February 2011 marks the 25 year anniversary of the NES in the United States. The NES was released in the United States in February 1986.

Just a tidbit of information. Better start planning your Video Game Parties now.

Could you imagine Nintendo surprising their fans and announcing a new console on that date? They would be all "Well first we had the Nintendo Entertainment System, then the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, now...prepare yourselves for...The Ultimate Nintendo Entertainment System! Then the first game out for it would be Ultimate Mario Bros. Oh and Nintendo should go back to the retro generosity. Give two controllers, a game, ALL the wires and connections, and finally make the cost of it $200 bucks. If they did it next year, by then XBox 360 would be worth $200 bucks so they could make the new console just as powerful.

Isn't that also when the 3DS comes out?

Yeah but oddly enough the Japanese 3DS is being released on that date. The US one is being released in March.

Nice nice. It would be cool if it was re-released with some built-in classics for the 25th anniversary.
