv-hacks-im-making/)
So I made individual mp3s and set up all the tag info and a playlist. You can DL it here

*hugs Aridale.
I wish more 16bit songs were made in 8bit, especially from cv
-
Omegasigma and I can make that happen.
You might check Fan Stuff, sometimes we put up Downmixes.
-
That would be so nice.
The original songs like devil's workshop are well done imo and hold true to what makes 8 bit music sound so nice.
-
I just gave this collection a listen to, and It's a good soundtrack. I thought the custome tunes were well done. Devil's workshop was a very funky sounding piece, almost as though I was hearing an 8-bit dance-mix. It's unfortunate that memorable tunes like the one that play's in Dracula's ruined castle, are not included.

For those of you who'd really like to let out your interest, there's a topic on ROMhacking about it.
http://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php/topic,10174.0.html (http://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php/topic,10174.0.html)
As you can probably see, I've posted there a bit :P
-
Thanks man! I think it's almost our obligation to go there and say at least thanks.
-
Wow this looks like a great remake. I grew up with Vampire Killer on my old MSX, so I really dig the style of the graphics (and music). At the time I was really disappointed when I finally got to play the original Simon's Quest.
Thumbs up, and I will be sure to check out that ROMhacking topic.
PS: This is the original review of Simons Quest (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4we8iFk-fY#)
-
Vampire Killer, huh? That game is impossible but it does have a certain charm.
There's another cool rom hack of 8 Eyes being made that rips graphics and ideas from that game, but I don't know how much it's progressed.
-
Any new news on this?

It cannot be stressed enough that what Optomon is doing with the music here is AWESOME and legendary. Not only are both the originals and rearrangements tight as hell, but there's a reason that your average game hack doesn't include changed music-- making new music by hex editing the existing music is just fucked up and insane. It takes a good knowledge of both music and NES programming. I've written original NES music myself but couldn't fathom doing it the way that he is. This hack is epic.
From what I understand, although it's been a while since I've talked to him- the game had extra room leftover that could be used for more music. So this game should have a larger soundtrack than the original (perhaps twice as large?). It's kinda rare for that scenario with NES games- you're usually starved for room.
Also, some of the background tiles are wicked. Almost 16-bit looking. So good. :D

Are you a newcomer to the forums?
Please take the time to read the rules.
Also, if a thread has had no responses in over five months... let it go. Thread Necromancy is frowned upon, in this forum.
DERP
-
This thread needs to be returned. It's a legitimate bump. The project hasn't ended, there's been no news in a while, and it's highly anticipated. You people and your anti-revival attitude is completely retarded.
-
well bumping a thread that has a project that hasn't seen any updates in months (to my knowledge) and is in the wrong section in the first place is pretty retarded, too. but i digress..
maybe someone should contact optomon & see what's going on?
-
"It was not by MY hand that i a once again given Posts... I was called here by... Forum users... Who wish to pay ME posts..."
-
While thread Necromancy is not encouraged here I do think the given the nature of some of the threads i.e. ones that are about up-coming fan-made games, then I think it's safe to look the other way just for the game's sake. I was wondering what was going on with this game myself recently and I'm really looking forward to playing it once complete. Please tell me it's almost done!!

1) Glad this was resurrected as I am REALLY wanting this
2) Is this an actual ROM hack? Can I play this on a NES emu?
3) I REALLY want to play this, gimmie!!

Yep. It's a romhack of Simon's Quest that, as far as I know, seeks to make it into a sort of different game. Well, it's still Simon's Quest at its heart, but with prettier graphics, more items like high jump boots and keys for doors, hopefully way less obscure/false clues, more bosses, waaaay more music (original and remixed), etc.
Sadly, it hasn't seen any updates for a long time. Don't know what's up with it right now. But here's one of Optomon's amazing original tracks:

We've had an influx of new users recently, and I see no reason to not let them comment on a project they may not have ever heard about before. Even that aside, if someone wants to ask about it, just let them. If the thread is truly doomed to obscurity it'll drop on it's own. Let things take their natural course. Threads rise and fall with popular demand, and there is NOTHING wrong with that. Long live a good thread.
Also, it being in the wrong place is a problem for the staff. Which by the way you don't seem a part of, so I don't see the reason for all the mini-modding.
-
I'm curious why this hasn't been moved to the fan section.
-
I'm curious why this hasn't been moved to the fan section.
Because the game looks sooooo damn good, nobody's complaining.
-X
-
I think because, originally, the thread didn't belong to the game designer.
Sort of a "Hey guys check out what this dude is doing" with video.
But I'll rectify that decision now. :)
-
Ok.
Nice graphic, nice sound, and i would play it
BUT DONT CALL IT A REMAKE...sigh
u guys know what a remake is?
remake = take a old game, make better graphics, make the sound better, build in some new featues
Fail = never change the soundtrack? wth is this, calling that a remake and not even the soundtrack is the same -.-
Fail = same enemys
Wouldnt that intro say "castlevania II simons quest" i would never think of that...
it looks like an inoficial castlevania 4 on nes...
Dont get me wrong, its for sure a nice game and it looks like it will kick ass. i wanna play it for sure.
But its not a remake -.-
-
Uh... no... who said it has to be better or have new things to be a remake? a remake is just something that's been remade. >.>
-
You trying to tell me that it is ok if u call a new game a remake even if it has nothing to do with that game?
besides that, what is the sense in a remake, if u dont make better sounds and new features and make it look better?
I dont think many ppl are happy, if like square saying, there is gonna be a FF7 remake and it still a other game and they just titled it with FF 7 remake...
Same with other games...
-
Somebody needs to read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_game_remake (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_game_remake)

Never said it has nothing to do with the game. It just doesn't have to be better. What's the sense in doing that? Who knows? It's still remade.
And are you seriously going to quote wiki for something that is far from a definite meaning?
-
It's all relative, I think.
Super Mario All-Stars is essentially a re-color of the old games. While it does add a save menu, the games are (more or less) intact. So it's a remake (and a compilation), and it's also great.
Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX is a re-color of the old Gameboy Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. It adds a handful of new aspects but it's basically the same. So it's a remake.
Castlevania: The Adventure Rebirth is a completely new reimagining of the Castlevania Adventure Gameboy game. It's completely different in stages, colors, and game mechanics. It is still a remake, though.
So it seems that the term 'remake' is relative. It can be something as simple as "This was a NES game. Let's make it have SNES graphics with a richer color palette" and that's already good enough. You can, also, crank it up to 11 and make an entirely new game that's loosely based on the original, and it would still qualify as a remake.
You can also do a retro-remake. MegaMan 7 and MegaMan 8 in 8-Bit, for the PC, are NES-like "Remakes" of SNES and PSX titles. They're still remakes, though. It works both ways.
-
And are you seriously going to quote wiki for something that is far from a definite meaning?
Well, there's basically not that much range of meaning for "video game remakes", and that range doesn't include this case. I would call it enhancement (hack), if anything. But seriously, remakes have nothing to do with this project.
-
The only reason I disagree with it being called a straight remake is because it is a ROM hack, but that's just my personal preference.
-
You people are so picky with your terminology. >3>
-
I don't know about the others, but for me it's a programmer thing that makes me so picky.
-
is this already out
-
Nope. Haven't had any news from the developers in a while either.
