Title: Castlevania sheet music for piano
Post by: danceofgold on February 08, 2011, 11:46:13 PM
I have been collecting Castlevania music transcriptions for piano, and so far the only place I can find them is at Ichigo's Sheet Music. It's pretty good, has some of the SotN music, as well as CoD, PoR, AoS, OoE but not much of the classic game tunes.

I love the classic ones (especially CV III and Legends), but it seems like nobody has done them so I have to use a software (which screws up the notes) or painstakingly write them down. So, if anyone has done any arrangements or know where to find them, please please let me know!

I can do some arrangements for piano.
I've done Clockwork CV3 as well as Chandeliers CV4.

Do you have any MIDI to sheet music software? Some of them are free and easily found on the Internet! You can go on the vgmusic website (type 'vgmusic' on Google and it'll be the first one) and download MIDIs of Castlevania games you can turn into sheet music! :)

Yes I have tried using some of them, but the one I used (forgot the name) wasn't good at separating the parts so the notes were all over the place. Do you have any good MIDI transcription software to recommend?

I know that Anvil Studio works well, but as I didn't use it for ages, I can't garantee it.

The vgmusic website also has a piano-only MIDI section, if you're interested in.

Castlevania III - Beginning (Piano - Three Staves) (http://www.inverteddungeon.com/jorgefuentes/images3/CV3-%20Beginning%20Piano%20-%203%20Staves.pdf)
Made it a while back for a buddy, and he turned it into something awesome for Piano (but he deleted his Youtube account, argh!)

That looks great! Detailed enough to sound good and yet playable. Beginning is one of my favourites.

Thanks! I'll go check out Anvil Studio and the vgmusic.

You can do this, however sometimes you'll find arrangements that aren't perfect. Wrong notes, rhythms, etc. I had a vgm cover band a while back... I started off using MIDIs for sheet music until I discovered that they were too consistently unreliable (and then I would make my own transcriptions). I think it's best to double check everything with the originals.

There's a good way to do this if you use XP or another version of windows that'll run nsfplay (http://www.pokipoki.org/dsa/index.php?NSFplay) (or nsfplug to use with winamp).
You can open any of the NES + Famicom soundtracks in their NSF format and watch all the parts as they play in 'piano view'. You can also slow the music down in halves:

It's great way to see exactly what's going on in the music. :)

That's an awesome player.
It's also what I used to make my MIDIs, thus ensuring very high compatibility, wh00t! :D
(well, it's 'one' of the tools in my belt anyway).
