Title: Castlevania Tribute Volumes 1 & 2
Post by: Foffy on November 11, 2010, 05:16:53 PM
Welp, seems outside of the pretty huge Castlevania Music Box we have this year, Konami intends to release a two disc collection of arrangements in the future.

http://vgmdb.net/album/21874 (http://vgmdb.net/album/21874)
http://vgmdb.net/album/21875 (http://vgmdb.net/album/21875)

So, what composers are you interested in seeing their interpretations of Castlevania music? Motoi Sakuraba and Masashi Hamauzu caught my attention the most.

2nd Disc has Kumi Tanioka, who worked on the very cool music of Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles for Gamecube.
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Music: Promised Grace (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FgfturgXrLo#)
This is probably not the best example, but the depth she puts into melodies with playful instruments, and multiple movements (this song has three different loops) show a lot of talent.  I believe she also did the Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon music.

Yeah, she did some of the songs for Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon. I think she composed one of my favorite songs from CMD2, a song called "Time of Trial". It always reminded me of a song that could've been in Chrono Trigger.

Hitoshi Sakimoto. I'd like to hear his interpretation of the Library stage in CV4. DO IT

Also more Yuzo Koshiro tunes are nice.

But even without those two, DAMN this sounds awesome.

Hate to say it, but Disk 2 is way more interesting to me. Disk 1 in concept is cool but the mixes just dont sound real, or something.

The first disk samples are okay, but I don't know. They sound too...electric? Old-school? I can't think of a good word to describe it.

The disk 2 samples on the other hand, sound pretty awesome. I especially love Requiem of the Gods. It sounds AWESOME. I wish I had the whole track now.  :'(

Only name I recognize is Masafumi Takada, and he rocks. Love his scores for michigan, killer7, and to a little lesser degree No More Heroes (although this remix (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2voDYPK0_Zw#) he did of the theme song is incredible).

I'd like to get these CDs, soooooo, I'll see if Alex McLaren can score 'em for me.

They only had the 3000 YEN cards available for immediate shipping, so I guess I can save the left over money for the other album. They can send the code to your email, so that's what I did. I should hopefully have the songs soon.

If I can figure out how to get the songs off of Itunes (once I get the album), I'll upload them for everyone.

Will buying from the iTunes Japan store work even with iTunes Japan cards? I looked into buying stuff from iTunes UK and thought buying cards would work, but then I noticed you also have to supply a valid UK address for checkout, whiiiich I didn't have.

But, if it does work, I know that iTunes (well, in the US at least) got rid of DRM, but did kind of a weird thing where they track where your files go, so...they're still kinda policing people and what they do with what they buy.

SharePod is a tool that allows you to copy files from your iPod to a hard drive. Doesn't apply in this case.

The website I bought the Itunes card from gives instructions on what to do, and the website says that you don't need a valid address, and you can put in anything for an address, really. So, basically if you can get the Itunes card from whatever country, it seems you can get the music as long as you sign up an account for that country.

Still waiting for my Itunes card code, by the way. Hopefully I get it tomorrow. If not, I won't be able to upload anything until Tuesday.

Good news, I successfully got a Japanese Itunes account. More good news, both Albums are released. Great news, I got both Albums from Itunes.  ;D

Bad news, I've been struggling to find a way to remove the protection from the songs. I've spent all morning trying to find a way, but I might have FINALLY found a method to remove the protection though. It involves burning a audio CD in Itunes with the songs on it, and then reimporting the songs back into Itunes. I'll keep you all updated on my progress.
Title: Re: Castlevania Tribute Volumes 1 & 2
Post by: Kaori on January 14, 2011, 08:39:47 AM
I know, I'm not suppose to double post, if my last post could be removed, that would be awesome. I just wanted everyone to see that a new post was made, considering that you might not be able to tell right away that I have the songs uploaded if I just edited the post.

Anyway, I have both albums unprotected now, thanks to burning a audio CD in Itunes with the songs on it, and then reimporting the songs back into Itunes. The songs are in M4a format, which you should be able to play in both Windows Media Players and Itunes. I don't know about other players. Also, they should all be in their original quality that I got them in, so they are good quality.

