Title: Looking for a pic by Kojima
Post by: xdiesp on January 22, 2011, 04:59:46 AM
Hi! I think this is an illustration from some artbook by Ayami Kojima. But so far I've only found a thumbnail, does anyone have a full one? Tnx.

Sorry to necrobump, but these pictures are fucking awesome. They capture the feeling of medieval pictures so perfectly; also love how Dracula has the blood-colored halo like he's the anti-Christ.

I made a series of medieval artwork in that style that depicts several noteworthy scenes from the Castlevania universe. Still undecided if I should post them on the forum cuz none of them are colored or anythin' :/

What's "necrobump?"

necrobump = to revive an old or "dead" thread.

I too have done some icon-type CV fanart, in the style of saintly pictures with haloes. I enjoy drawing Alucard, Lisa, and Maria in this style, but my favorite is one I did of Sara Trantoul.

On topic: These are truly beautiful illustrations. I'm contemplating splurging on the box set now just to say, "you know what? I've got Castlevania relics." I wonder if that is supposed to be any particular Belmont in the yellow picture, and I'm assuming that's a (miserable little) pile of screaming women in Dracula's hand?

Thread is only 3 days old :P

I always thought the Belmont depicted was Leon (he wore similar clothing, blonde hair, etc.). The people/souls in Dracula's hand are the damned that have encountered/worshipped him maybe??

I have this boxset, and those images are pretty small. I wish they would've made them poster-size. Ayami needs to do more artwork in this style, fits the series perfectly IMO.

btw I'd love to see your artwork sometime, narkolepsi :)

I was second-guessing myself because of the length of his hair, and thought it was Simon. But come to think of it, Leon does make sense also because he was the first Belmont, and the most legendary. I thought the people in his hand were victims...but with Dracula, everyone who adores him is a victim.

The boxset is very beautifully designed though. I love how the discs spell out "DRACULA THE IMMORTAL." Poster-sized images of those drawings would be amazing, they'd go great on either side of my framed PoR soundtrack poster. :)

I've been considering starting an art thread once I get all my pieces together. I may post a couple in this thread for you to see, I have two ready (Sara and Shanoa). However, I've been a bit reluctant to share Castlevania fanart because a lot of it seems to be a target of homophobic comments. I've gotten those types of comments on two of my pictures, one of which I did for a friend. It really upset me. Thing is, they were portraits of Isaac and Aeon respectively, and neither were mature or even suggestive, and I don't plan on drawing CV yaoi anytime soon. Until I have the guts to start an art thread, I will upload some samples of my CV "icon" art. I also have a deviantART page. It is marked as my website URL so you can just click the little globe here to go to it.

pfft, fuck the haters, don't be shy to show your artwork off here! Checked out your page, I like the Lecarde Sisters and the Ecclesia one looks very.. ethereal? Think that's the word, lol.

You've convinced me to post some of my art as well, so I'll prolly make a thread about it in a few days in Fanart. Still have to make a few modifications to mine..

That Belmont figure is an idealization. Its clothes are far pre-medieval, it's like a Roman-timed Belmont... and I love it.

Not necessarily, Hashasverhas. hasversus. Here are some examples of medieval attire in 11th-century Europe, mainly during the Crusades

i think it's rather appropriate for Leon, no?

Thank you! The Ecclesia one is one of my personal favorites.

I think that commenter is a member on this forum as well, albeit a semi-active one. That is also a concern. I admit I am much better at drawing women and girls, being one myself, and it can carry over when I draw males. Henceforth, my being a sitting duck. But I love art and really, I don't plan on stopping for anyone.

Here are the "icon-style" pictures of Sara and Shanoa. I'm posting from a mobile and don't know how it would look on a regular screen. (Mods: if I should move these, please let me know, even though I don't plan to turn this entire thread into "narko's art gallery" or something like it. :) )

@Ahasverus: So what you're trying to get at is that this is not any actual Belmont, but a representation of what the Belmont family stands for? I thought that for a while too. Leon wore an outfit like that when he was a knight, but he renounced that title. The picture represents the essence of the Belmont family in a beautiful way. I would love to see an entire collection of Belmonts done like that, and in a larger form. That would be sweet.

Yup, these are cool!
You should post these at Fan Stuff.

Thank you. :)
As soon as I get all my artworks together I'll be opening up an art thread eventually.

Your art is seriously good! The Sara picture is probably my favorite. It's kinda dark and she doesn't appear all innocent like she usually is.

Thank you very much. I went for a more anguished look with the Sara pic. When I draw her, it's usually very melancholy for some reason. I don't know why. It befits her, though, because even when her soul is being consumed by vampirism, she mourns for her innocence. Perhaps that is what is meant by a "lament of innocence."

I really don't intend to be threadjacking, so I will be opening up a Fan Stuff thread quite soon.

If people are making those kind of comments, they deserve to be made as uncomfortable as possible. Draw with more vigor and with more homosexual undertones to cause them mental suffering and anguish.

Alternatively, you could draw your interpretation of Motorcycle Skeleton's ending if he were a playable character in Judgment.

Haha, I read your post this morning and it made my day. :) In fact, you moved me to draw a quick doodle of Motorcycle Skeleton driving out of the time rift with a shocked Aeon looking on. Good show, good show.

Yes they're awesome because they're in correct byzantine style, the real deal in ancient churches. Particularly reminiscient of St. George and the Dragon:

Check the dragon which looks like a dog with bat wings, that's spot on for Dracula's pic. Props for the little people in his hands! What gives them away is the teeth and exaggerated dress features for Dracula, which are not medieval iconography, and the whip. Otherwise, splendid.

You are correct.

It is worth noting that during the 11th century, Wallachia was just outside the boundary of the Roman Catholic Church's coverage, and the westernmost province covered by the Eastern Church. Sypha Belnades also took refuge in the Eastern Orthodox Church. Therefore, it would make sense to have Eastern-style iconography, which Kojima got down surprisingly well.
