Merry Christmas for all you corrupted heretics who don't even know what Christmas is!  >:(
No, it's not a jolly excuse for buying presents and being cute and feeding mega-corporations with your well-earned money.
It's about celebrating your Messiah Jesus Christ who died on the cross to teach you about higher values and Love Thy Neighbor and such!

Also, I bet most don't even know that the character of Santa Claus is based on a historical figure, Saint Nicholas, a 4th century Greek bishop. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Nicholas)

Do you honestly think you're revealing some sort of arcane information?

Also, the roots of Christmas are very much pagan.

Yea............ no. while it's advertised as a celebration of christ, it really only exists because mega corporations thought..... hmm what can we do to get more money? oh i know lets find something that's a symbol and use it to get people to buy things. Obvious choice being saint nick who had history of giving things.

The original christmas celebrations go way back before Christianity was even invented. It's actually based off a Pegan tradition. The roman catholic church tried to eliminate Pegan rituals, but were ultametly unsuccessful. So instead they encorperated those traditions with some small changes here and there and whalla! we have our modern holidays. It's the old saying: If you can't beat 'em, assimilate them.

Ah, this is very similar to what the Soviet Union did.

When the Soviet Union was founded, they based the government on the atheistic ideals of Marxism, and since religion had no place in the Soviet Union, all religious holidays were announced unofficial, and replaced with secular Socialist holidays such as May 1st (International Labor Day), May 9th (Victory {over Nazi Germany} day)  and March 8th (International women's day).

However, they failed to prevent the people from celebrating Christmas, so instead of forbidding the holiday, they have turned Christmas celebrations into the much-more-secular New year celebrations.

The New Year's celebrations in Russia were made to appear as if it has nothing to do with Christ or Christianity.
Nevertheless, the Christmas tree remained, with a red star of the Soviet Union replacing the angel.
And Santa Claus as well, referred to as Ded Moroz (Grandfather Cold), replacing the character of st. Nicholas with a character from Russian folklore. In Russia, Ded Moroz also often appears with his (usually slutty) young granddaughter, Snegurochka (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snegurochka),

Nothing, Freddy's corrupting a feel-good "Merry Christmas" thread by turning it into something political.
Quite shameful, actually.

The PNG image I did and the images people posted cost nothing to make but time, and were placed up solely for generating a feeling of camaraderie and togetherness on the threat.  In THOSE images there was nothing corporate or mischievous.  To try and diminish those by posting that we as a whole don't know what Christmas is, kinda defeats the intent those images had in the first place.

I'm sad...

Damnit, nobody can take a joke anymore!
Uncle Freddy jokes about how Christmas was turned into a celebration of materialism, and people can't take a joke and get insulted.

Does Freddy have to come in your dreams and force his twisted sense of humor?

Also, most of you probably watched it, but I really like this show:

Summoning Santa : Foamy The Squirrel (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSZdKUi3QC8#)

No Christmas For You! : Foamy The Squirrel (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJZjR7xyyWE#)

Also, RIP master Dio!

Oh that!
I missed the joke 'cuz that's your M.O.
But moreover, there was no corporate stuff on the thread so it came out of nowhere, that's why.
Carry on, then.  I know that show.  It's ok.

My thoughts exactly.

Anyways, Christmas seems to go by faster and faster every year. And it arrives almost as fast. Better start buying gifts for next year, me thinks.