Now, what you all want...the links. :)

Masafumi Takada's remix is way bummin' me out. :( Totally not the badassery he usually delivers. Not enough of himself in the mix, unless he's started completely changing how he does things.

First track on the first album is also way bad. :o

I'll give both albums full listens later, heh.

Gotta wait for the link so i can get hooked up on this cv goodness lol

Sorry for the wait, I was in my classes. Now I'm off for the weekend, so I should be able to respond a little bit faster, hopefully.

I've also decided that Nocturne is also amazing after listening to every song. The only one I really didn't like at all was Slash.

The only one I really didn't like at all was Slash.

It just doesn't make sense that the guy who did this

Killer7 - Blackburn (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDCbZMvHxIE#)

and this

Killer7 - Multiple Personality (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HP13vhIzpeA#)

and this

Killer7 - Back To The Light (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=An71S7HuEkE#)

could make something so boring.

:(

Maybe he just doesn't like Castlevania music and it was done as a favor. 'Cos most of this guy's music is top-notch; he's one of my favorite, most easily recognizable video game composers.

Once you have the links, save them in case anyone else needs 'em.

Sorry to those who requested links that I got back to ya so late, i had to run some errands. Both cds are really good, well done to the composers.

lol, so... I've totally come to fall in love with Takada's interpretation of "Slash". Not quite what I had expected from him, but it's great nonetheless. Very minimal a lot of the time, and the more full-blown sections have a very classic video games type of feel.

Finished looping these albums at least 3 times now. Hands down my favorite remix albums of Castlevania music ever.

vol.1 usually all the energy is there, faster paced songs all around energy
vol.2 is more mellow and slow, both are just great

Note: If your putting this on iTunes, Track 14 15 16 is Track 1 2 3 in vol .2 which starts at track 4 at 1.

Both albums are phenomenal. Only thing that could have made them better was the inclusion of some Cotm and Hodiss, but o well

Hey guys, just heard about this. From the sound of the second disc samples, this could be epic. So, uh, anyone wanna PM a link.

Please.  ;D ;)

I'm actually a bit disappointed by these two CD's. Some arrangements are very good (Beginning, Clockwork, the LoI one, etc.) but some of them are really off (Garibaldi Courtyard, what did they do to you?). The tracklist was interesting, but they could have take some better and more appreciated tunes (Pitch-Black Intrusion, Invitation of a Crazed Moon, A Toccata Into Blood Soaked Darkness, etc. from newer games - disc 2), though the selection is decent (maybe too much "ending" tracks).

In conclusion, interesting but not as good as I would have expected it.

Same here. Though, the fact that they did CV4's ending track makes the entire album worth it.

It really does feel like an amateur compilation though. Even the samples are pretty cheap sounding.

I just used the Japanese title of the album from here and it came up on Itunes Japan.

thanks.  just got the iPhone a couple days ago and just started downloading music on it, but haven't tried the Japan site yet.  just got DXC OST on it, while the other ones available i already have the CDs for.  it'll be good to buy the soundtracks directly instead of mooching off of fan sites or paying the extra $$ for them being import OSTs.

I would prefer to buy them as a digital copy. It's way more convenient, otherwise id have to rip and tag each track. I skip the middle man and go for the fan site download.

Why don't I buy them online then? First of all, I hate Apple. iTunes is a bloated piece of shit program, as is Quicktime. iPods are overpriced, less featured, cheap pieces of shit. Not to mention anything from iTunes is locked down so much you can't even do anything with them. I will never own an iPod, and I will never install iTunes or Quicktime.

Do you guys have the correct tags for each of the tunes?  I'm gonna tag these soon but I need the composer/arranger info, etc.

Not really digging the Vampire Killer remix on the first disc.
The concept of an homage to Thriller is cool and all, but the execution was terrible.
This is compounded by the fact that the music is sounds pretty good without the lyrical gimmick.
I'm on Beginning and so far all the songs except the afore mentioned Vampire Killer are rockin' it.

The Clock Tower remix is awesome. One of those songs that makes me want to throw together a quick recreation of just that stage so that I can play it to this song.

Nice! More games should have that sort of feature.
