Title: New DS game staff
Post by: Cypress on November 06, 2007, 12:55:58 PM
They are using the portrait of ruin production team. Hope this isn't old news.

Nice, but it would be better if the brought back the gothic-romance style instead of that crappy anime look. u_u

"For this title, we're keeping the production team that made Portrait of Ruin, so it will definitely be a game of high quality."

Well, here we go again.

Oh great. More monotony!

I bet at least 1/4 of por's new monsters and maybe even one area from either of the games will be somehow reused.

Now we can guess what the title is gonna be ! I'll go first:
Sonata of Grief

I just hope the artwork will be nice

Me too! It's annoying...

My English teacher used that word a lot today! (sorry to go off topic, but I felt like saying that. lol)

Anyway, if the PoR staff is back, then the game can't possibly meet our expectations of a GOOD Castlevania game.....hopefully it will have good extras. Hey, does anyone know what it's about yet??

......why.....

Somebody better have a spark of inspiration. I don't want to think of the castle again as squares...but as areas. And epic boss battles would be nice. if all the bosses can have the same energy and the dullahan boss, I will be satisfied. I swear....that has to be the hardest first boss in history.

The first couple times I read it, I thought he said it would be a game of higher quality.  My brain just wouldn't accept the idea that he could still think Portrait is a game on which he should pride himself.

Well, according to this article, http://www.destructoid.com/destructoid-interview-castlevania-s-koji-igarashi-50472.phtml , the anime look will most likely not appear for this game. Keep your fingers crossed.

I'm looking forward to this game BECAUSE it has the POR Staff behind it.

seriously, POR is a game in which I have been hooked on longer than any other video game I have played to date. (11 months, to be exact, most other games lose their novelty withen two months for me.)

and if they can top that, I'll be plenty satisfied.

Well, I don't care who's behind it. I've never found a CV game  that wasn't fun. So, I'm sure this one will be just as much as every other one.

If this turns out like PoR, I am not even going to bother buying it. Which would make it the first Castlevania game I am willing to pass up since Legends.

Just stumbled on these boards... hi!

Any way, yeah that's sorta kinda exciting. PoR wasn't really... memoriable to me, I played it quite a bit but nothing really stuck. I liked the way that they tried the stages effect, but it just didn't...seem right. And two characters were annoying. If they avoid any thing overly gimmicky I'll be happy.

And yes the anime art has got to go.

No more anime artowrk, please.  As much as I like a good Anime, I hate seeing CV adopt silly anime expressions, like Charlotte's face when she gets pissed...
...bring back Kojima...for good, this time?

Well I actually enjoyed PoR and think its shortcoming are blown WAY out of proportion.  Looking forward to the next installment.

I won't be buying this game if it has that terrible anime art.

Dollar voting, folks.

Iga already said he's moving away from the anime.

However, if the protagonist will be as fucktastically retarded as jonathan or the stages as uninspired and boring copypasta of rooms as por's I won't be really buying it either, but rather have it on my ds yarr device. :o

All i can say is, if i don't read first something about the scenario or game play and don't see at least one screen shot, i can't make my comment's about the new game.

I look forward to all Castlevania games.  IGA's Castlevania, at its worst (CoD), has still been memoriable for me through its storytelling, characters, and atmosphere.  Even though the level structure sucked.

I was pleased with PoR, and even the reverse portraits weren't enough to make me too angry.

Personally I'd like a dark, moody, gothic look, kinda like SotN and HoD...something like that would be pretty  cool.  As much as I'd like something from 1999, I hope they can fit room for an adventure that takes place before the 19th century...

I agree. the reason why the inverted portraits were forgivable in my opinion is because the genres they used for them were good. (the Forest of Doom/Dark academy for example reminded me of those castles and laboratories you see in those old Universal horror films, The forgotten city improves on it's previous portrait with its music, and 13th street in my opinion is just gorgeous.)

I liked PoR myself. They just needed to expand on the online mode and make the game a lot more gloomy. I liked the blood effects and the detail in the levels. Maybe they are coming back to prove themselves to the people who expect every castlevania game to be Symphony of the Night pt. 2.

And as for the anime style (which they did say they were moving away from) I actually like it more than a lot of the previous artwork. The only old works I liked were Richter and Soma. Many of the guys seemed too feminine and Yoko...well Yoko scared the hell out of me. She looked way better in anime. Maybe if they had made the game darker(as in upside down crosses in a bloodsoaked cemetery) then people wouldn't have complained about the artwork being kiddy. Or they could have used an anime style that doesn't look so much like a kiddy highschool anime. If they drew it like Berserk a lot less people would complain.

*looks at sig* And you wouldn't be biased towards that right...lol j/k.

At this point...i dont care if they keep the anime look or not. I just want a great game

How did that get there....wierd...
Guess I am, but I watch alot of anime and Berserk (aside from one character) doesn't look very anime like. The manga looks more gothic.

I hope it's not the 1999 game. It will be wasted potential if they're using the PoR staff to produce the final epic battle against Dracula.

Maybe this game is Soleil's time to shine? No... perhaps an all new original character & the like.

I don't think they'll ever return to the "gothic romance" atmosphere of SotN. Atleast, not with the DS installments.

Yeah, typing "castlevania forum" in the address bar brings up the old forum. It's still the highest-rated one by Google. We'd probably get more traffic here if it was shut down, but I guess there's some desire to try and keep the old posts.

Anyway, I have a bad feeling that this will just be another castleroid, with recycled sprites and gameplay held together by some new gimick. In the most recent interview Wired brought up how oversaturated the GBA/DS games are getting, but Iga just brushed it off.

I know, I'm not saying I didn't like PoR, it just wasn't good a Castlevania game. Too many glitches, anime, reuseed monsters, utterly STUPID boss battles, except the sisters, my favorite CV boss battle ever.

Keep in mind that just because it's the same staff doesn't mean the game will be the same. There is of course a chance that they will be given time to pull off something of much higher quality and coherence than PoR. And PoR wasn't a bad game anyway. It kept me entertained for several months solid, and I'd probably play it again before I'd consider playing DoS Soma mode. So in that respect it was an improvement.

It also had some cool ideas that need to be kept and improved upon in future executions. Chiefly, areas outside of the castle. I'd prefer these to be implemented as the traditional wandering through the Romanian countryside to get to the castle, rather than areas you continually leave the castle to visit.  The quests were awesome.  Also, the ability to power up your subweapons simply by using them was cool.

Things we can do without are tag team play (that's been done twice now, let's not make it a series requirement), recycled areas, the uninspiring castle layout, bosses that are just cheap instead of difficult (throwing spiked walls at you is just cheap, I don't care what anybody says), and of course, having to see/use those SotN enemies and DoS weapons for the umpteenth time.

So there are good things and bad things. I will give them the benefit of the doubt for now and wait to see if they can improve upon their previous efforts.

Richter Mode Lv.1 Hard sisters battle = Awesome.
That was my most epic battle. I was running all over that place, whiping the ice crystals, Using grand cross as a sheild. Having Maria run around with Grand Cross (...just cause it looked cool.) Runner up was the death fight. Im stuck at Brauner though. Have to hit him about 600 times without getting hit more than once. (If I can even survive that 1 hit.)

If they take the best parts of PoR it will be a great game.

I quite enjoyed PoR. It was certainly fun, and it was nice to see a Castlevania that wasn't so over-flamboyant in design. Gothic tone is nice, but jeeze, does it have to be so fancy? I'm hoping that they get a new artist to do the design work for this game. Someone that brings back the creepiness that the older games had.
