A couple of days ago, I posted some of my renderings of CV characters in another thread, and I wished to post more. Since I didn't want to steal the thread/violate the rules, and also because of a positive reaction, I decided to bite the bullet and make an art thread for myself. Constructive criticism is awesome and will definitely be taken into consideration; if there's anything that I can do to make my art better, I'm all for it. Flames are used to roast marshmallows and then doused. Requests are welcome, but I cannot guarantee they'll be done immediately - I'm very busy with school and the like.
To any potential flamers: I do not intend to "pervert the true spirit of Castlevania" or "fag the series" or anything in that vein. I know my males look feminine. I draw women more frequently than men and cannot always make the adjustment smoothly. This is a flaw in my art that I acknowledge that I need to work on.
(Despite all this, I am not including any pictures of Alucard or otherwise...yet.) EDIT: just did, lol.
Now, onto the art! Pictures are kind of big, so this is a good place for a 56K warning.

Castlevania "Icons"
These are little pictures I did in the style of a holy icon, a la Kojima's illustrations for the Best Music Collection Box. I have a couple more I have to upload yet, so stay tuned. EDIT: Aaaaand...they're not working at the moment. I'll find another host for them. I previously hosted them via Tapatalk, so I'll just have to hook my iPod to my computer and get the pictures from there. I have some other "icons" on my iPod, which I was able to capture due to their small size.
I hope you like. As always, mature comments and criticisms are welcome! I will be posting more soon, so keep an eye out. :)

I like them. You seem to have a good understanding of shading. That's something I cant quite seem to do right.
You should post your male drawings, 'gay looking'/'womanly' or not. If you put forth hard work and effort into them, you should display them.

Thank you uzo. I do have a couple of Alucard that I would like to put up, but I am afraid of the reaction. I always did have an inferiority complex, but it's time to make like a sponge and suck it up, I guess. :)

That pic of alucard is very well done. In my mind, it's not too feminine at all. It's where it should be. I also like the shading for the first pic too. It gives the castle a cathedral-like appearence while the white moon glows behind it. I also find the Sypha one interesting as well since it looks as though you used black paper for the base of the picture.

X: Aww, you found me out. XD In all seriousness, however, the Sypha drawing was indeed done with color pencils on black paper.

Alucard definitely looks feminine, but, it's not bad. The eyes have that feminine puff to them, and the lips especially. Though every time I try and do detailed lips, it always looks feminine too. Overall not bad. A hell of a lot better than my attempts.

His eyes are a bit wide in this picture. Lips are very difficult to draw, I will agree with you there. I have drawn characters countless times only to scrap them because the lips are marred by countless erasures. The DXC manual does mention his "androgyne beauty," which is what he is loved (and hated) by so many for, so I try to keep that in mind while working with Alucard, but there is a fine line to tread, especially with him...I love drawing him though.
This is not my best work of Alucard; there is one I started a long time ago that I need to finish that is coming out a little better already. Thank you very much for your comments. I will definitely keep them in mind. :)

The thing about syhpa that makes me like it the most is because of that dark paper you used. The others are good, but they look dead or tired, except for maria who looks to be modeling her face and boobage.

In all seriousness, pictures done on a plain white background have that effect on people. It may work well for the Shanoa pictures, since she's resting in one of them, and she, as we all know, is a very unemotional character until the end. Sara is actually supposed to be semi-dead. I do draw in black and white more so than color.
Looking back on Sypha, the color on black definitely adds life to the picture, especially with the elements surrounding her, but gives it a mysterious look. I will have to try that with other characters.
I noticed that you brought up Maria. She was an experiment with chalk pastels, and the only color picture other than Sypha that I included here. Pastels are a fun medium to work with, so I got very free-flowing in the process. I guess the bright colors are what gave it the "model" look.

You have a point about Sara, and I didn't play OoE that much to know about Shanoa. I mostly thought of her character as a determined member of the order and powerful glyph user.

Oralox: Shanoa loses her memories and emotions; it is a plot device, so I won't spoil it for you (unless you happen to know the story already). It is very integral to the story.
Crisis: My favorite would have to be Lisa, believe it or not. She is such a beautiful and elegant character and her death is so sad. (Plus, her outfit is simple.) I also like drawing Sypha and Shanoa.

A little bump, because the thread isn't 5 months gone yet...
I do drop by from time to time, even though I've been extremely busy. But now that school is done, I may be able to post some more fanart. I've also been obsessed with drawing Cammy from Street Fighter, which doesn't help too much on the Castlevania front...but I'll try to get more stuff up soon, particularly some more of the "holy icon" pictures. Thanks!

You understanding of color theory seems to be pretty good. Most experienced artists still have trouble with it. Your Maria has great color values!

Jorge: Ah. So it is the hosting service, not the device. I'll just have to find a new home for them and repost them. I uploaded them via Tapatalk's image hosting service so I guess they must have expired.
