We all know that some fans were turned off by LoS. We also know that some fans don't like 2D Igavanias. From what I understand from reading these forums is that most of us like platformers and 3D games. Main problem is that the execution is usually terrible. The only thing people seem to dislike about LoS is the story. So, I think that some older more popular 2D side-scroller games should be remade as 3D games using some gameplay features of LoS (example: unlockable combos).
As an example, I'll use SotN. Everything would be the same except in will be in 3D and Alucard would be able to use combos. The combos would depend on what items he has equipped. Let's say that he is equipped with a standard single handed sword and a shield. A combo could start with a few slashes followed by a ramming charge with the shield. Other combos could involve grabbing an enemy, tossing them in the air and then blasting them with a magical attack. Imagine Alucard with the lightning sub-weapon equipped. He grabs a fleaman, tosses it, and then blasts it while it's in midair with lightning. Wouldn't that be cool? Also, make his hellfire spell like the one Dracula uses in CoD (unleashes three fire balls that explode after a few seconds). Now, think of that used in a combo. After ramming an enemy with a shield and then using that spell to do more damage to the rammed enemy as well as any surrounding enemies.
Similar treatment could be given to Soma in AoS. Soma would be even more versatile given all the powers he gets from absorbing souls. Also, the story of AoS could be changed so that Death has a larger role. For more details on how Death's role could be improved, check out the thread about whether Iga is done or not. I believe it's called "Iga -- Le Requiem?".
These games are great platformers, but 3D graphics and battle systems like LoS could make them better and attract some old fans who are disappointed with newer games as well as attract new ones. And for the men out there, the lilith and succubus enemies in a 3D AoS would be almost, if not completely nude. Fan service anyone? Of course, the games would have a mature rating (not that the 3D CVs don't already have them).

they should just hand the cv rights to platinum games & let hideki kamiya handle everything from now on

It's actually not hard to attract old fans. A lot of what old fans love more is the classic material to be kept sacred. You can build on with new gameplay, but as long as Dracula's Dracula, Castlevania looks true, as does the atmosphere, monsters and music, classic fans would love it. I do think LoS would be more welcome generally throughout the CV fanbase had it used the base story of "Belmont venturing out to fight Dracula", because you really can't get more classic a formula than the one used in the very first CV. Starting with an origin tale is tricky, because it's almost a sure bet you are going to alienate someone. That's why, from what I've seen, origin tales are best left for a later installment.

That sounds like a really good game concept actually. The 3DS game might end up being something like that.

Lol, Actually, what comes to mind when seeing that, is "Theres just no pleasing gamers"

No. No, no, no, no, good God, no. :p
I haven't yet played LOS, so I know dick-all about the story, but the main thing that keeps me uninterested in the game is that it's a fucking hack 'n' slash—and worse, it uses button combos. In all of the 2D games, when have we ever seen combos? Never. I refuse to believe that just because it's 3D, the controls have to be COMPLETELY redone and that combos are a necessity. That, to me, is changing core gameplay and making Castlevania into something it isn't. IGA and co. were wrong to introduce hack 'n' slash, button combo gameplay in LOI; the folks behind LOS were wrong to go further in that direction.
This is why I'll always prefer the N64 games to the three 3D games that have been made since (while I haven't played LOS, I've spent a good deal of time watching a friend play it), because despite their flaws, at least they tried to adapt Castlevania gameplay and true essences into the 3D realm, and did so quite successfully, I think.
Fuck, imagine if hack 'n' slashing and combos were introduced in a new Zelda game. (And I mean multi-button ones; of course there are combos, but it's a simple press of one button.) IT'S 3D SO IT'S A NECESSITY! IT MUST BE DONE TO ADAPT THE GAME TO THE 3D WORLD! I've heard people give this argument in regard to using such elements in LOS, and it's totally bupkis.
But what it really boils down to, is tits. Lots of tits. SOTN had so many tits, it was mind-boggling for my at-then-twelve-year-old mind. Bring back the titties, and in vast quantities.

A 3D AoS/DoS game would be my dream.
-
Eh, I'd rather have new games than have MercurySteam horribly butcher older ones. I don't want to see a version of Dracula's Curse with QTEs or slow ass wall shimmying, EVER.
Not that I'm totally against combos, but reading Freak's post, it would be interesting to see Konami try to make another 3D Castlevania without heavy use of them. Their heads would probably fucking explode.
-
But the idea of having a 3D Dracula's Curse, with 4 playable and very different characters, is really cool.
Imagine Trevor being the "basic" guy (like Gabriel is), Sypha using super-spells (and she would be able to power 3 elements - fire, ice, thunder), Grant having max speed and agility and Alucard being well-balanced between weapons (swords, etc.) and spells (Hellfire, Bat Transformation, etc.). That would be cool!

who said anything about wall shimmying and QTEs. I don't like those either. There would be parts in which you need to swing across large gaps like Simon is CV4, but that's it. I'm not messing with the stories either (except AoS to give Death a larger role). My idea simply takes the elements of the old games and combines them with the good battle elements of the 3D games (essentially the use of combos). They would be platformers like the original games, but the gameplay would be enhanced by the use of combos and 3D environment. No crummy leveling up, just life max increases in Metrodvaina remakes.

That is a cool idea. I'm just against the other things that would come with it if MercurySteam were to make it.
Now if it were like the PS2 ones with much (and I mean much much) more emphasis on platforming (jumping on platforms, not wall shimmying), it would be very cool. The CoD Machine Tower level was an insult to all Clock Tower levels in any game ever.

Yes, that is part of what I'm trying to get at. 3D stages whose design is fateful to what a 3D CV should be (similar to the N64 titles, but better graphics).

I second this.

Hallelujah, brother!!
I have to agree with the anti-combo notions.
They don't need to have 'Street Fighter' depth to be fun and interesting.
Hell, look at the Megaman Zero games.
They have basic combos with a hand full of alternate weapons with their own interesting features.
Another big problem with LoS is the rather sad and pathetic sub-weapon selection.
What would have been more interesting is to have most of the original sub-weapons and give them new effects with the light and dark magic. Linda like in LoI/HoD but with more of the utilitarian flair of the weapons in Megaman 9.
Instead they emphasized the magic too much and basically made Gabriel into a Red Mage from Final Fantasy.
DragonSlayr81 had it right. They should have stuck to a simpler mantra 'Belmont venturing out to fight Dracula'.
I blame all this other convoluted '(Croncvist=Belmont=Dracula)+WTF just happened?' crap to Kojima.
They should have stuck with the original 'remake cv' plan and then taken the opportunity to expand the story in as many cool ways as they could have wanted.
